Not what happens to you but how you respond that matters

One author said, "life is 10% of what happens to you, your response is 90%." Things must happen to you in life. You are not exempted from mishaps and adversities. Develop a good attitude in handling adversities.

Don't respond negatively to adversities. You can learn from them. They can be a training ground. They can be stepping stones.

You can learn from Joseph the dreamer in the Bible. In Genesis 37, he is hated by his brothers. They sold him into slavery. In Egypt Potiphar 's wife lies against him. He is thrown into prison. But in all, he never attacks those who are against him. He never utters an evil word. He is positive minded. He forgives his brothers. He brings his family to Egypt and cares for them. He does not allow what happens to him to make him develop an abnormal character. He stays in charge.

The God of favour will smile on him. Doors and opportunities will open for him. Your opportunity is also coming. Be positive in all things.

Strengthen your relationship with your creator

Genesis 1:1: "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth"

John 1:3: "Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made"

Psalm 139:14: "I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made"

We are created beings. We are not products of accident or luck. You are created purposeful and wonderful. The creator is called various names such as God, Oghene, the supreme being, the almighty, Okudumare, etc.

Whatever name you call him, we all need the God-factor in our lives. You came from a source. It is important to strengthen your relationship with that source.

The Godpower will enable you achieve more in life. There is a higher power above you. Acknowledge this power and source. Pray to your God. Worship your God. Ask God for help. God will see you through.

Potentiality Action Key: Relate to your God daily.

GIVE AN EXAMPLE OF FAITH.

In our Gospel reading, Elizabeth praises the faith of Mary: “And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfilment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.” Elizabeth said this in obvious reference to her husband who doubted the Angel and was struck dumb. Mary is a model of faith for all who profess faith and discipleship of Jesus.

In His teaching, Jesus called as brother and sister and mother all who hear the word of God and keep it (Matt. 12:46-50). A woman praised Jesus saying: “Blessed the woman that bore you and the breasts that fed you.” The response of Jesus was: “More blessed still are those who hear the word of God and keep it.” (Luke 11:27-28). If there is anyone who heard the word of God and kept it, it was Mary, the Mother of Jesus. Her YES at the Annunciation was: “You see before you the Lord’s servant, let it happen to me as you have said.” (Luke 1:38). Hers was a total self-giving. She remained true to this till the end of her life.

In the difficult times in which we live, giving an example of faith is very encouraging to those around us.

Come Lord Jesus.

“She listened to us and the Lord opened her heart to accept what Paul was saying” (Acts 16:14). Lord, open our hearts to accept Your word. Amen.

Happy Sunday.

THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTIANITY AND THE SOCIO-SPIRITUAL TRANSFORMATION (ANIMATION) OF THE WORLD IN THE LIGHT OF GAUDIUM ET SPES (GS) 43
Mark Omorovie Ikeke, PhD
Keywords: Christianity, Christ, social justice, socio-spiritual transformation, animation, the world, Gaudium et Spes.
Abstract
Despite the many scientific and technological advancements of humanity especially in the modern age, the world is still filled with anxieties, pains, turmoil, and miseries. The scientific and technological advancements include biotechnological interventions, reproductive technologies, the rise of artificial intelligence, the growth and rapid increase in information technology, agricultural advancement, etc. While not all that have been invented in the above domains are ethically acceptable, there is hope in the good aspects of the inventions. Human history and civilization should be guided by the spirit of God, the supreme being who created the world and loves the world. The role of the Church emanating from God and Christ is to be a pastor and moral guide to humanity as God leads people to heaven. This paper argues that the world needs to be transformed, animated, and renewed with the spirit of Christ and Christianity. The Catholic Church's document: Gaudium et Spes(Pastoral Constitution of the Church in the Modern World) provides a guide on this. The paper uses critical analytic and hermeneutic methods to unravel the issues at stake. The paper finds that the Church has a role to play in the earthly city (the world). The paper concludes that when the Church animates the world with the spirit of Christianity the world becomes a better earthly city and place.

Prayer is an aspiration of the heart, it is a simple glance directed to heaven, it is a cry of gratitude and love in the midst of trail as well as joy; finally, it is something great, supernatural, which expands my soul and unites me to Jesus. ~ St.Therese of Lisieux

He was an avid student, a thorough scholar, a prodigious letter-writer and a consultant to monk, bishop, and pope. Saint Augustine said of him, “What Jerome is ignorant of, no mortal has ever known.” Saint Jerome is particularly important for having made a translation of the Bible which came to be called the Vulgate.
HAPPY FEAST OF ST JEROME.
