TOPIC: ENTIRE CONSECRATION AND
PERSONAL GROWTH IN GODLINESS
TEXTS: JUDE 1:20–23.
Jude specifically stated out the entire consecration and personal growth in godliness.
Jude 1:20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, 1:21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
1:22 And of some have compassion, making a difference:
1:23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.
POINT 1. CLASSIFICATION OF FAITH AND THE CLARIFICATION ON FAITHFULNESS
JUDE 1:20
The epistle has been talking about apostatse and he challenged us to have faith and faithfulness, he talks about the mercy of God we have, he talks about the grace we have in Christ, and he now he laid emphasis on faith, that since we are saved by grace, we have become believers and we should earnestly contend for the faith that was once delivered unto the Saints. As he comes to the conclusion, he's still talking to the believers who are saved, and he calls us beloved. He challenges us now that instead of joining the corrupters, we should build up ourselves in the most holy faith. Don't wait for others to build you up. He also encourages us that we need to pray in the Holy Ghost.
I. Perceiving the humble, honest faith in Christ.
Matthew 8:8–10; 15:25–28; 1 Timothy 1:12–16
The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.
For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
When Jesus heard it, he marvelled and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. (Matthew 8:8-10). That is humility and honest we ought to have, this centurion was humble and honest, he declared unto the Lord that he was not worthy, we are favoured by the Lord and worthy by the Lord, not by our own effort. This centurion man showed understanding, confident, faith and trust in Jesus, he knew that Christ has authority over sin, He can save us, He can deliver us, this man expressed faith in humility and honesty. Christ has said the gentiles and the sinners are dust because they lived the life of dust, but this man humbly accepted what Christ said, faith must be humble, and faith must be honest. When you do not reject the word of God, it comes piercing and condemning sin.
Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.
But he answered and said, "It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs."
And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.
Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour. (Matthew 15:25-28). That's the humility and honesty in her faith, she wasn't justifying herself, and she didn't try to polish her life, when a sinner comes before the Lord and the word of God says all have sinned and come short of the glory of God and that person dodges it, that is Pride and pride and honesty cannot work together, it's not our qualifications that grant us salvation but it's by the mercy of God. We need humility and honesty, we are not qualify or fit by ourselves, but Christ enables us. We obtain mercy that saves, the love of God without our merit is the humility and honesty that we have implicit faith in the Lord that gives us salvation we need before we can get to heaven. Without the grace and mercy of God, we won't be saved. The centurion man recognised that it was only the grace of God that saves him, if you're a sinner, God will have mercy on you if you will have humility, honesty, humble faith and confidence and trust in the Lord, He will forgive you and change your life. The beauty of salvation in Christ is that you don't sin anyone. When we manifest a humble faith, it transforms our lives. When grace comes into the life of the one who has the humble faith, a transformation comes as well.
Ii. Preserving the heavenly, holy faith from Christ.
Ephesians 2:8–10; Galatians 2:20; Jude 1:20
Salvation is the gift of God, as we come before the Lord to receive salvation, we must be humble and honest, those who are not humble they don't accept gifts because they think they are self sufficient, the salvation of God shows us that we cannot have salvation by ourselves and it's a gift, it's the faith we have in God that makes us save. He gives us new life which we could never have by ourselves because salvation is a gift of God. There's no ground for boasting because we purchased salvation by the grace of God as gift, not by merit, after we are saved by faith, we are saved unto good works, we do not continue in the sinful evil practice anymore because now God works in us and we are His workmanship. Christ was crucified for us, and now, as we are saved, we are identified with the crucifixion of Christ. Our old life, old personality has been crucified with Christ, all those things that identified you as sinner, everything is now crucified with Christ and each day of your life Christ liveth in you, and you live on the faith of Christ who love you. Heavenly faith marks you as a new creature and different person in Christ. Don't tear down yourself, don't breakdown yourself, don't work against yourself, build up yourself, it takes prayer because prayer makes us depend on the grace of God to do for us what we couldn't do for ourselves.
Iii. Praying in the Holy Ghost with confidence.
Romans 8:15,26,27; 1 Corinthians 14:15; Ephesians 6:16–18.
When we pray and the Holy Ghost assists us, we pray with confidence. God is our Father, He has pardoned us, we've come out among the disobedience and because we have come out of sin, He has fulfilled his promises and He gives us confidence when we pray, we are not only praying by ourselves, we have the assistance and upliftment coming from the Holy Ghost. We pray with understanding in our own language, then we pray with the Spirit of God in another language when we are baptized in the Holy Ghost, we enter into the realm of the spirit after we possess purity and power. Faith is a shield. It's the armour of the Christian soldiers. We have faith that the word of God can not fail, that confidence we have in God is a shield, and that shield of faith will quench and resist anything devil tries to throw at us. There's no dart of the wicked that is so sharp that the shield of faith can not quench. It makes us have confidence and makes us conquer. Jesus defeated the Satan by the sword of the spirit which is the word of God and when you memorise the word and mediate on the word and anything arrow, anything affliction coming from the devil, the shield of faith will defend you, and the word you speak will make you an overcomer in Jesus Name. Pray always, no gambling, no worry, no fear, no murmuring, you can't pray and murmur at the same time, you pray with understanding of the promises of God and as you quotes and read those promises outlined in the scriptures, everything will be yours. You pray with your consecration, and as you pray with the scriptures in place, and you also pray in the spirit, you will have the promises of God fulfilled in your life.
POINT 2. CONSERVATION IN HIS FAVOUR AND CONTINUATION IN FELLOWSHIP.
JUDE 1:21.
Keep yourself in the love of God, God so loved us that He gave His only begotten Son and if you believe in Him you will not perish, keep yourself in the circle of the love of God and the circle of the people who love God, outside that circle is darkness, danger and temptress, don't listen to those who beckon on you to come out of God's circle, keep yourself inside that circle of God's love. The Lord is coming.
I. Our soul's keeping in the favour of the Father.
Jude 1:21; 1 Peter 1:3–5; Jude 1:1,24.
God has favoured us, and now we need to remain in that favour. The mercy of God is abundant, He raised Christ from the dead so as to show us favour and mercy, and it's because we come into the resurrection of Jesus, what brought us in will keep us in. The resurrection of Jesus brought us into grace and love, and in that resurrection of Christ, we remain. We do not foolishly stay away from the keeping power of the Lord. We are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation. God keep us, He gave us the promises and we are kept by the power of God, He want us to keep in faith and favour and we also have our human responsibility, God is able to keep us from falling, but you need to keep yourself in the Lord.
Ii. Our safe keeping in the faith through faithfulness.
John 15:6,10; 2 Timothy 1:12–14; Revelation 3:10,11.
God called us and we responded, He told us to earnestly contend for the faith and we are kept in that faith, if a man abide not in the grace we find in Christ, and in the love and righteousness we find in Christ, that man will be cast off. You have your part to play. We must abide in God's love and favour through our faithfulness. We suffer persecution, but we don't allow that to pull us out of the circle of the love of God. If we don't commit our lives into God's hand, He cannot force His saving security on us, we commit everything we have into His hand so that He will keep us until the last day, we should hold fast the sound word we have learnt from Him, now we have the Holy Ghost, at salvation and sanctification the Holy Ghost is there to assist us and help us, we are kept by the Holy Ghost. The Lord is expecting that we keep His word. We obtain all the grace we need so that we will keep his word, and we will not be falling and rising. Very soon, Jesus will come. Hold fast what you have that no one take your crown. Those who don't yield and fall, and they don't give up shall overcome.
Iii. Our steadfast keeping in His fellowship for the future.
1 Thessalonians 1:6–10; 2 Peter 3:10–14; 1 John 1:3–7.
What we do today we do so that we are strengthen for the future and be preserved until the future and reap the fruit in the future, and so we have a steadfast keeping in the fellowship of God for the future. We are followers of Christ, not selfish management, not isolated, but we are followers of God, and we are examples for others. Suddenly, unannounced, the day of the coming of the Lord will come, and many people will not be prepared. Because we are waiting for the sudden return of the Lord, we must be living in holiness, in righteousness, and in godliness. Everything created shall be dissolved when the Lord comes. We should be diligent that we may be found of Christ in peace without spot and blameless and we have fellowship with God and with one another, if you declare it but you disobey it, there cannot be fellowship. fellowship comes because you declare it and live by it. There's no darkness in Christ, and if we say we have fellowship with Him and walk in evil and disobedience, and with a satanic nature, we are lied and do not do the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with Christ and with one another.
POINT 3. COMPASSION ON THE FALLEN WITHOUT CONTAMINATION WITH THEIR FILTHINESS
JUDE 1:22,23
We should have compassion on those who have fallen into sin, there are people who fall by carelessness, other people fall deliberately and when they fell, they wanted to do it and they are fallen, other people are fallen because they take pride in the deliberate action of their fallen, other people are even influencing others to fall along with them, some have fallen and they regret and they want to be restored, go after them. Others are not eager to be rescued. They can pull you down if you try to pull them up that's why you must be careful. Others are fallen by the spotted garment of flesh.
I. Compassion on the fallen, converting them to the faith.
Jude 1:22; Galatians 4:19,20; James 5:19,20.
You can not follow people to night clubs to rescue them, stay outside, don't be polluted, and exercise caution with compassion. Some are fallen into the law of the old covenant and they are confused, we can travail with prayer and tears with them, we cannot follow them to the night club, but we can travail with prayer for them. If anyone is fallen, he need compassion, backsliders needs compassion, some are fallen because of covetousness and they want to come back, we start with compassion on them, you will not start with Holy Ghost, you will start with compassion because he's now a sinner and a sinner speaking in tongues is of no values, once a backslider is restored to the Lord, he saved his life.
Ii. Caution against familiarity with carriers of filthiness or falsehood.
Jude 1:23a; Amos 4:11,12; Numbers 16:26.
When somebody carries HIV aids, you will want to be careful, you don't want to share personal things with them, the same thing when a man have a viruse of Satan, virus of lust, virus of evil deeds, you don't want to be carelessly mingle with him, you want to take caution against familiarity of the carrier of filthiness and falsehood. You might be friends with the backsliders when they were not dangerous but now they practice evil and they don't fear the God of heaven, now they are deliberately disobedience and publicly speak against God, caution yourself. These backsliders that went away from the Lord, you need to exercise caution against them. Don't be familiar with the people who do not fear God, they sometimes profess faith in God yet they overlook sin, they stiffen their neck and they walk contrary to God, be conscious don't allow them to confuse you. Better you stay save than to follow them and come back confused.
Iii. Concern for their forgiveness, yet conscious of the future flaming fire.
Jude 1:23; Matthew 3:7–10; Mark 9:43–48.
You don't hate them, you love them, that's why you're weeping over them and show concern, but when you love them there's a difference between the man and the mischief that he have, you love him but you hate all the evil things that could splash on you and defile you. Don't dress like them, don't act like them, you must hate their garments that are spotted by flesh, you are not the same, don't drink because you want to get the drunkards, they shouldn't think that you're part of them, you should keep your stand so that you will be able to restore the people that are fallen. Don't be identified with the backsliders to eat what they eat, if you act and live like them, you cannot call them to repentance, Jonah didn't copy the Nineveh because he want to get them saved, you must be concerned but you must still be conscious and separate yourself from their characters. Don't join them, don't copy them, don't become a sinner because of them, if you become a sinner and Christ comes, then you are lost. If somebody is so important to you and he go astray, and he's not repenting and he want to influence you, if helping hand can cause you to sin against God, cut it off, those are the word of Jesus. Anything that tries to make you sin against God, it's better you cut it off. We've heard a lot today, and the Lord wants our hearts to be a fallow ground where the word of God is planted.
