I've always made the mistake trying to assume that everyone around could picture the same image I have right in my mind. I've had a lot issues with people based on this, where they either misunderstood me or I misunderstood them.
A friend of mine wanted to help me get an assignment done. He offered all the answers to me. I felt so numb, by how he said that to me. He said, "Don't bother your head trying, I'll send every answer to you". I felt so bad, even though I should ordinarily have been happy for someone saving me some stress. I found out a lot of persons other than me, would have highly appreciated that kind gesture. My friend had no bad intention, other than just to assist his friend in need. But, I saw him in a different light afterwards. I only realized this, after I pondered on how I responded to his gesture. I can be quite reflective, at times.
I believe this is not just about me. I've learnt what we yell at others for, perhaps we see as wrong, could be borne out of a good heart, kind gestures towards us. I'm yet to wrap my head around it, because I haven't seen any optical theory to back it up. But, the truth is, we don't see things as they really are; but we see things as we are.
Don't take my word for it. You can take that of Anais Nin's. She said, "We do not see things the way they are; we see things the way we are".
A lot of persons have an improper perspective of themselves because of their impaired vision. And, this spills over to others, leading to a lot of problems resulting to broken relationships and marriages. It has led to wrong assumptions and misunderstanding.
To have a better view of the world around us, we need to allow a mental shift in our perspective. We need to deal with ourselves. Hence, our view of others and the world at large revolutionizes.
Build yourself.
Change your perspective...
