METHODIST REFLECTION FOR TODAY

WEDNESDAY 25th MAY, 2022

THEME: REWARD FOR HOSPITALITY

PASSAGE: MATTHEW 10:40-42
( Mat 10:40 He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.
Mat 10:41 He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward.
Mat 10:42 And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold [water] only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.)

Read - Day: James 5 Night: 1 Sam 17-18

God is not unfair, He will not forget the work you did or the love you showed Him through the help you gave and are still giving to your fellow Christians – (Heb 6:10). One good thing every child of God must be proud of is that we have a God who will never forget His promises and He is a rewarder of all that trust in Him.

Being hospitable is allowing God to use you in assisting the next person near you that needs assistance, and God has said, for that reason He will reward you. Hospitability is being pleased to welcome and be friendly to others.

In the world today people are faced with so many challenges and difficulties; and God is looking up to all believers to be His Ambassadors, to help lift up others or wipe away tears from many faces; and give them reasons to smile and be happy again.

Every life you helped to gain a stand provides you an opportunity for Christ to stand for you at all times. The best and easiest way to get God involved in your life, family, ministry, business and career is to be ready at all times to help others; for he who helps receives help. Giving is receiving and givers never lack.

Anytime you care for the needy and even the Prophets you have provided yourself an opportunity to be blessed by God. Proverbs 19:17 says that whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will reward them for what they have done. When you withhold what you should give, you end in poverty but those who give become blessed. It is better to give than to receive, Acts 20:35b states.

Jesus says in (Matthew 25:31-46), those who are hospitable in His name on earth shall end in Paradise, while those who fail to do so shall end in hell.

MEMORY VERSE: Matthew. 10:42 “And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.”

HYMN: MHB 717 (C.M) HELP us to help each other, Lord
1 Help us to help each other, Lord,
each others cross to bear;
let each his friendly aid afford,
and feel anothers care.

2 Up into thee, our living head,
let us in all things grow,
and by thy sacrifice be led
the fruits of love to show.

3 Touched by the lodestone of thy love
let all our hearts agree;
and ever towards each other move,
and ever move towards thee.

4 This is the bond of perfectness,
thy spotless charity.
O let us still, we pray, possess
the mind that was in thee.

PRAYER: My Father, help me to give to the needy and bless me abundantly for every act of hospitality, in Jesus' name. Amen.

*DAILY REFLECTION FOR TODAY*

*SATURDAY 21ST MAY, 2022*

*THEME: STOP WORRYING YOURSELF*

*PASSAGE: MATTHEW 6: 26 – 34*

26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, [shall he] not much more [clothe] you, O ye of little faith?
31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day [is] the evil thereof.)

*Read - Day: Heb 11 Night: 1 Sam 9-11*

*MESSAGE*

Our text today teaches us how to trust in the Almighty God, the Creator and the provider of all things. We should stop worrying about what to eat and what to wear. God has made enough provisions for His Children (the believers) as long as they put their trust in Him (Matt 6:19-34).

To worry is “to keep thinking about unpleasant things that might happen or about problems that you have” According to Oxford online dictionary, it is a show of fear and distrust in the ability of your God and His promises. Worrying is never the solution of any challenge and it blinds your eyes from seeing your ability and the capability of your God to solve the problem or challenges.

Worrying negatively affects your life, health, your dreams and faith. No one in the state of worrying makes or takes good decisions. The major life essentials, which the passage elucidated, includes feeding, shelter and clothing; the daily struggles of man are poised to meet these three essentials of life which, most times, look so difficult and promote worry.

When you stop worrying, your eyes are open to numerous possibilities. It also brings God closer to you and makes you to operate in your full capacity that you never imagined. But when you worry, your bones, face and body look dry.

To stop worrying is a proof that you know your God and understand your place in His plan. If God can properly care for birds and the wild flowers, surely He will take care of you and even more.

We must arise and hold unto the promises of God in Christ Jesus, for He is the only Way out of our struggles. Jesus is the AMEN to God's purposes in our lives. Put your trust in Him because He cares for you.

*MEMORY VERSE:* _Matthew 6:31 “So do not worry, saying, 'what shall we eat?' or 'what shall we drink?' or 'what shall we wear?”_

*HYMN: EMHB 517 (7.7.7.7. and refrain) SIMPLY trusting every day*

1. Simply trusting every day, Trusting through a stormy way; Even when my faith is small, Trusting Jesus, that is all.

_Refrain: Trusting as the moments fly, Trusting as the days go by; Trusting Him whateer befall, Trusting Jesus, that is all._

2. Brightly doth His Spirit shine Into this poor heart of mine; While He leads I cannot fall; Trusting Jesus, that is all.

3. Singing if my way is clear, Praying if the path be drear; If in danger for Him call; Trusting Jesus, that is all.

4. Trusting Him while life shall last, Trusting Him till earth be past; Till within the jasper wall, Trusting Jesus, that is all.

*PRAYER: Heavenly Father, show me your way and lift me from every worry. Enable me to trust You more, in Jesus' name. Amen.*

*WEEKLY ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL/TONIC MANUAL*

*WEEK/TONIC 21*

*TOPIC: KEEP GOD'S COMMANDMENTS*

*TEXT: JOHN 14:23-29*

*OBJECTIVE: To ascertain the mind of believers with regards to obedience*

*INTRODUCTION*
The word commandment could be described as instructions and teachings of God. It teaches us about life, peace, Joy and wisdom as contained therein. Note that keeping God's commandments are meant to help us live a better life in Him as it gives Joy to our heart and light to our eyes.

The commandments of God includes the decalogue (Exodus 20:1-17) and several other instructions in the holy scripture. This was summarized by our Lord Jesus Christ in (Matthew 5:17-20, 43- 48), which was based on his love towards humanity. Apparently, some have become disobedient to keeping of this Holy instructions and thus require God's enabling Grace to fulfill this mandate.

*POINTS FOR CONVERSATION*
1. Discuss the implications of disobeying Gods commandments as children of God (John 14:23-24, Romans 1: 24-32)

2. As believer, what are your roles towards God and fellow human as summarized by the Lord Jesus Christ? (Exodus 20:1-17, Matthew 5:17-26).

3. Mention some of the benefits of keeping God's commandments. (John 14:21, Genesis 39: 21-23, John 15:12-15)

*CONCLUSION*
The word of God is all sufficient and able to transform our soul. Hence, when God's commandments are kept as required, it helps us to abide in His Love and partake of the Joy of the Lord. Ask for His Grace to keep this commandments always and abide in His Love.

*MEMORYVERSE:* _John 14: 23 “Jesus answered and said to him, "if anyone loves Me, he will keep My word, and My Father will love him, and We will come to him
and make Our home with him"_

*ACTION POINT: Take bold steps to obey the Lord's commandments.*
