"STEPHEN-THE FIRST CHRISTIAN MARTYR"

TEXT:

ACTS 6:1-15; 7:1-60

CENTRAL THOUGHT:

ABSOLUTE FAITH AND TRUST IN GOD IS THE

ANTIDOTE TO ALL CHALLENGES OF LIFE

INTRODUCTION:

Stephen was one of the disciples of the Lord

Jesus. He was very zealous in the preaching of

the gospel after the death and the resurrection

of Jesus Christ. He was one of the seven

deacons selected by the brethren to handle the

administration of their daily needs, when there

was a report that some of the widows among

the Grecians were been neglected in the

distribution of foodamong the brethren in the

early church.

Stephen was a man full of faith and filled with

the Holy Spirit. He did great exploit with signs

and wonders in the preaching of the gospel in

the synagogue of Freedmen, (Cyrenians,

Alexandrians, Cilicia and Asia) who disputed

with him. They were not able to resist the

wisdom and the spirit by which he spoke, yet

gang up against him, arrested him and handed

him to the Elders and the scribes. They accused

him of speaking blasphemous words against

Moses and the Law, saying that Jesus of

Nazareth would destroy the synagogue and

change the customs which Moses delivered to

them. For this he was stoned to feath, and so

became the first Christian martyred for his faith. The objectives of this study are to: 1. Know the qualities of a deacon and assess the performance of Stephen 2. Examine how the life of Stephen should challenge hose who occupy such office in the church 3. Know the accusations against Stephen and the essence of his defence before the council and 4. Know how Stephen portrayed Christlikeness towards his persecutors

SATURDAY SEP. 17TH, 2022
WORSHIPING THE FATHER THROUGH JESUS
Colossians 3:17 (GNB, AMPC), John 4:23a
Everything you do or say, then, should be done in the name of the Lord Jesus, as you give thanks through him to God the Father. *And whatever you do […] in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus and in [dependence upon] His Person, giving praise to God the Father through Him.*But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth…
We saw in our study yesterday, that God's desire is for all men to worship Him as Father and we can only do this based on the revelation of His character as revealed by Jesus and based on the things He has done for us through Jesus. In The Passion Translation, our first text above says, “Let every activity of your lives and every word that comes from your lips be drenched with the beauty of our Lord Jesus, the Anointed One. And bring your constant praise to God the Father because of what Christ has done for you!”
One major thing Jesus came to do was to make God a Father to us just as God is a Father to Him, (John 20:17). Jesus wants us to know that God the Father loves us just as He loves Him, (John 17:23, John 16:27). There are various ways we can worship God as Father. In worshipping God as Father, Paul described God as the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, (Rom.15:6, 2Cor.1:3, 2Cor.11:31, Eph.1:3, Eph.3:14, Col.1:3). Peter also worshipped God as the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, (1Pet.1:3).
Paul also worshipped God as the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort, (2Cor.1:3), the Father of glory, (Eph.1:17). James worshipped God as the Father of lights with whom there is no variableness, nor shadow of turning, (James 1:17).
Action Point:
Call God your Father and thank Him for being your Father. Worship Him as Father as you are led by the Spirit.

*SUNDAY SEP. 11TH, 2022*

*MADE FOR SIGNS AND WONDERS*

*Isaiah 8:18 (KJV, GNB), Mark 16:17*

*Behold, I and the children whom the LORD hath given me are for signs and for wonders.... *Here I am with the children the LORD has given me. The LORD Almighty, whose throne is on Mount Zion, has sent us as living messages to the people of Israel. *And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;*

As a child of God, your life is not designed to be ordinary. Your life is not like that of everybody else around you. No. You are different and your life has been designed to be a sign and a wonder to many. You have a higher life. The life you have in you is the supernatural life of God and because of this God-kind of life in you, the things that are impossible with men are possible with you. By your faith in Jesus, you are born of God and your life is full of God's power, (John 1:12-13).

As a sign and wonder, your life is designed to make people wonder and be amazed at the manifestation of God's life and power in and through you and this is to point and attract people to God, just like a signboard does. As people wondered at the life of Jesus (Matt. 8:27), at the life of Paul (Acts 28:3-6) and wondered at the life of my husband, Archbishop Benson Idahosa, people are going to wonder at your life.

As you move out preaching the Gospel and manifesting the life and power of God, great signs and miracles will follow you. You will not look for miracles, miracles will follow you abundantly. Psalms 71:7 says, "I am as a wonder unto many; but thou art my strong refuge." Because you have made Christ your refuge and dwelling place, His glory and power will continually manifest in your life.

*Faith Declaration:* I have the supernatural life and power of God. My life is not ordinary. I am made for signs and wonders.

GRACE"

TEXT

Titus 2:11-14; Gal 2:21; Rom 6:1-2, 2 Cor 6:1-2

Heb 6:4-6

CENTRAL THOUGHT

No one can claim to have God's grace without

divine transformation

INTRODUCTION:

Like we have seen in our previous lesson, grace

is not a license to live in sin. No one can claim

to have God's grace without divine

transformation. Therefore, those who think they can live the way they wish and continue with their licentious, promiscuous and fraudulent lifestyles on the unfounded belief that grace abounds, deceive themselves. For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men. Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world Titus 2:11-12 God's grace in a beleiver's life produces a dramatic change and makes him a new creature in Christ. This transformation will be visible for everyone to see. LESSON OBJECTIVES: The objectives of this study are to:

1. Understand the place of grace in our walk

with God

2. Know what it means to frustrate the grace of

God if possible

3. Learn from the examples of biblical

characters

4. Highlight the consequences of frustrating the grace of God 5. Highlight the benefits of not frustrating the grace of God BIBLE TRUTH: QUESTION 1. WHAT IS THE PLACE OF GRACE IN A

BELIEVER'S LIFE? (Tit 2:11-15; Eph 2:8-9; Rom

6:23, 1Pt 3:18? Jn 3:16; Heb 4:15-16; 1Pt 4:10)

Without the grace of God, we would still be

separated from Him, condemned to die for our

sins. This is the first major work of grace in our

lives.

Hence a ransom was needed (one we couldn't

pay) to buy us put from suffering God's

judgement for sin, which is death, and Jesus, the

Son of God took our place.

Being saved does not immediately translate us

to heaven physically. We are still in a world that

hates God and is full of temptations

TOPIC:

GOD'S GRACE AND HIS PRINCIPLES

TEXT:

Titus 2:11-14; Gal 2:21; Rom 6:1-2

CENTRAL THOUGHT:

God's grace teaches us to overcome sin and

temptation.

INTRODUCTION:

A clear understanding of God's grace shows

that man can live to please God whereas the

principles of God is God's nature made

manifest. His grace is the enabling strength to

walk in His principles. One does not make the

other invalid. God's word says the soul that sins

will die but it also say that grace and truth come

through His Son Jesus Christ.

It is by the shedding of His incorruptible blood

that man receives salvation for soul. Salvation is

a free gift from God but anyone that refuses will

face the eternal death. 1 John 5:12 "He that hath

the Son hath life; [and] he that hath not the Son

of God hath not life."

LESSON OBJECTIVES:

The objectives of this study are to:

1. Explain what God's grace means

2. Identify the principles of Christian living

3. Know whether God's grace nullifies His

principles

4. Highlights some wrong belief about the

grace of God

5. Know what annuls the grace of God in a

believer's life

BIBLE TRUTH:

QUESTION 1.

(A). WHAT IS GOD'S GRACE?

God's grace is His unmerited Favour. Grace

means that God showers favour and blessings

who do not in any way deserve or earn it. They

deserve His judgement and wrath; but He shows

them Favour. It can also be seen as the

spontaneous divine gift given to sinners for

their soul's salvation.

In the scriptures, the term grace most often

refers to the divine disposition and power to

bless, bestow gifts, or otherwise act favourably

towards man. The Bible Dictionary puts it this

way: Theain idea of the word grace is Divine

means of help or strength. Grace is an enabling

power". It enables the recipient to do and to be

what he/she cannot do and cannot be if left to

his/her own means.

Grace is inten

*Psa. 16:5-6 (NLT), Deuteronomy 29:5, Psa.

138:8 (NKJV)*

*LORD, you alone are my inheritance, my cup of blessing. You guard all that is mine. The land you have given me is a pleasant land. What a wonderful inheritance! *For forty years I led you through the wilderness, yet your clothes and sandals did not wear out. *The LORD will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy, O LORD, endures forever, Do not forsake the works of Your hands.*

There are many details of your life that you are not even aware of that God knows about and He takes care of. For example, the Bible says even the very hairs of your head are all numbered (Matt.10:30). They are numbered because God keeps track of them. Just as no sparrow falls to the ground without God's knowledge, no strand of your hair falls to the ground without God's knowledge. God loves you so much and He wants you to cast all your cares on Him because

He cares for you, (1 Pet. 5:7).

Our first text above says the LORD guards ALL that is mine. He will keep and preserve all that concerns you. From your children, to your investments to your ministry, to all your resources and possessions. God even preserved the clothes and shoes of the Israelites throughout their journey in the wilderness.

The Bible says your seed shall be mighty upon the earth and your generation
