GOING BACK TO OUR FIRST LOVE
BIBLE READING: JEREMIAH 2:1-2; MATTHEW 24:12; 1CORINTHIANS 13:1-3
"Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your First Love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen. Repent and do the First Works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your Lampstand from its place—unless you repent." Revelations 2:4-5(NKJV)
God has not called us to a Master-servant relationship. Rather He has called us into a Love Relationship with Him. Jesus commended the Church in Ephesus for their dedicated labour and intolerance for sin and false apostles. However, He rebuked them for abandoning their First Love, which they had before because Apostle Paul commended them for their Faith and Love. (Eph. 1:15) Their service to God and to one another was no longer based on Love but on legalism. This particular Church and the Christians in it reflect so much of the Church and Christianity throughout history and the present day. God's Redemption Plan and Ex*****on was based solely on His Love for mankind and creation (Jn. 3:16) therefore our response to Him must be based solely on Love as well.
Jesus commands us to return to our First Love and do the First Works. Our First Love is God and the First Work is to Love Him with all our hearts. (Mt. 22:37-38; Mk. 12:29-30). Every other thing we do should flow from an Overwhelming Love for the God who loved us first. (1Jn. 4:19) According to First Corinthians 13:1-3, every labour, giving or sacrifice that is not based on Love is meaningless to God.
When our labour and sacrifice is devoid of love, it would not please God and it would not save us from His Divine Judgment, (Rev. 2:5) but when we love, it drives us to seek God's Will in order to obey and please Him.
Below are a few of the many ways you know that your Love for the Lord God Almighty has waxed cold:
(1.) You lack desire to spend time with your Father: Your devotion time is
