An important reflection for every true believer.
ARE WE CHRISTIANS ONLY IN CHURCH?
One of the questions I think every Christian needs to ask themselves is:
If someone followed me for seven days outside the church, would they know that I am a Christian?
Not because of the Bible verses I post.
Not because of the church I attend.
Not because of the worship songs I sing.
Not because of the title I carry.
But because of the way I live.
It is easy to look like a Christian when we are surrounded by Christians. We know when to say “Praise the Lord,” when to lift our hands during worship, when to kneel in prayer, and when to quote Scripture.
But Christianity was never meant to be something we put on when we enter the church and take off when we leave.
Jesus said, “You are the light of the world.” Light is not useful only inside the church building. It is meant to shine wherever it is placed.
So what happens when we leave church?
How do we speak to our parents?
How do we treat our friends?
How do we respond when someone offends us?
How do we behave when we are angry?
How do we treat people who cannot give us anything in return?
What do we watch when nobody is around?
What do we post and comment on social media?
How honest are we when nobody can catch us?
How do we handle money that doesn't belong to us?
How do we behave when we have the opportunity to take advantage of someone?
That is where our Christianity is truly tested.
James 1:22 says, “Be doers of the word, and not hearers only.”
Sometimes, we spend so much time listening to sermons that we forget that the sermon is supposed to change the person listening.
We can know hundreds of Bible verses and still refuse to forgive.
We can sing about love while constantly treating people with hatred.
We can pray for hours and still deceive people.
We can preach holiness and secretly live a completely different life.
We can be very active in church and yet very distant from Christ.
And perhaps the most dangerous thing is that we can become so familiar with church that we mistake church activity for spiritual transformation.
Going to church is good.
Serving in church is good.
Singing in the choir is good.
Preaching is good.
Joining a department is good.
But none of these things automatically make us Christlike.
The question is not only “What do I do in church?”
The deeper question is:
“Who am I becoming because I follow Christ?”
Because Christianity is not merely about attending a place.
It is about becoming like Christ.
And honestly, I am not writing this as someone who has perfected everything. I am also examining myself.
Because sometimes, we are quick to ask other people whether they are living like Christians while forgetting to ask ourselves the same question.
Maybe the real revival we are praying for does not begin with a bigger church, a bigger program, or a louder worship service.
Maybe it begins with individuals allowing Christ to change the way they live when nobody is watching.
So, let us ask ourselves honestly:
If the church building disappeared tomorrow, would there still be enough evidence in our lives to prove that we belong to Christ?
Are we Christians only in church?
