READ: Amos 3:6-8

6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the Lord hath not done it?

7 Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

8 The lion hath roared, who will not fear? the Lord God hath spoken, who can but prophesy?

MESSAGE:

When a prophesy comes - I mean a genuine prophecy, it is because the person prophesying has received some insight into the future. God may give a person a prophesy directly or through someone else; whichever the case, He always has a reason for revealing the future. However, If the person despise the prophesy, he or she may never see its fulfilment.

God sends us prophecies for different reasons. Sometimes, it is merely for our information; however, there are times when we are required to act on it.

Sometime ago, there were two major candidates running for the office of the President in Nigeria and both were Muslims. During a meeting of the Nigerian Pentecostal Preachers, the matter was raised as to who we should encourage Christians in Nigeria to vote for. When asked for my opinion, I said "God has already told me the result of the election. God said the fellow who will win the election will be the loser and the one who will lose the election will be the winner." So, I didn't bother my members as to who to vote for and when things eventually began to play out in the country, I was relaxed because I already had the information ahead of time.

However, for some other prophecies, God requires that you act on them. Sometimes He reveals the plans of the devil and you need to pray to cancel them. There was a woman who relayed a dream in which her husband (who had just travelled) was brought back in a coffin. I asked if her husband was born again, and she said 'yes' so I prayed with her that the husband would not die. A few days later, I saw an obituary in the newspaper and the man who had died had the same surname as this sister. On enquiry, I discovered that it was another member of her husband's family who had died; the fellow wasn't born again. Death had planned to take her husband, God however exposed the plan in her dream, we prayed, and the husband lived.

Imagine if she had despised the warning from God. ls there anything God has told or shown you recently that you need to pray against? You had better pray today so as destroy the plans of the enemy.

If you are a child of God and you do not hear from Him, ask Him to start speaking to you from today (1 Corinthians 12:31). However, if you are not yet His child, give your life to Him now so He can begin to speak to you also.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, help me to always hear from You and to know what You would have me do In Jesus' name.

*TOPIC: THE SOULWINNER MAY BE INSULTED*

*MEMORISE:*

11. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

12. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad; for great is your reward in heaven; for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

*MESSAGE:*
To win souls for Christ, you need the Holy Spirit and you would also have to develop a thick skin. Once in a while, you will be insulted and even ridiculed for the sake of the gospel you are preaching. You need to ignore the insults and continue to go after the souls. If you let the insults get to you and fire back, the unbelievers will say “And you call yourself a Christian’. If you decide to stop preaching because of the insults, you would have allowed the devil to win.

Many times, the people insulting you are even doing so on purpose. Several years ago, one of my daughters begged me to talk to her father (a former military governor) about Jesus Christ. When I visited him, he attacked me with insults. “You, look at yourself. Ph.D. in mathematics and you are going about carrying Jesus on your head. I know what you are doing. You think I don’t know your tricks? You are taking money from poor women and students so you can be rich. That is how you are using your own Mathematics. I also know about the miracles that they say are happening in your Church. We know the babalawos (witch doctors) people like you consult”. He just went on and on and I kept smiling.

When he finally got born again years later and was giving his testimony, he said “If my gun had been nearby that day, I would have shot you”. I asked why he would have done that and he said “Because I was trying to make you angry and the harder I tried, the more you laughed and it was killing me”.

When you are going to preach to souls, leave all your degrees and achievements at home. When you get there, if they accept your message, great. If they insult you, pray for them and leave. Some people have names they have been tagged with in their office or school because they keep preaching the gospel. A lot of these unbelievers know that what you are saying is the truth but they just want to make you angry.

Winning souls is warfare because the one who you are trying to sn**ch them from is a strong man and will not let them go easily. He will also attack you in several ways for trying to sn**ch souls from him. He will attack your ego to get you to stop but you must not. When you compare the rejoicing that will happen in heaven over that one soul to the insults, your ego will not matter.

*PRAYER POINT:*
Father, as I go out to preach Your gospel, don't let anything discourage me, in the mighty name of Jesus.

TOPIC: EXAMINE YOURSELF

MEMORISE:
“Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.” – (1 Corinthians 10:12)

READ: John 9:39-41 (KJV)
39. And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.
40. And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also?
41. Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin; but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.

MESSAGE:
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? - (2 Corinthians 13:5)

Many people only consider Matthew 7:16-20 in relation to others. They assess the fruits others are producing but forget to assess theirs. Salvation is on an individual basis and not congregational. You need to ask yourself some serious questions to know if you are on your way to heaven or hell. Don’t be surprised to know that many people who are in the Church, fervent and tongue-speaking will go to hell. In fact, Matthew 7:22-23 says some who have been performing miracles will end up in hell. Thus, you really need to examine yourself to be sure where you are headed. Ask yourself: Am I saved? Am I born again? Note that I am not telling you to ask yourself “Do I go to Church? Do people say I am born again? Am I a Pastor?” The real question is “Am I saved? Are the fruits I am producing the kind that should be produced by someone who is saved?” The word of God says it clearly: except you are born again, you shall not see the kingdom of God (John 3:3).

We now live in a world where there are all manner of people calling themselves born-again Christians. There are ‘born-again’ robbers. They lift up ‘holy’ hands on Sunday, but on Monday morning, they use those hands to doctor figures in the office. Examine yourself: are you one of them? There are ‘born-again’ harlots, very fervent in the Church, but behind closed doors, they sleep with people who are not their spouses and engage in all other sorts of sexual immorality. Examine yourself. There are ‘born-again’ liars, they know how to brandish lies so well that by the time they are done you may not even be able to differentiate between the truth and lies. Examine yourself.

Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. - (Philippians 2:12)

Carry out a sincere examination on yourself with fear and trembling - fear for the destruction that awaits anyone who is not truly saved and trembling at imagining yourself standing before God on judgment day.

REFLECTION:
Examine yourself: are you truly born again? Or are you putting up appearances?

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL

DATE: THURSDAY 4TH MARCH 2021.

THEME: VICTORY BY THE BLOOD.

MEMORISE:

For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul. Leviticus 17:11

READ: Exodus 12:12-14

12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the Lord.

13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.

14 And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the Lord throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.

MESSAGE:

According to our Bible reading for today, when God afflicted the land of Egypt with the death of all firstborn males, the Israelites were saved by the sprinkling of blood. This was a glimpse of what was to come later when Jesus shed His blood for us. The blood of Jesus is not just any ordinary blood, it is blood in its purest form that never loses its potency from generation to generation. The Bible tells us that the blood of Jesus cleanses every sin. If you will experience forgiveness of your sins, it must be by the blood of Jesus.

“But in those sacrifices, there is a remembrance again made of sins every year. For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.” Hebrews10:3-4

The blood of animals which used to be shed before Jesus' death on the cross only covered sins temporarily, but the blood of Jesus removes sins completely and restores fellowship between God and man. No wonder John prophetically lifted his voice when he saw Jesus in John 1:29:

“... and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”

Hebrews10:10 says:

“By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.”

Once Jesus did it, it was done because His blood is pure and powerful. The first blood of the innocent shed on earth is that of Abel. The Bible says his blood went up to God and got His attention for vengeance. The blood of Jesus is not only innocent but pure and speaks mercy.

Hebrews 12:24 says:

“And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.”

Finally, we will win and be raptured by the blood. Revelation 12:11 says:

“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb...”

Don't fight the battles of life by your power; engage the power in the blood of Jesus

KEY POINT:

The devil had been defeated when Jesus shed His blood for our sins. Enter into victory today by the blood of Jesus.

*MESSAGE:*
God loves to partner with people for His work here on earth. When He wanted to deliver the people of Israel from the bo***ge of the Egyptians, He partnered with Moses. When He wanted to raise dry bones to become an army, He partnered with Prophet Ezekiel as we see in today's Bible reading. The major thing that qualifies you for partnership with God is holiness because He is a holy God and Amos 3:3 says two cannot walk together except they agree.

Beyond holiness however, one thing has to be clear from the beginning: He is the Senior Partner while you are the junior partner. Being the junior partner means that you have to forget whatever it is that you have achieved and place yourself wholly under His leadership.

Peter was a professional fisherman. He had been fishing since he was a youth. Jesus on the other hand was a carpenter. When Jesus wanted to perform the miracle of a boat-sinking catch and needed Peter to partner with Him, He told him to fish at a time when, from experience, Peter knew there would be little or no catch. Peter however put all his experience and qualifications aside to obey the Senior Partner and the result was a catch so great that it filled two boats.

One day, just after I became the General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, the Lord said to me, " My son, you are almost forty years old and forty as you know is considered the age of wisdom". I said ''Yes, Lord". He went on to show-me two graphs. One looked like a valley, the other a mountain. He then told me to choose which of the two I wanted. I understood straightaway by the help of the Holy Spirit, so I chose the valley. He said "Very well, son, I am ready to become your partner so that from now, you will be climbing. But for that to happen, everything about you has to reduce to zero." Before that time, my name plate read 'Rev. Dr. E.A Adeboye, B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D.' and at the bottom was 'General Overseer'. God said to me "From now, you will be known simply as Pastor Adeboye. All the big titles have to go - the B.Scs., M.Sc., Ph.D. I am not interested in them."

If you want God to partner with you humbly take the position of a junior partner. All your knowledge and achievements have to be put aside. Your obedience to your Senior Partner has to be absolute.

*KEY POINT:*
God is the Senior Partner; you are the junior partner. He instructs, you obey. He leads, you follow.

*BIBLE READING: ISAIAH 59:1-2*
1Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:

2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

*MESSAGE:*
Many people see God as a magician. They come to Him only when they need to see a 'magic trick'; though they say what they want is a miracle. Such people want to live anyhow they like, yet have God perform miracles for them whenever they need it. I laugh when I encounter such people.

Jesus said that God is our Father and I know He prefers to be addressed as such. If you don't believe me, read Matthew 6:9. He taught His disciples to pray saying "Our Father". God wants man to fellowship with Him for who He is and not just for the miracles they can get from Him. Think about it, if God created man with the sole purpose of seeking Him for miracles, then the Garden of Eden would not have had everything man needed to survive.

If you don't have a relationship with God and you don't fellowship with Him regularly, then He is not your Father. His miracles are for His children only, so don't bother coming to Him for miracles.
The funny thing is that when sinners come to God just for miracles, they question His power when they don't get it. The problem however is with them and not God. The Bible says:
"If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:"
Psalm 66:18

Years ago, a woman was told that I have a special anointing for making the barren fruitful, so she attended one of our Conventions. In those days, we were not so many so I could lay hands on everybody with ease. When she came, I laid hands on her and she fell under the anointing. One year later, she returned complaining that in spite of my prayers, she was still barren. I was going to pray for her again when the Lord said, "Ask her how many boyfriends she has" If I didn't know the voice of God, it would have been difficult to ask because she was a rich and powerful woman. I mustered some courage and said "Errm... how many boyfriends do you have Ma?" "Six" she answered. I then said "You have a husband and you also have six boyfriends. How then can you expect the Holy One of Israel to give you a child?"

My Father's miracles are only for His children. Are you His child?

To qualify for a miracle, you must live a holy life.

*THEME: GUARD YOUR HEART.*

*MEMORISE:*
Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Proverbs 4:23

*BIBLE READING: PSALM 119:10-12*
10 With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments.

11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

12 Blessed art thou, O Lord: teach me thy statutes.

*MESSAGE:*
It is shocking how believers engage in all manner of conversations and associations carelessly. If you know the value of your heart, you would guard it jealously. In 2 Samuel 13 we see a classic case of what happens when a person does not guard his or her heart. Amnon who was prince and could have married any lady in the land lusted after his half-sister who was a virgin. He then engaged in a seemingly harmless conversation with a friend who watered the seed of evil already planted in his unguarded heart. The evil desire then blossomed and led to his untimely death in verses 28 and 29 of the same chapter. The man who advised him to r**e his sister is the same one who announced his death to David, his father (2 Samuel 13:32). Choose those you associate with wisely (Psalm 1:1).

Be careful of whom you listen to and be mindful of what you let into your heart. Jesus said in Matthew 5:8:

"Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God."

If you allow impurities to dwell in your heart, forget about ever seeing God.

In Matthew 12:34, Jesus said:

"... for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh."

In other words, your lifestyle and speech are an overflow of the meditation of your heart. Believers who listen to worldly music and also allow their children to listen to them are courting trouble. The result may not be instant, but it will accumulate and surely begin to yield ungodly fruits.

King David knew the secret to a clean heart, and he shared this in Psalm 119 :11:
"Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee."

Meditating on the Scriptures, listening to recordings of sound teachers of the gospel and keeping company with fellow believers are some of the primary ways through which we can keep our hearts guarded. You can only express what you have in your heart. Thus, if you constantly expose your heart to God's word, you would guard your heart from all forms of ungodliness. Motivational words cannot cure sinful thoughts, only the word of God can.

Fill your heart with the word of God.

*THEME: THE POWER IN A NAME*.

*MEMORISE*:
“That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;”
Philippians 2:10

9. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name;

10. That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

11. And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.


*MESSAGE*:
Many people wonder why names are important. Well, to start with, a name says a lot about the bearer. The Bible says that whatever Adam named the animals, that is what they were called (Genesis 2:19). What you are called has serious consequences on what you become.

When I was a lecturer at the University of Lagos, there was a Professor’s typist who everyone jokingly called Prof.

Whenever they called him Prof, he would smile and reply, “Yes, yes”. Then one day, he made a life changing decision. “I am a typist, but everybody calls me Professor. Then Professor I will become”. He then began to attend evening classes and little by little, he passed his exams and gained admission into the University. Before I left the University of Lagos, the typist was already studying for his Ph.D.

All these came about because a typist was called a Professor.

God takes names very seriously. In Genesis 17:5 He changed Abram’s name to Abraham, then in Genesis 17:15 He changed Sarai’s name to Sarah.

God also changed Jacob’s name as well in Genesis 32:28: And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel…

God changed their names when He wanted to promote them. He gave them new names that reflected what He wanted to make out of them. This teaches us that if we want to go to a new level, we should begin to bear the name for that level.

Just as we see in our Bible reading for today, God exalted Jesus by giving Him a name that is above every other.

What is the next level that you want to attain? Start bearing the name that reflects that new level from now.

However, if you think that you might get into trouble by asking people to call you that name, stand in front of your mirror and begin to call yourself that name as often as you can.

Some believers answer to funny nicknames that are not a reflection of who they want to be; worse still, some even call themselves such names in a bid to appear modest.

Don’t answer to such nicknames anymore. The name you answer to is what you will become.

What is the name that you are called? Is it a reflection of what you want to become? If not, change that name immediately.
