Some pictures from the 2026 Cathedraticum of Ahiara Diocese: St Catherine's Deanery Ezi-East.

The Dean, Very Rev. Fr Dr Protase Anyanwu, priests, religious and lay faithful of St Catherine's Deanery Ezi-East gladly welcomed His Lordship, Most Rev. Dr Simeon Okezuo Nwobi, CMF, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ahiara, together with the entire priests, religious, lay faithful and friends of Ahiara Diocese, as they held their own 2026 Cathedraticum in St Catherine's Deanery.

The Bishop also blessed a beautiful Marian grotto built in memory of Isinze Sir Joseph Uduhirinwa & Lolo Grace Akajuru Nwamara, to the Glory of God.

Bishop Simeon Okezuo Nwobi, CMF, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ahiara, plays host to Bishop Victor Phalana of Klerksdorp Diocese in South Africa.

Bishop Phalana came into Mbaise, Imo State Nigeria, for the funeral of late Brother to Fr Ignatius Okoroji, SDV, and paid a courtesy visit to our Bishop. Both bishops shared fraternal moments as they interacted with the younger sets of Ahiara Priests who happened to be having their ongoing formation seminar at the Chancery, facilitated by Very Rev. Fr Dr Anthony Chukwuemeka Anyanwu.

Life indeed is only but a stage. Very Rev. Fr Sabinus Iwu, SMMM, Rector and former seminary bursar, is captured here (c. 37th minute) on livestream hale and hearty on the Ahiara Diocesan page, preaching at a funeral Mass in his home parish of St Gregory's Umuhu Okwuato, Aboh Mbaise LGA, Imo State, just two days ago, Saturday, 18 April 2026. By early Monday, 20 April 2026, Fr 'Sagacious' is gone.

May your priestly soul rest in peace, dear Fr Sabinus. May the good Lord whom you served so well grant you pardon, light and joy in his Kingdom. Amen.

Obituary announcement for Fr Sabinus Iwu, SMMM, Rector and former seminary bursar.

Very Rev. Fr Sabinus Iwu SMMM, Rector of the Sons of Mary Mother of Mercy Theologate Ulakwo, Owerri Imo State, has taken the ultimate bow. Fr 'Saga' slept in the Lord on Monday, 20 April 2026. He was previously the bursar of Seat of Wisdom Seminary Owerri, Imo State. As shocking as his sudden death is, we resign to God's will and providence.

We sincerely condole with his biological family, the Umuhu Okwuato Mbaise Catholic Community and the Congregation of the Sons of Mary Mother of Mercy (SMMM) over this sad loss.

Please keep our brother in your prayers as well as his biological family and the SMMM family.

May the soul of Fr Sabinus Iwu, SMMM, and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.

Accolades have continued to pour in for Rev. Fr Amb. Chigozie MaryKemdi Nwigwe, SDV, DIST-FiGPCM, LGPM, LGPD, LMN, CGPA.

Having passed the professional examinations of the Institute of Global Peace and Conflict Management, an affiliate of the Protestant University of West Africa, in the prescribed areas covered by the licence, Fr Nwigwe has now attained the highest degree of the institute - Distinguished Fellow.

This attainment is approved by the Federal Ministries of Education and Justice in Nigeria, accredited by the American Council of Training and Development, and endorsed by both the Protestant University of West Africa and the Institut Universitaire du Benin.

By this induction into the Global Peace Hall of Fame, the awardee is now designated thus: Rev. Fr. Amb. Chigozie MaryKemdi Nwigwe, SDV, DIST-FiGPCM, LGPM, LGPD, LMN, CGPA {Distinguished Fellow, Institute of Global Peace and Conflict Management (DIST-FiGPCM); Licensed Global Peacekeeping Missionary (LGPM); Licenced Global Peacekeeping Diplomat (LGPD); Licenced Mediator and Negotiator(LMN); Certified Global Peace Ambassador (CGPA)}.

Former Vicar General of Ahiara Diocese, Very Rev. Fr Dr Ethelbert Uwadoka, aged 73 years, slated for burial 5th May 2026.

Born 3 October 1953, and ordained by Pope St John Paul II the Great on 14 February 1982, when the Pope visited Nigeria for the first time, Fr Uwadoka heeded the heavenly call on Friday, 20 March 2026. In addition to other ecclesiastical roles he played as a priest for over four decades, he was a long time formator at Seat of Wisdom Seminary Owerri, Imo State, and later Vicar General of Ahiara Diocese.

Fr Uwadoka will be sorely missed for his pristine dedication to the priesthood, his selfless and sacrificial lifestyle, and his calm, reflective, and piercing demeanour.

Funeral schedule:
Monday, 4 May 2026: 4pm Vigil Mass @ his last parish of assignment, St Paul's Catholic Parish Egbelu Umuhu Enyiogugu.

Tuesday, 5 May 2026:
11am Requiem Mass @ Mater Ecclesiae Cathedral, Ahiara Mbaise.

Interment follows immediately after Mass at the Priests' cemetery inside the cathedral premises.

May the soul of Fr Ethelbert Uwadoka and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.
