Spiritual Intelligence by Dooyum Akume

There are different ways by which human Intelligence is measured. There is the normal everyday intelligence (measured as a quotient/magnitude, IQ) which is defined as the ability to understand or deal with new trying situations or the ability to apply knowledge to manipulate one's environment.

Emotional intelligence (measured also as a quotient EQ) is the capacity to be aware of, control, and express one's emotions, and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically.

Spiritual Intelligence otherwise referred to as Understanding is having a capacity for deep, spiritual comprehension and insight into the truths and teachings of God. It is more than just acquiring knowledge; it involves grasping the deeper meaning and significance of God's Word and applying it to our lives.

When we have understanding, we are able to discern God's will, make wise decisions, and live in alignment with His purposes for our lives. Understanding helps us navigate life's challenges and strengthens our faith, enabling us to grow in our relationship with God and be a light to others.

Spiritual Intelligence starts with a clear understanding of who God is, how you relate with Him, the basis for your relationship with Him (are you using Him or is your relationship beyond what you can get from him?). It is followed by a close walk with the Holy Spirit.

As we progress in the weeks following, we will with God's help discuss this more elaborately.

You could however choose to join us every Tuesday 4:30pm at Kâbôd: the Resting place , 1st Floor, Hephzibah Plaza, Opposite International Primary School, High Level, Makurdi.

Lifted by Holiness by Dooyum Akume

The term Holy is sometimes used as a synonym for Righteous and this misuse causes more damage to our faith than we realize. The misunderstanding of the difference between the new and old testament idea of righteousness also causes christians to live in defeat when our victory has already been assured.

In the old testament, righteousness was based on our ACTS as seen in Deut 6:25 And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the Lord our God, as he hath commanded us. Whereas, in the new, it is a GIFT. Deut 6:25 And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the Lord our God, as he hath commanded us.

In the old testament, once you were holy, you attained righteousness but the same does not hold presently. Now one can be righteous without being holy. To be holy means to be sacred, consecrated, dedicated, set apart.

We are commanded to be holy in Lev19:2, 20:26 and several other portions of scripture. As a matter of fact, it is the unspoken standard the world holds us to. This is why people express dismay when a Christian is found acting like an unbeliever.

What are the benefits of living a holy life? For the sake of brevity, I will say only two things, listing one and slightly expound on the other. Holiness breeds a clear conscience before God and man. Holiness is attained through obedience and whem your obedience is complete, you are now in readiness to revenge all disobedience (everything that negates God's word in your life and others).
2 Cor 10:3-6

You have a choice in this matter. Would you live life trying to conform to your environment or would you choose life? CHOOSE LIFE!

The Energies for Rising II by Dooyum Akume

Continuing from where we left off last time, we we said that the kind of prayer that makes power available or produces power and them results is the consistent kind that odes not cease until the answer manifests.

An interesting story is told of Elijah in James 5:17 - 18 how he prayed earnestly that it might not rain and it didn't for the space of three and a half years and he prayed again and it rained.

It is however not told like that in 1Kg 17 and 18. In chapter 17, he simply proclaimed that it would not rain and it didn't. We see later on in James that that proclamation was birthed in the place of dogged prayer.

In 1Kg18:1 God told Elijah to show himself to Ahab consequent upon which He would send rain upon the Earth. Further reading would reveal that it didn't quite play out like that (this was an abbreviated version of what transpired).

Elijah went and after all the ensuing drama he had to go and pray for seven unbroken hours. Before he saw something that looked like the beginning of the answer to his prayers. What if he had become exasperated? And even after all those hours of prayer he only saw a token of what looked like the answer to his all his prayers.

When you pray for unbroken hours and through many trying periods and for so long, it starts to look like a futile exercise. Like Jesus asked in Lk18:8, when the son of man shows up, would He find faith on the earth? (will he find you still believing, would you still be praying)?

RISING BY BEING LED by Dooyum Akume

To ascend is not an automatic action especially in spiritual matters. It requires deliberate steps in the direction of our desires. Fortunately for us, God not only promised to always be with us Heb 13:5, He also promised to teach and guide us Ps 32:8. In either case, our active participation is required.

God has indeed promised to lead us however, it is our responsibility to take time to learn how we are led so as to follow more effectively.

In Gen 12, God appeared to Abram and blessed him to be a blessing, shortly after that, there was a famine in the land and without consulting God, he went down to Egypt. Hagar was Satan's set up for Sarai/Abram when he chose to go to Egypt without consulting God in the famine. He went out of Egypt with great wealth simply because God had chosen to bless Him, this particular blessing was tainted by a man's choice in acting presumptuously. By chapter 16:1-3, the trap was sprung and here we are dealing with the aftereffects.

In Gen 26: 1 - 14, we read how Isaac sowed (planted a farm) in a famine and got something out, actually, a 100% return on investment because he heard God! There will be times when God will warn us before we take action, other times, He expects us to seek His counsel.

In 1 Sam 4:2 - 11, a story is told of how Israel was joined in battle against the Philistines and were defeated. Without consulting God their elders presumptuously brought the ark of the covenant to battle simply because of its history in battle. Not only was it captured, several people lost their lives including the priests! Wouldn't you rather be led?

The benefits of imbibing the word as a major tool for being led are seen vividly in Ps 119. We can also be led by the spirit of God but in both instances, the duty of care so to speak is on us.

Ascending:rising or increasing to higher levels, values, or degrees has been promised us this this year. Effort, consistent effort is required on our part. May God's mercy help you to take advantage of all the tools made available through grace and cause you to rise all round in Jesus name.

SOWING FAVOUR, REAPING THE UNSEEN by Dooyum Akume

Remember we said earlier that we will consider favour as friendly regard, gracious kindness or any effort in one's behalf, or one's interest to a personal advantage

Our discussion today is based on being willing to be the one God will use to lift another and not necessarily doing it in a transactional manner. For, whether you have reward as your motive or not, Gal 6:7 will play out.

When Abraham sent Eliezer of Damascus to get a wife for Isaac, his criteria was someone who would be willing to not only give him water but also for his camels. I think camels are the thirstiest animals on earth. Gen 24:17 - 20, Rebekah not only gave Eliezer water, she HASTED to give to the camels also and without been asked. That act of kindness got her married to a forefather of Jesus. How was she to know the ripple effect of her actions?

In Josh 6, Rahab preserved the lives of spies sent to work against her city. She must have recog.ized the hamd of God. She chose to be on God's side and not only hid the spies but have invaluable advice on how to escape their pursuers. In the process of time, she also became a forbear of Jesus. It woll be preposterous to think she had that reward in mind. Sometimes the full extent of our rewards can only be revealed by time. Be kind, show favour.

In Ruth 4 Ruth could have chosen to stay behind in Moab I'm yhe place of her nativity, she chose to show kindness to her mother in-law by return to the land of Israel. Boaz chose to show her kindness; he being a very eligible bachelor, married her a foreign widow. They are the grandparents of Jesse the father of David et Cetera.

Kindness, showing favour may seem to cost you but be sure that it will lift you up this year. We are gemwrally more eager to favour the rich, well to do, advantaged in society. We can never tell who will be what tomorrow. Sow favour generally and specifically as led. This year will surprise you in Jesus name.

Obtaining favour and growing therein by Dooyum Akume

Having discussed previously the benefits of favour in our lives, I think it only follows that we should discuss how to obtain and grow in it. It is true that some are born with favour but majority have to obtain it. It also exists in measures and therefore can increase as well as decrease.

From the scripture we looked at last week, Matthew 26:53, we saw that Jesus had the kind of favour that could summon over seventy two thousand angels at once. How did he get there? Jhn 5:30 says He NEVER did anything on His own. He only copied what his Father did.

Add that to Ph 2:8 which tells of His complete obedience resulting in death, willing death and you will come to the certain conclusion that selfless and consistent obedience without a thought to self preservation or boosting one's reputation is a key to obtaining and growing in God's favour.

In Ez 14:13-20, we read of the special favour that three men, Noah, Daniel and Job obtained from God. Noah did byvhos stance for righteousness regardless of the prevailing decadence of his age. Daniel stood for God at the risk of his life in a HIGHLY demonized society. Job was afflicted, his friends ridiculed him, his wife goaded him to curse God and die.

All three sided with God at the risk of their reputation and even their lives. You too wilp be faced with the same situations ut maybe with differing scenarios. Your choices define who's side you are on.

Added to the the above, Proverbs 13:15 KJV says, Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard. An understamding of how to behave, when to speak and when not to, what to say and what never to say. Your character can bring you favour or otherwise.

The last thing we will discuss on this subject is giving and prayer. Solomon has been reputed to have given a thousand cattle, he prayed, that night God Himself came with a blank cheque! What awesome favour. Cornelius gave, he prayed, an angel showed up amd his was the first interaction of the Holy Spirit with a Gentile person. What favour!

You too can get and increase in favour with God and man to the extent that you follow yhe examples above.

May grace be your to play your part and choose right. May favour uon favour attend to you, causimg a liftimg for you like no other year before now in Jesus name.

We meet every Tuesday 4:30pm @ 1st Floor, Hephzibah Plaza, Opposite Makurdi International Primary School, High Level, Makurdi.
