Minister: Pastor E. A. Adeboye
Topic: Excellent Counsel
Text: Proverbs 24: 5-6
Wisdom is profitable to direct. Proverbs 4:7-9
If you need to make a decision, wisdom tells you that you need counsel.
But not all counsel is good.
Some counsel can destroy.
Rehoboam got bad counsel from his friends and the kingdom was torn into two. 1 Kings 12:1-16
One of the names of Jesus is Counselor. Isaiah 9:6
For the young, the counsel of God for you:
▪︎ Honour your parents so that your days may be long. Exodus 20:12
If you don't honour your parents, the possibility of you becoming one is slim.
▪︎ Remember your Creator in the days of your youth. Ecclesiastes 12:1-8
God will forgive you if you go wrong.
But you need to know that wounds may heal but scars will remain.
Right from your youth, commit yourself to the service of God.
Proverbs 22:29
▪︎ It doesn't matter how low you are now, if you will be diligent, you will dine with great men.
It doesn't matter how lowly the job you're doing now, do it diligently.
Be diligent in the service of God and you will reach the top.
Proverbs 10:4, 12:24
Be diligent, and you will make it to the top.
For the elders:
Psalm 90:12
▪︎ Number your days.
The older you grow, the less time you have for nonsense.
This is not the time to toy with the things of God.
As you grow older, you get weaker.
Wisdom is better than strength.
As you get older, you'll get weaker so apply wisdom. Ecclesiastes 7:19
For those who are of marriageable age and are single:
▪︎ Our God is good (Psalm 100:5), and He can't tolerate anything that isn't good.
He is the One Who said it is not good for man to be alone. Genesis 2:18.
And so He decided to correct that situation.
He will soon put an end to your loneliness because He is a faithful God.
My advice to the singles:
▪︎ Keep yourself pure. Flee when the devil is trying to entice you into sin. 2 Timothy 2:22
▪︎ Before you decide on who to marry, please pray. Proverbs 19:21
In your prayer, ask for the perfect will of God.
Keep yourself pure.
For the boys:
▪︎ Choose very wisely. Don't choose simply because of beauty. Proverbs 31:30
The mathematics of marriage:
Equation 1: Love is blind
Equation 2: Marriage opens blind eyes.
If you marry because of beauty, you might choose a demon.
▪︎ Choose a woman who is hospitable.
▪︎ Don't marry a woman who doesn't do things in moderation. Philippians 4:5
For my daughters;
▪︎ No matter how religious, handsome or tongue-speaking, ask him if the man has a job.
God gave Adam a job first before a wife. Genesis 2:15-25
1 Timothy 5:8
▪︎ Don't marry a brother whose tongue is too sweet; he who flatters. Proverbs 29:5
▪︎ If a man who doesn't live in holiness comes to you, RUN!
For those who are married;
▪︎ Your spouse is your first prayer partner.
You bear each other up because you know that if your spouse sinks, you sink.
▪︎ Let there be no unresolved anger between the two of you.
Ephesians 4:26
Don't let the sun set on your anger.
For all of us:
▪︎ Don't forget that Jesus is coming soon.
1 Corinthians 15: 51-58
His return may be by death or by rapture. Luke 17:34
He can come anytime. Signs to precede His coming have been fulfilled.
Salvation Call
The Lord is coming and coming soon. Make sure you're ready.
If you haven't given your life to Jesus or you're pretending to be born again, if He comes, you can't go with Him.
Ask the Lord to have mercy on you, forgive your sins, wash you clean with His blood, and save your soul.
