In his closing prayer, the Bishop prayed:
“May God help us so that our light will shine forth, and darkness will not overcome it. May we do the will of God at all times through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Amen.

2026 Clergy & Church Teachers’ Wives Retreat Opens at Diocesan Church Centre, Onitsha

In the evening hours of the day, the Chief Shepherd of the Diocese, The Rt. Rev. Dr. Owen Chiedozie Nwokolo (JP, FITH), officiated the opening service for the 2026 Clergy and Church Teachers’ Wives Retreat at the Diocesan Church Centre, Onitsha.

Theme: Upholding the Dignity of Your Calling

Taking his text from Titus 2:3-5, the Diocesan reminded the clergy wives that they are called to a sacred order. It is a dignified position, and it is an honour to find yourselves in ministry as priest wives. As “Ochiora”, you are to preserve the physical and spiritual stability of your homes so as to uphold the credibility of God’s altar.

The Bishop stressed that the role of a priest’s wife is to uphold the dignity and credibility of the altar of praise. He urged them to discharge their responsibilities faithfully and to avoid anything that would bring reproach to the Church. Above all, he charged them to maintain the ornament of holiness and to avoid actions and attitudes that could bring discord into their homes.

On appearance and conduct, the clergy wives were encouraged to dress in a manner that reflects purity, decency, and godliness. The Bishop also appealed to them to stay away from anything that could cause scandal in the Church and society. “Guard your tongues against careless speech, false accusations, and slander. Let your words be guided by truth. Above all, learn to keep Church secrets as a priest’s wife,” the Bishop cautioned.

He further urged the women to ensure peace in their homes, to encourage their husbands in prayer, and to be lavish with care, support, and love. Bishop Nwokolo warned against unhealthy competition and entreated them to be contented with what they have. “As a clergy wife, do not look down on younger women in the ministry. Learn to honour one another,” he advised.

We were saved and redeemed by the grace of God. His Lordship, The Rt. Rev. Dr. Owen Chiedozie Nwokolo(JP) charged the newly confirmed and admitted candidates today at St. Christopher’s Anglican Church, Odoakpu, Onitsha, (Onitsha Archdeaconry).

The Diocesan reminded the admitted candidates to live in the power of the Holy Spirit, which enables us to walk in the way of the Lord and bear good fruit for Him. He also charged the Confirmation candidates that, having received the Holy Spirit, they should live the new life in Christ and be rooted in Him alone.

During the service, the Bishop laid the foundation stone of the Vicar’s house and prayed that God Almighty would help His people to live in the sufficiency of His grace, to do His will, and to represent Christ in all they do, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
