Gaudete Sunday — Rejoice!

Today, the Church invites us to rejoice as we celebrate Gaudete Sunday, the Third Sunday of Advent. In the midst of our waiting, the liturgy reminds us today that our hope is not empty, the Lord is near.

Reflecting on today’s homily given by the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Samson Babatunde Ojo, we are called to a joy that is deeper than momentary happiness: a joy rooted in faith, gratitude, and trust in God’s promises. Like John the Baptist, we are reminded to prepare our hearts not with fear, but with joyful repentance, good works, and love for one another.

As symbolized by the rose vestments, Gaudete Sunday reassures us that even in times of challenge, Christian joy remains steadfast because Christ is coming.

May this Sunday renew our strength, rekindle our hope, and inspire us to live as witnesses of joyful expectation.

Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I say, rejoice! (Cf Phil.4:4-5)🙏

PHOTO NEWS: THE HOLY SPIRIT SPEAKS A NEW LANGUAGE IN US.

At the Pentecost Mass yesterday which marks 50 days after the resurrection of Christ, the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Samson Ojo Ojo Samson reiterated the need for Christians not to be afraid to receive the Holy Spirit and proclaim Christ, just like the disciples when they gathered in the upper room to pray to God.

"Coming to Church on Sundays alone does not guarantee us the outpouring of the Holy Spirit", he said.

He cemented that fact by telling the congregation that for a new language of the spirit to be spoken by them, they have to imbibe the spirit of Christ.

He also urged all present to speak the language of love and help one another.

"Bear the fruits that the world will know you belong to Christ", he concluded.

St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ogbomoso Celebrates Elderly and Grandparents

In a heartwarming event, St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ogbomoso celebrated its elderly and grandparents, answering the call from Pope Francis for a universal celebration of the elder members of the community.

During the special Mass, the elderly and grandparents were given places of honour in the front pews, adorned in vibrant attire that highlighted the festive occasion. Rev. Fr. Samson Babatunde Ojo, the parish priest, praised the elders for their unwavering dedication and contributions to the church over the years. He highlighted their selflessness and encouraged them to continue their service, reminding them that there is no retirement in God's work. Fr. Ojo also offered prayers for their health and longevity, and he called on the younger generation to draw inspiration from their example.

The celebration included the presentation of gifts to the elderly, donated by both the parish priest and the Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria (CYON) from the parish. In a notable moment during the Mass, Daniel Ogbueze was officially invested as a member of the Altar Servers.

This event underscored the church's commitment to honoring its senior members and fostering intergenerational bonds within the community.
