AZIGBO CATHOLIC COMMUNITY HOLDS ONE-MONTH MIND MASS FOR LATE Br. PAULINUS UNEGBU, BSS
St. Davidโs Parish Azigbo, in collaboration with the Azigbo Catholic Community, on Saturday, 14th March 2026, held a one-month mind Mass in honour of Late Rev. Br. Paulinus Mmaduabuchukwu Unegbu, BSS, who died in the early hours of 14th February 2026. The solemn celebration began with the Holy Mass presided over by Rev. Fr. Chima Ocho, as members of the Church gathered to pray for the peaceful repose of his soul.
The event drew a large gathering of priests, religious sisters, members of the Congregation of the Brothers of Saint Stephen, led by their Superior General, Br. Charles Okeke, BSS, as well as members of the Azigbo Catholic Community, family members, friends and well-wishers who came to honour the memory of the late religious brother.
Rev. Fr. Benneth Okoye, in his homily, spoke warmly about the life Br. Paulinus lived. He described him as a religious who was content with his life and vocation, living in simplicity and devotion. He shared that the death of Br. Paulinus affected him deeply because he was his godparent. According to him, Br. Paulinus always checked on him during his days as a seminarian, offering advice, encouragement and fatherly support whenever he needed it. Fr. Benito expressed his firm hope in the resurrection, saying he believes that Br. Paulinus is now in a better place with the Lord.
Speaking towards the end of the Mass, the Superior General, Br. Charles Okeke, BSS, thanked the Unegbu family for giving the Church such a gentle and committed soul. He encouraged them not to lose heart over his passing, noting that Br. Paulinus lived a life worthy of his calling as a religious brother who faithfully embraced the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity and obedience. He also recalled that Br. Paulinus had a deep love for the Blessed Virgin Mary, often praying the Rosary in hundreds of decades, a devotion that marked much of his spiritual life.
After the Mass, activities moved to the parish compound where friends, members of the Azigbo Vocation Association, and members of the Congregation of the Brothers of Saint Stephen paid condolence visits to the Unegbu family. Many present spoke quietly about the kind of man Br. Paulinus was. A religious known for his simplicity, calm spirit, and dedication to his vocation. For those who gathered, it was also a time to remember the life he lived and the example he left behind.
May the Lord grant him eternal rest and let perpetual light shine upon him. ๐๏ธ๐.
