TOPIC FOR ADULT: Better days ahead
Most times when problems overwhelm a person, he or she would not be able to think through. At such a time, such a person needs word of assurance that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. This was the message of God through Zechariah to the returning Jew's. If you are familiar with the Bible and contemporary history of God changing people's situation, it is an assurance that God is coming through for you in a short distant time.
TOPIC FOR YOUTH: God is not done with you.
Pick the biography or autobiography of any great man or woman in any field of human endeavor and it will reveal they once failed not once but several times in the past. There is one common denomination among them. They all overcame their failure. Good enough, you have a great God who was, who is, and who will continue to be. Therefore, your current situation is a mere transition.
TOPIC FOR INTERMEDIATE: You can rely on His promises for today and tomorrow.
By experience, your parent and loved ones have disappointed you on a few occasion before. That is because human beings are limited in resources. TOPIC FOR ADULT: Why not let it go?
The Bible reaches that God's people are not to take personal revenge for what is considered to be a wrong done to us. We should be forgive our offenders and allow God to deal with the person as He See's fit. In the law of Moses, as in the teaching of Jesus, God's people are taught not even to bear grudges against their enemies. They must positively do good to those who do evil to them (Lev. 19:17-18;Matt. 5:44-48).Unforgiving spirit and revenge have a way of coming back to affect people's lives. It has the tendency to continue for generation as it happened to Esau and Jacob. Some families, perhaps yours, might have found themselves in this mess. In the light of this lesson, and as children of God, why not stop the cycle? Why not let it go?
TOPIC FOR YOUTH: Forgive and overlook
Some years ago in a Teachers' Training college, a teacher teaching the subject, principle and practice of education said something about selective perception, which means that, each person can consciously select what he perceives and responds to. In other words, one can choose what he hears and what he remember or forget. Youth and young people in the family are prone to pick offences that have the tendency to generate into a big generation feud. As children of God, we should learn to quickly forgive and when in future we remember, quickly overlook.
TOPIC FOR INTERMEDIATE: Do not get even
"I will do my own" syndrome is one of the problem being faced in families this days. The spirit of revenge is apparent among young ones. Children want to pay back the offender. They want to take their own pound of flesh. As a child of God, such should not be your attitude because it is not of the spirit of Christ.
