THE SERMON

Speaker: Thomas N. Gbarato
Text: 1 Peter 4:12–19
Theme: Godly Suffering Brings Glory and Victory

Introduction

The Christian journey is not always smooth and easy. At times, believers pass through trials, persecutions, hardships, and painful experiences because of their faith in Christ. Apostle Peter encouraged the church not to see suffering for Christ as a strange thing, but as part of the Christian calling. Godly suffering is never in vain; it produces spiritual growth, divine glory, victory, and eternal reward.

Main Points

1. Godly Suffering Tests and Purifies Believers

Text: 1 Peter 4:12

Peter warned believers not to be surprised by fiery trials. God allows challenges to test our faith and purify our character. Just as gold is refined through fire, believers are refined through trials.

Lessons:

* Trials strengthen our faith.
* Suffering builds spiritual maturity.
* God uses difficult moments to prepare us for greater purpose.

2. Godly Suffering Makes Us Partakers of Christ’s Glory

Text: 1 Peter 4:13

When believers suffer for righteousness, they share in the sufferings of Christ. Such suffering leads to joy and glory when Christ is revealed.

Lessons:

* There is honor in suffering for Christ.
* Temporary pain produces eternal glory.
* God rewards faithful endurance.

3. Godly Suffering Attracts the Presence and Spirit of God

Text: 1 Peter 4:14

Peter declared that when believers are reproached for the name of Christ, the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon them.

Lessons:

* God never abandons His children in suffering.
* The Holy Spirit gives strength during persecution.
* Divine presence becomes more evident in difficult seasons.

4. Believers Must Not Suffer for Evil Doing

Text: 1 Peter 4:15

Not every suffering is godly suffering. Christians should avoid suffering that comes as a result of sin, wrongdoing, or disobedience.

Lessons:

* Christians must live upright lives.
* Our conduct should glorify God.
* There is no reward for suffering caused by wrongdoing.

5. Godly Suffering Brings Glory to God

Text: 1 Peter 4:16

A believer should never be ashamed to suffer as a Christian, but should glorify God through it.

Lessons:

* Christian suffering becomes a testimony.
* Our endurance can inspire others.
* God is glorified when believers remain faithful.

6. Commit Yourself to God During Suffering

Text: 1 Peter 4:19

Peter encouraged believers to commit their souls to God while continuing in well doing.

Lessons:

* Trust God even in difficult times.
* Remain faithful and steadfast.
* God is a faithful Creator who never fails His people.

Conclusion

Godly suffering is not a sign of God’s absence but often a pathway to spiritual growth, divine glory, and eternal reward. Every believer should remain steadfast, faithful, and committed to God during trials. In every season of suffering, God’s grace is sufficient, and victory is certain for those who endure faithfully.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word. Give us the grace to endure every trial and suffering that comes our way as Christians. Help us to remain faithful, steadfast, and committed to You at all times. Let every challenge in our lives produce glory, victory, and spiritual growth. Strengthen us by Your Spirit and help us never to be ashamed of standing for Christ. In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen.

THE SERMON

SPEAKER: Rt. Rev. Thomas N. Gbarato
TEXT: 1 Peter 1:17–25
THEME: God’s Word is Eternal

SERMON TITLE:

“The Enduring Power of God’s Word”

INTRODUCTION

Beloved, in a world where everything seems temporary wealth fades, beauty diminishes, and human systems fail; there is one thing that remains constant and unchanging: the Word of God. Today’s message reminds us that while life itself is fragile and fleeting, God’s Word stands forever.

The Apostle Peter speaks to believers, urging them to live in reverence, knowing they were redeemed not with perishable things, but by the precious blood of Christ. He concludes with a powerful truth: “The word of the Lord endures forever.”

1. THE TEMPORARY NATURE OF HUMAN LIFE (v. 17–19, 24)

Peter compares human life to grass and flowers here today, gone tomorrow. This reminds us:

* Life is short and unpredictable
* Earthly achievements are temporary
* Human strength and beauty will fade

Yet many people live as though this world is permanent. This passage calls us to live with eternity in view, not just temporary satisfaction.

2. THE PRECIOUS AND ETERNAL REDEMPTION (v. 18–21)

We were not redeemed with corruptible things like silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ.

* Material things perish
* God’s salvation is eternal
* Christ’s sacrifice has lasting value

This redemption gives us a living hope one that is not affected by time, circumstances, or human limitations.

3. THE PURIFYING POWER OF THE WORD (v. 22–23)

Peter emphasizes that believers are born again through the Word of God.

* The Word transforms lives
* It purifies our hearts
* It produces sincere love among believers

God’s Word is not just information—it is life-giving and life-changing.

4. THE ETERNAL NATURE OF GOD’S WORD (v. 23–25)

The central theme: “But the word of the Lord endures forever.”

* God’s Word does not expire
* It remains relevant in every generation
* It cannot be destroyed or altered

Empires have risen and fallen, but God’s Word still stands. Trends change, cultures shift, but the truth of God remains constant.

5. OUR RESPONSE TO GOD’S ETERNAL WORD

Since God’s Word is eternal, how should we respond?

* Live by it daily; not occasionally
* Trust it completely; even when circumstances disagree
* Share it boldly; it is the good news that saves
* Obey it faithfully not just hearing, but doing

CONCLUSION

Brethren, everything around us may change, but God’s Word remains the same. Your job may change, your situation may change, even your strength may fail but the Word of God will never fail.

Let us anchor our lives on this eternal truth, build our faith upon it, and pass it on to the next generation.

CLOSING PRAYER

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your eternal Word. Help us to trust it, live by it, and stand firmly on it. Let Your Word transform our lives and guide our steps daily. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

THE SERMON

Sermon Title: God Has Given Us a Living Hope
Speaker: Rev. Alphonso Harris
Text: 1 Peter 1:3–5

Introduction
Life is full of uncertainties, trials, and moments that can shake our faith. Yet, in the midst of it all, God has not left us empty; He has given us something powerful, something unshakable: a living hope. This hope is not based on circumstances, but on the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

1. The Source of Our Living Hope (v.3)
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ… who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”

Our hope is living because Jesus is alive.
• It is not dead hope, like wishful thinking.
• It is not temporary hope, like worldly expectations.

It is rooted in the finished work of Christ. Because He rose, our hope is alive and active.

2. The Inheritance of Our Hope (v.4)
“…to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you.”

God’s promise to us is eternal.
• Incorruptible – cannot be destroyed
• Undefiled – pure and holy
• Unfading – never loses value

Unlike earthly possessions, this inheritance is secure and everlasting.

3. The Security of Our Hope (v.5)
“…who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.”

Our hope is not dependent on our strength but on God’s power.
Even when we feel weak, God is keeping us.
Even when we stumble, His hand still holds us.

Conclusion
Our hope is not dead; it is alive!
Because Jesus lives:
• Our future is secure
• Our faith has meaning
• Our joy is complete

No matter what you are going through today, hold on to this truth:
God has given you a living hope.

Closing Charge
Let your life reflect this hope.
Let your faith stand firm in trials.
And let your heart rejoice, knowing that your hope in Christ will never fail.
