His Lordship, The Rt. Rev. Dr. Owen Chiedozie Nwokolo, during this evening’s Episcopal Baptism service at Calvary Chapel, Bishopscourt, reminded parents and godparents to nurture their children to grow in the way k in of the Lord.

Drawing from 1 Peter 2:2, he urged them to ensure that, like newborn infants who long for their mother’s milk for physical growth, as Adult we should desire the spiritual milk for our growth in salvation, they themselves should also desire the spiritual milk of God’s word so that they may grow in faith.

He further encouraged them to nurture the children in love, guard them from corrupt communication, and not withhold the rod of correction when necessary. In doing so, they would raise godly children who walk in the path of righteousness and become a blessing to their generation and to society at large.

In his closing prayer, the Bishop prayed that these infants who have been baptized would continually grow up as children who love and serve the Lord all the days of their lives, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Homily by Rt. Rev. Dr. Owen Chiedozie Nwokolo.

Topic: Take Heed to Yourself

Text: Acts 20:28

As we reflect on the Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ to heaven, we are reminded of a pivotal matter: to watch and take heed to ourselves. We must watch our actions and our words, because of the world we live in. Therefore, we must be careful and examine our inward life.

As believers, we are called to abide in God’s word. In heaven there is absolute order, and God wants us to reflect that order in our lives. We must pursue holiness and pray for His grace to live for Him at all times.

We must pay attention to our character, for it is our daily actions that reveal who we truly are. “Blessed are the pure in heart” — when we speak, let it be as Christians, and when we are angry, let us respond in a Christlike way. We must also uphold integrity and honesty, maintaining sexual purity in all our dealings.

Let us remember to keep watch over ourselves and guard our salvation in this race of faith. It is a pure heart and godly character that set us apart. We must look inward and align our behavior with God’s word.

Prayers: Loving Father, You love us more than we love ourselves, and You do not want us to be deceived by anything. As You have called us again to pay attention to ourselves and to the things of our salvation, may we never neglect our personal walk with You, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Today, His Lordship, The Rt. Rev. Owen Chiedozie Nwokolo, awarded 58 students from our Diocesan-owned and managed schools who performed well in the 2026 UTME results from 270 above at Calvary Chapel, Bishopscourt Onitsha. They received Episcopal Educational Merit Award certificates, cash gifts, and a book titled The Lord’s Prayer, written by the Bishop.

In his opening remarks, the Diocesan said the award is not just to celebrate high scores, but to recognize the resilience behind those achievements. True excellence must never be separated from dignity, godly character, discipline, moral foundation, and obedience. While we celebrate academic performance, we also celebrate morally upright, cultured people who will reject all forms of social vices.

The Bishop encouraged the students to carry these three principles as they advance in their education and future careers: pursue excellence relentlessly, persevere faithfully, and depend on God.

The Diocesan Education Secretary thanked His Lordship for providing this opportunity to encourage these young people and to honor their unwavering efforts. He also thanked all school principals, the Diocesan Education Board, and the parents for their support, and prayed that God Almighty would bless and reward their labor.

In Christ Jesus, baptism unites us with His death and brings us into new life (Rom. 6:3).

We die to sin and publicly declare our faith and belief in Jesus Christ.
May we be renewed daily in this new life in Christ.
