GOD WILL ANSWER YOUR PRAYERS

Blessed be God, who has not rejected my prayer or withheld his love from me. Psalm 66:20

Our God is faithful and merciful to His children. In this Psalm, King David praises God because He accepted his prayer. You will see in the words of today's verse, that David speaks of himself personally when he says, "Blessed be God, who has not rejected my prayer," so the prayers answered here are those of David.

By using this testimony of David and many other testimonies in the Bible, I assure you that indeed God faithfully answers the prayers of His people. However, many criteria determine whether a person's prayer will be answered.

In this Psalm, David begins by saying, "I cried out to him with my mouth; his praise was on my tongue. If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened; but God has surely listened and has heard my prayer." (Psalm 66:17-19) You see, David says his prayers would not have been heard if he had cherished sin in his heart.

Indeed, God hears and answers prayers, but some things can hinder our prayers. Isaiah 59:1-2 says, "Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you so that he will not hear."

God is faithful and ready to hear and answer our prayers, but sin separates us from God and causes our prayers to be unacceptable to Him. When you see that your prayers are not being answered, know that the problem lies with you, not with God.

There are many hindrances to our prayers, but the main hindrance discussed here today is sin. So do not be surprised if you see others' prayers being answered while yours are not. It is not that God has favouritism. Examine your life; maybe you are living a life that pleases God, but there is a certain sin troubling you. Strive to overcome it. Make every effort to live a holy life.

God also listens to the prayers of sinners, but those prayers must be of repentance and asking for forgiveness. Only then should other prayers follow. If you have not prayed for mercy and forgiveness from God and been forgiven, all your other prayers are invalid. So repent first before asking God for your other needs.

Prayer:
Lord, you are faithful. You listen to and answer our prayers. I pray that you grant me the grace to live a life that pleases you so that my prayers may find favour before you. Amen.

If You Find God, You Find Peace

"And He said, 'My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.'" Exodus 33:14

When God is with you when you go through difficult situations, He will give you rest, you will have peace and assurance of getting through safely because you know God is with you.

Having God's presence with you does not mean you will not face challenges in your life, no! But it means that having God makes it different. In Psalm 23:4, God's word says, "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me." In this verse, we see that David had assurance and peace in his heart because God was with him.

Also, in the book of Isaiah 43:2, God's word says, "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned; nor shall the flame scorch you." When God says He is with you, be assured that everything will be alright.

Now, the important thing in today’s world is, "Make sure in your life, at all times, you remain in God's presence." Do not allow anything or anyone to be a reason for you to be far from God.

The cost of walking outside of God's presence is too high. Moses refused to continue with the journey to Canaan without God's presence and said to God, "If your presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here. Exodus 33:15" Just think, the whole nation stood still until they were sure that God was with them. How about you? Shouldn't you do much more?

I urge you again, at any cost, to ensure your relationship with God is right. Do not let sin separate you from God or your desires. Whether someone has offended or hurt you and you have not been able to forgive them, ask God to help you.

Do not let the desires of the flesh cause you to fall out with God, nor the desire for wealth and money. Be faithful in everything you do, and you will see God's presence cover and prosper you in everything you do.

Prayer: Oh Lord, I ask for your presence to be with me always. May your Holy Spirit be with me, and may he teach me how to walk with Him in obedience and humility. Amen.

Be on your guard

“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith.” 1Co 16:13 NIV

Sometimes you experience more problems after you become a Christian than you did before. “Think back on those early days when you first learned about Christ. Remember how you remained faithful even though it meant terrible suffering” (Heb 10:32 NLT). Consider the life of Christ. “After his baptism…the heavens…opened…And a voice…said, ‘This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy’” (Mt 3:16-17 NLT). Then we read: “Jesus was led…into the wilderness to be tempted there by the devil” (Mt 4:1 NLT). First the call, then the conflict. And that’s still how it works! When Paul was called into ministry, he was given “a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted” (2Co 12:7). So when you say yes to God, prepare for attack. Satan attacks what he fears, and he fears God’s plan for your life. When a player starts scoring, the other team targets him because they know he is capable of winning. Getting the idea? Before Jesus launched His ministry, Satan offered Him the kingdoms of the world, and he will make you the same offer. So, the only safe place to be is in the center of God’s will. When Noah was building the ark, he could withstand a hundred years of scorn, but when the job was done, he ended up drunk and disgraced. Paul writes, “These things…were written down to warn us…If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall” (1Co 10:11, 12 NLT). So, the word for you today is—be on your guard!

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL

DATE: TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 6TH 2022

THEME: WHY DO SINNERS FLOURISH?

MEMORISE: When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; it is that they shall be destroyed for ever.
Psalm 92:7

READ: Psalm 37:1-11

1 Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.

2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.

3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

4 Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.

7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.

9 For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.

10 For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.

11 But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

MESSAGES

Many people keep wondering why sinners are flourishing while some believers, don’t have enough. Well, one of the reasons is that the devil is preparing those sinners as rams for the slaughter, as we see in today's memory verse.

What the devil does is to give something worth an amount of money, say 1 million dollars, to his victims and then take something that money cannot buy from them. The 1 million dollars will seem like a lot, but when they compare it to what he took from them, they would then realise that they have been stolen from, killed and destroyed. That is the mission statement of the devil as revealed to us by Jesus Christ in John 10:10. Thus, when it appears as if a wicked person is prospering from his or her wickedness, don't envy their wealth; the reason the devil is prospering them is so that he can destroy them forever.

Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof….
Ecclestiates 7:8

When someone gets wealth from the devil, he would only enjoy it for a while and at the end of the day, end up destroyed. When that end comes, you see the fellow preferring to let go of all the riches and embrace Christ. Such a person becomes sorrowful and all the money would mean nothing once the fellow realises that he or she is heading for destruction. That is why Psalm 37:16 says: "A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked".

It is better to have only a little and end up in heaven than to gain the whole world and lose your soul. In any case, God said His wish for you is that you prosper (3 John 2). Even as your soul prospers, so don't go into sin because you want to prosper; God already has prosperity in store for you in the salvation package. You, however, need to live holy. He said in Deuteronomy 28:1-2 that if you hearken diligently to His word, He will set you on high above the nations of the earth. He said blessings will pursue and overtake me. That is the kind of blessing I like: the one that will pursue and overtake me, while at the end of the day, I would still end up in heaven. That is the kind of prosperity I like, not that of the wicked.

KEY POINT:
The devil prospers the wicked so as to destroy them later.
