Minister:Bro Lambert Samuel
TOPIC: THE MAKING OF A CHAMPION
TEXT: I Samuel 17:45-51; Deut. 28:13; 1 Peter 2:9; Daniel 1:19-20
A champion, according to Wikipedia definition, is a victor in a challenge, contest or competition. A champion is a winner, or someone who's really good at something; a record-breaker; someone who is dazzlingly skilled in any field. One that wins first prize; an ardent defender of a cause;
It is important to state that champions are made (developed) and not born. Champions are grown through courage and perseverance in the face of fierce challenges. Champions want to make a difference. As a Chosen, you have what it takes to be a champion (infact, you are a champion for God) as in the case of men and women in the Bible and in contemporary time.
We shall consider this career seminar under the following sub-headings:
A champion explained and examples
Becoming a champion: pitfalls to avoid and steps to follow

A CHAMPION EXPLAINED AND EXAMPLES
1 Corinthians 9: 24-27; Daniel 1:8;
Champions identify the gifts that they have been given and seek to develop them into expertise. Being a champion has to do with knowing–really knowing–that you are the best at what you do. A champion lives and breathes the field for which they have talent. We can further explain the word ‘CHAMPION’, using the alphabets that make up the word.
C – consecration, commitment, consistent, creative, chosen (1 Cor. 7:24-27); H – holiness, honesty & humility (Daniel, Joseph); A – Attitude (attitude determines altitude-sound and winsome character); M – motivation, meditation (Josh 1:8), and movement (not stagnation-Deut. 1:6); P – purposefulness & purity (Dan. 1:8, Gen 39:11-12); I – intimate relationship with Christ, initiative & interactive (John 15:5); O – obedience (obedience to divine direction/instruction, heavenly vision Acts 26:19); N – newness of life, never giving up regardless of situation)
Examples abound in the scriptures of men and women who attained the level of champions in their different callings. A few of them are: Abraham (Gen 24:1, 22:1-3; 18:19 – prompt obedience, blessed in all things); Daniel & three Hebrew Children (Dan.1:8, 17-20; Ps.57:7-purposeful, bold, fixed heart); Joseph (Gen 42:6; 45:26 – had a dream and followed it, refused distractions, easily forgives); David (I Sam. 18:5,30 behaved himself wisely; 17:45 absolute dependence on God, fearless); Esther (Esther 4:16 –‘If I perish…’champions are risk-takers); Deborah (Judges 4:4,9-somebody described her as God’s iron-lady’, a faithful woman, fearless); Paul (I Corinth. 9:16-‘yea,woe is unto me, if..’, focused, committed to heavenly vision; 2 Tim.4:7; 3:10-14-fought a good fight and finished his course, purposeful, disciplined, earned a crown of righteousness, and made it to heaven); others are Jabez, Ruth, Gideon and many more in contemporary time.
BECOMING A CHAMPION: PITFALLS TO AVOID AND STEPS TO FOLLOW
The following pitfalls are to be avoided in becoming a champion: They are- procrastination (‘the thief of time, postponing important tasks for a convenient time-Prov.20:4); laziness/slothfulness (prov. 6:6,9-11 –go to the ant.., yet a little sleep.., life of ease and comfort); time mismanagement (wasted time is never regained; Eph. 5:16-redeeming the time); negative thoughts/unbelief (prov.23:7 –as a man thinketh in his…); inferiority complex; Sin (Hosea 8:3,pride e.g.Saul, anger, unforgiveness, disobedience e.g. Adam&Eve, immorality & worldliness e.g. Samson,Solomon, covetousness e.g. Judas Iscariot, speaking evil of others; envy), distractions & diversions (prov. 12:26b); evil associations (I Cor. 15:33); Excuses (shift blame, Gen 3:12); discouragement; indecision or delay in taking decisions; satanic manipulations (Luke13:16, John 10:10); fearfulness; prayerlessness; lack of confidence and proper planning, hastiness –impatience (Prov. 21:5)
The following steps and qualities are a ‘must’ take and have in becoming a champion: They are as follows:
Champions should cultivate positive thinking, confidence, and intelligence in regard to their work. Real champions–the best of the best–find ways to stay motivated and keep themselves one step ahead; always expect to win; champions always trust God, they see beyond the dangers, risks, oppositions; The position of a champion is available to every chosen who desires them purposefully and prayerfully with determination, diligence, discipline/temperate and divine direction. You need to have a dream, a desire, an ambition and an aspiration. Determination is a key that unlocks strong doors. The determined are never deterred by difficulties, disappointments, discouragements encountered on their way to greatness. Have absolute trust in the God of Chosen (Phil. 4:13 you can do all things through Christ); think positively –Phil 4:8-; Always rejoicing -Phil.4:4, smiling, singing-Eph 5:19, thankful attitude, showing-love-Eph 5:2, endure hardness -2Tim.2:3
