Life changes its locks with every season, and only the right key reveals the impact waiting inside.
I learned this not in a classroom or from a pulpit, but on dusty roads, in crowded rooms, and in quiet conversations where hearts were more guarded than doors. When I first stepped into the work of missions, I believed passion alone was the master key. I preached loudly, prayed fervently, and carried conviction like a battering ram, certain that every lock would yield to force and faith combined.
But seasons have a way of humbling you.
In one place, the doors were open but the hearts were weary. People had heard too many promises that never came to pass. My words bounced off their faces like rain on stone. It was there I learned that the key was not eloquence, but presence. Sitting longer than speaking. Listening without rushing to fix. When I slowed down, trust clicked open, and the gospel found room to breathe.
In another season, the lock was fear. The community was closed, not because they rejected God, but because following Him carried a cost. I discovered that courage was the key—but not mine alone. It was the quiet courage of believers who chose faith over safety, obedience over comfort. My role shifted from leading the charge to standing beside them, reminding them they were not alone. The impact showed itself not in numbers, but in faith that endured.
There were seasons when nothing seemed to open at all. Prayers felt unanswered. Effort felt wasted. I rattled every key I had—strategy, fasting, sacrifice—until exhaustion taught me the hardest lesson: some locks yield only to patience. In waiting, God refined me more than my message. When the door finally opened, it was clear the season had been more about shaping the messenger than expanding the mission.
Now I move differently. I no longer assume one key fits every door. I ask before acting. I discern before declaring. I trust that God, who designs the seasons, also provides the keys. My calling has not changed, but my understanding has deepened.
Impact is not forced. It is revealed—when the right key meets the right season, and God turns the lock from the inside.
