The church of Christ, Awada, is an evangelistic congregation.
I love how the youth use their voice to invite the street to listen to the truth

The men and women in their numbers always present to participate in reaching out to the world.

This congregation has motivated me to fulfill my daily ministry of evangelism even without words because everyone looks out for the time of evangelism.

On Sunday we evangelized Ntueke Street, Awada on the topic: Good Intentioned Mistakes.

Nadab and Abihu, Uzzah and king Saul were examples of people who had good intentions towards God but were not spared for violating God's command.

Since we started using this sound equipment donated by the sisters for Evangelism, I pray with every word of God that I preach that they'll continue to enjoy more of God's blessings and favours for giving the gospel a loud and clear voice.

Today, on my personal daily morning cry, I spoke on, "The Broad and Narrow way" - Matthew. 7:13-14

The joy it brings to know that I'm an unworthy servant given such a glorious mandate to speak on behalf of my Master is unquantifiable.

Thank you COC Awada for your great support, I am truly blessed to be your preacher!

🕊️ What Does the Bible Actually Say About Lent and Fasting?

A Quick Caveat: This post isn't intended to criticize or condemn anyone’s personal faith. Instead, it’s an invitation to do what the Bereans did: subject every religious practice to the ultimate standard of Biblical truth.

📜 The Origin vs. The Scripture

First, we have to be honest with the text: The word "Lent" is found nowhere in the Bible. It is a tradition that developed centuries after the Apostles.

However, the elements of Lent—specifically ashes and fasting—do have deep biblical roots. We see the practice of pouring ashes as a sign of mourning, repentance, and humility in several passages:

Job 42:6: Job repents in "dust and ashes."

Daniel 9:3: Daniel seeks God with "fasting, sackcloth, and ashes."

Esther 4:1: Mordecai puts on sackcloth and ashes upon hearing devastating news.

🔍 What is the Significance?

Biblically, these practices were meant to represent:

1. Inward Brokenness: An outward sign of an internal grief over sin.

2. Humility: Acknowledging our frailty and dependence on God.

3. Focus: Fasting clears the "noise" of physical desires to prioritize spiritual communion.

⚠️ The New Testament Warning

This is where we must look closely at the teachings of Jesus. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus gives a stern warning against "performative" faith:

> "Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them... When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting." — Matthew 6:1, 16

⚖️ The Tension: Harmonizing Tradition with Truth

If Jesus tells us to wash our faces and keep our fasting private so that only the Father sees, we have to ask: **Does a public display of ashes or a corporate, scheduled fast align with His instructions?

For many, Lent has become a "public announcement" of righteousness—the very thing Jesus cautioned against. When a spiritual discipline becomes a mandatory calendar event rather than a private heart response, we risk moving from grace into legalism.

How do we harmonize this? True biblical fasting isn't about the season on the calendar, but the condition of the heart. If our "Lent" is done to be seen by men, we’ve already received our reward in full.

I’d love to hear your thoughts! How do you balance church tradition with the specific instructions Jesus gave in Matthew 6? Let’s discuss below. 👇

đź’– Building a Foundation for a Fulfilling Marriage

The journey of marriage is a profound commitment that requires dedication, understanding, and the consistent application of certain principles to achieve a peaceful and joyful partnership. There are no shortcuts to building a lasting and beautiful relationship.

🌱 The Power of Humility and Respect
A strong marriage is not built on competition, but on collaborative partnership.

🌻Cultivating Humility
In any relationship, pride often breeds competition, which can be detrimental to unity. Focusing on mutual respect and humility allows both partners to work together rather than against each other.

🌟The Strength of Respect
Respect is one of the most powerful keys to unlocking a deeper, more committed connection. When a man feels respected, and a woman feels cherished, the foundation of the relationship is strengthened.

đź’Ť Expressing Devotion
The way partners choose to express their respect and devotion is a personal choice, often guided by culture, faith, or individual preference.

🗣️The Act of Service
If a gesture, such as kneeling, is a genuine and humble expression of deep respect and love that strengthens the bond between partners, it is an honorable commitment. As the saying goes, often to be truly lifted up in life, one must first choose the path of humility.

❣️Focus on the Heart
When a partner's actions—whether they involve physical gestures or daily acts of service—stem from a place of genuine love and profound respect, these actions become powerful tools for building a happy home.

đź’ˇ Finding Common Ground
While modern perspectives on gender roles are diverse, many successful marriages, particularly those anchored in faith, emphasize the importance of distinct yet complementary roles built on shared dedication to the relationship. Ultimately, the successful couple is the one that chooses mutual deference, love, and respect in their pursuit of shared happiness.

🙏In Summary
A thriving marriage is characterized by humility, mutual respect, and a shared dedication to the well-being of the partner. Focus on these principles, and your relationship is set for a lifetime of rewards.
