I came across the above comment under my post on the Holy Rosary, and I've seen many others echo similar concerns, it's a common point of discussion among believers.
Let's clarify this together, dear friend, with respect for your strong faith in Jesus as the way, truth, and life (John 14:6), which remains our shared foundation. Catholic devotion to Mary and the Rosary doesn't contradict that, it honors Jesus by meditating on His life through Scripture while asking His mother to pray with us, just as we request prayers from fellow Christians.
Scripture affirms Mother Mary's unique place without making Her God or equal to Jesus. At the Annunciation, the angel Gabriel calls Her "full of grace" (Luke 1:28), chosen by God to bear the Savior.
Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, declares Her "blessed among women" and "the mother of my Lord" (Luke 1:42-43), recognizing Her as Mother of God Incarnate.
Jesus Himself honors Her at Cana, responding to Her intercession by performing His first miracle, turning water into wine (John 2:1-11) a sign She brings our needs to Him.
The Rosary isn't "reciting to Mary" but a Christ-centered prayer that repeats verses straight from Scripture, like the Hail Mary, drawn from Luke 1:28 ("Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee") and Luke 1:42 ("Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus").
Its mysteries (Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious, Luminous) guide us to contemplate key Gospel events, from the Annunciation to the Resurrection, deepening our focus on Jesus' life, death, and victory. This meditative practice fulfills Jesus' call to "pray without ceasing"
Asking Mary (or saints) to pray for us aligns with biblical patterns of intercession among believers. Job prayed for his friends and God restored him (Job 42:10)
Paul urged Timothy to intercede for others (1 Timothy 2:1), saying such prayers are "good and acceptable in the sight of God."
Revelation shows Mother Mary in heaven, crowned and active with the saints (Rev 12:1), joining the chorus praising God.
If we can request prayers from Earthly men(Pastor, friends, loved ones) why can't we ask for Her heavenly intercessions 🤷🤷 as Jesus promises to grant prayers in His name (John 14:13-14), and Mother Mary's intercession at Cana models bringing needs to Him effectively, without bypassing Him.
Catholics don't pray "to Mother Mary as God" but honor Her as Jesus did (Exodus 20:12, "Honor your father and mother").
