INTRODUCTION:
Passion is an intense or overpowering emotion such as, love, joy, hatred or anger. It is also a strong liking or enthusiasm for a subject or activity. Passion drives action and any action stirred by passion is different from others. Though there are positive and negative passions in life, divine messengers are to be led by positive passion, which was the reason Jesus went to the cross to redeem mankind. Passion to redeem mankind from the slavery of sin, grip of poverty, condemnation and death, was the sole reason God sent Jesus to die on the cross. Passion to continuously serve God in spirit, set his people free from slavery, drove Daniel and his brethren to dwell on vegetables than to defile themselves with the king's compromised but sumptuous meals in Babylon. (Dan. 1:8). Wisdom, spiritual guidance, faith, hard work and humility, work alongside passion. We need to stir our individual passion after this study, to make a difference in our services as messengers.
STUDY GUIDE
1. Explain what you understand by passion. What could it do to an individual and the society? (Cf. Gen. 29:20, 1Sam. 20:17, Jer. 24:6, John 15:9)
2. How do we stir up our passion and what difference can passion make in our lives? 2 Sam. 23:16-17, John 15:4, 5; 19:26, Phil. 2:5, Heb. 10:24, 25; 13:1
3. Passion alone is not enough. Mention other elements needed along with passion for better results. 1Sam. 18:5, John 15:4, Phil. 4:6, Col, 3:16, 4:6, Heb. 13:5, James 5:12, 17
4. Discuss biblical examples of people who had passion that pleased God. Gen.39:9, Num. 25:3-8, Dan. 1:8, 9.
CONCLUSION:
God has called us out of darkness, from the condemnation of sin into His marvelous light. We must grow our passion for godliness and love for each other as taught by Jesus (Heb. 13:1). May God give us grace to develop our passion for evangelism, growth of the church, welfare and obedience to God's word. This is true and achievable when we set ourselves aside as messengers of God.
