WEEK EIGHT, LESSON EIGHT (24th MAY, 2026) SECOND QUARTER.
Topic: THE BRIDE AND BRIDEGROOM MEET.
Text: Gen 24:61-67
Memory verse: “And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she lighted off the camel"(Gen 24:64).

Introduction
Rebekah had agreed to go with the servant of Abraham to the land of Cannan to meet her husband and her parents have permitted her to go. They sent her away with blessing. Eliezer took Rebekah to meet the bridegroom. (Verse 24:59-61)

Explanation of the Lesson

“And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the eventide: and he lifted up his eyes, and saw, and behold, the camels were coming”(verse 63). Isaac was a man of meditation; he left the town where there may be noise and went to the field in a solitary place to meditate in the evening. We Children of God we must be observing our quiet time always. Quiet time is a time set aside to pray, read the bible and meditate on God’s word. It is good to go to a solitary place, may be in the farm or any quiet place; preferably in the middle of the night when the environment is quiet to commune with God and meditate. (Psalm 1:2; 77:12; 119:15,27,48,97,148; 143:5).
As soon as Rebekah set her eyes on Isaac, the magnetic force of love came into action.(verse 6). She asked Eliezer “...what man is this that walketh in the field to meet us...” When a child of God prays and knows God’s will for him or her in marriage, such marriage is always characterized with genue love. Bachelors and Spinsters, please pray very well before you choose. You will not marry wrongly in Jesus name (Amen)
When Rebekah discovered that the man coming is her husband to be, she took a vail and cover her face. This shows the act of chastity. She was a well trained damsel (verse 65). Unlike the girls of nowadays that have no shame; they can dress markedly in the name of fashion and civilisation; children of God must be different from the worldly ladies.
The servant gave the report of his journey to Isaac his master’s son. Eliezer was a qualified servant, who is worthy of emulation. He was successful in his duty. We servants of God, are we qualified in our duties and responsibilities to the Lord and ministry? (verse 66).
Let the children and adults know that following the Lord’s leading always results to success.

‎To God be the glory for a successful mission of the servant of Abraham who went to get a wife for Isaac. Last week we talked about the importance of being lead; what brings joy to being lead by God is obedience. When we are obedient to the leading of God, the end result is joy and blessing with rest of mind. Let us be obedient to God’s leading so that we may have joy at last.

‎𝙀𝙓𝙋𝙇𝘼𝙉𝘼𝙏𝙄𝙊𝙉 𝙊𝙉 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙇𝙀𝙎𝙎𝙊𝙉
‎In verse 49, Abraham’s servant told the household of Rebekah that: “And now if ye will deal kindly and truly with my master, tell me and if not, tell me; that I may turn to the right hand or to the left". Because God had already perfected this mission, hear what they said in reply: “...we cannot speak unto thee bad or good. Behold Rebekah is before thee, take her and go, and let her be thy master's son’s wife, as the Lord hath spoken”(verse 50-51)

‎Verse 52 says: “And it came to pass, that, when Abraham’s servant heard their words, he worshipped the Lord, bowing himself to the earth". This servant had cause to thank God because he waited on God’s leading. If we too can permit the Spirit of God to lead us without leaning on our mental knowledge, we shall have cause to glorify God.
‎To seal up the matter as a confirmation that Rebekah has been given to Isaac as a wife, Eliezer took jewels of silver and jewels of gold and raiment (clothes) and gave them to Rebekah. He also gave valuable gifts to her mother and her brothers.(verse 53). They ate and drank and rejoiced together. The heart of Rebekah was already drawn to her husband. She was asked, “will you go with this man? And she said, I will go"(verse 58). You follower of Jesus Christ, is your heart drawn to your master the bridegroom of the church? (Rev 19:5-7). Those things you are holding in your hands, can they really allow you to meet with your bridegroom on that day?(Rev 16:15; 21:8; 20:15).
