During the late Queen of England ( Queen Elizabeth ) visit to Old Western Region which Great Benin was illegally added after British invasion of Great Benin Empire, Obafemi Awolowo invited Oba Akenzua II of Great Benin Empire to come to Ibadan to meet the Queen of England where other Traditional Rulers from old Western Region assembled to meet the Queen of England, Oba Akenzua declined the invitation and requested that he will only receive the Queen of England in his Benin Palace.
The Queen of England then ordered Obafemi Awolowo to bring her to Benin for a visit with Oba Akenzua II. Below is the recorded bronze plaque from the meeting between the Great Oba Akenzua II and Queen Elizabeth that took place in Benin Kingdom.
