DAILY MANNA, MONDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2017

NO REVISION, PLEASE!

TEXT: PSALM 119:89-96

KEY VERSE: “I have seen an end of all perfection: but Thy commandment is exceeding broad” (Psalm 119:96)

Man’s imperfection has reflected several times in all the enterprise he has undertaken over the centuries. He would jettison his writings and inventions for subsequent updated versions he calls the final solution. Yet, the updated version is discovered to have some dotted lines to be filled. It is an endless cycle of revisions, amendments, rejections and replacements.

This is not so with the Holy Bible, authored by God. He used several instruments ranging from lawgivers, prophets, military leaders and judges, kings, priests, fishermen, apostles and even women who all wrote in different ages spanning several centuries while exploring numerous themes that nevertheless led to one objective: the plan of God to save fallen man through Jesus Christ His Son.

The psalmist insists that only a perfect God could have welded such disparate writings into a work that stands out and would not admit errors requiring revisions. He declares in verse 89 of the text that God’s word which we call the Holy Bible is firmly established in heaven, the perfect abode of the perfect God. Armed with this knowledge, the psalmist declares that he has no fear of the tantrums of the wicked set to destroy him. He says he will rest in the safe promises of the Word to subdue evil people. In other words, he will overcome the limitations of man-made inventions, decrees and threats with the boundless and matchless grace and power of God’s promises to protect those who believe in Him as revealed in His Word.

God has not reneged on showing mercy to the penitent sinner who comes to Him for pardon and protection. He makes this explicitly clear in John 6:37. He will not reject those who come to Him and trusts His Word which “shall not pass away” without fulfillment.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY: Count on God’s eternal Word for eternal life.
THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: ISAIAH 22-25.

PONDER:
1. Think of a world, family or Church without the Bible. Do you think you can live in such a world and be happy?
2. Your love for God is reflected in the amount of quality time you personally devote to the study of God's word. Do you want to increase in His love or are you satisfied?

HYMN: The Bible stands

1The Bible stands like a rock undaunted
'Mid the raging storms of time;
Its pages burn with the truth eternal,
And they glow with a light sublime.

Chorus:
The Bible stands tho' the hills may tumble,
It will firmly stand when the earth shall crumble;
I will plant my feet on its firm foundation,
For the Bible stands,
The Bible stands.

2 The Bible stands like a mountain tow'ring
Far above the works of man;
Its truth by none ever was refuted,
And destroy it they never can. (Chorus)

3 The Bible stands and it will forever,
When the world has passed away;
By inspiration it has been given,
All its precepts I will obey. (Chorus)

4 The Bible stands every test we give it,
For its Author is divine;
By grace alone I will expect to live it,
And to prove it and make it mine. (Chorus)

PRAYER POINTS
1. Take time to worship and appreciate God for the gift of the Bible and its divine preservation.
2. Lord, remove every form of spiritual cataract, deafness and hardness of heart that may not be allowing your word to have 100% fruitfulness in my life.
3. I want to give more time to the study of Your Word. I want you to be speaking to me personally through the word and cause me to be growing in grace and knowledge.
4. Let the ministry of the word in the Church be bearing multiple fold fruits in the hearts of the hearers. All stony, thorny, roadside hearts in the church should be transformed to a good receptive fruit bearing hearts in Jesus' name.

ONLY THE BEST.

TEXT: Numbers 18: 20-32.

KEY VERSE: “ Out of all your gifts ye shall offer every heave offering of the Lord, of all the best thereof, even the hallowed part thereof out of it ” ( Numbers 18:29).

A story is told of a thirteen-year old girl who listened intently to her pastor's sermon about God's love in giving the best gift of His Son to die for everyone. He spoke about the love of Jesus who willingly offered His life on the Cross for our sins. The girl's heart was deeply touched by what she heard. She had no money, so it seemed as though she had nothing to give to the Lord. Then, she thought of a gift that would please God very much. When the usher passes the offering plate, she whispered to him, " Please lower the offering plate." He lowered it. She kept requesting the plate to be lowered until it reached the floor. Then, she stepped into the offering plate and stood in it. She was giving the Lord the very best gift she could ever afford. She was giving herself to the Lord!

Like the Levites in today's text, believers are to give their best as hallowed gifts to the Lord ( 1Peter 2:9). As a song writer, Howard Benjamin Grose captured it in a hymn, " Give of your best to the Mast; Give Him the strength of your youth; Throw your soul's fresh, glowing ardour; Into the battle for truth." Believers are to offer their best unto the Lord. Jesus proved His love by giving us the best - His life.

We must give Him our all - heart, life, time, talents and treasures. This can be done through total obedience to His words; we must preach the gospel, share His love, be devoted and consecrated, teach, model and mentor the old and young until Christ is formed in them. Then, you will experience more of His transforming and satisfying love.

THOUGHTS FOR TODAY: True happiness consists in giving to and serving the Lord.
THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: ISAIAH 13-17.

PONDER: Check and think through whether you are giving the best of your time, talent, and your resources to the Master. If not, a decision can be made today

HYMN: Give of your best to the Master.

1. Give of your best to the Master;
Give of the strength of your youth;
Throw your soul’s fresh, glowing ardor
Into the battle for truth.
Jesus has set the example,
Dauntless was He, young and brave;
Give Him your loyal devotion;
Give Him the best that you have.

Refrain:
Give of your best to the Master;
Give of the strength of your youth;
Clad in salvation’s full armor,
Join in the battle for truth.

2. Give of your best to the Master;
Give Him first place in your heart;
Give Him first place in your service;
Consecrate every part.
Give, and to you will be given;
God His beloved Son gave;
Gratefully seeking to serve Him,
Give Him the best that you have.

3. Give of your best to the Master;
Naught else is worthy His love;
He gave Himself for your ransom,
Gave up His glory above.
Laid down His life without murmur,
You from sin’s ruin to save;
Give Him your heart’s adoration;
Give Him the best that you have.

PRAYER POINTS
1. Mention those areas in your life that you are not giving your best and consecrate that things will change from today.
2. Ask for a perfect love for God that doing His will will be your priority.
3. Ask God that He will work on His children so that there will be deeper consecration as in the days of old.
4. Work on our attitude towards giving to pastors fellow believers that we will all be giving cheerfully.

DAILY MANNA, FRIDAY NOVEMBER 3, 2017

HE NEVER FAILS.

TEXT: 2 SAMUEL 22: 11-23.

KEY VERSE: “ They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the LORD was my stay ” (2 Samuel 22:19).

David Livingstone, the foremost missionary to Africa, confidently proclaimed, " I go through the hazards of Africa and Jesus is by my side... without Christ, not one step; with Him, anywhere!" Ruth Bryan, the virtuous Puritan author wrote " My precious Jesus is my rest and refreshing, in all my weariness. As I lean on Him, I triumph!"

In our text, David spoke of how God delivered him from all his enemies and upheld him in times of trouble. David triumphed because he was obedient to God's statutes and made the Lord his Companion in time of trouble. Records abound of many saints of old who greatly enjoyed and testified to the steadfastness of Christ's companionship, especially when all human help proved worthless.

It is futile to try to seek true companionship in money, position, power, occultism, materialism or alcoholism. A wealthy business tycoon once let out his frustration thus: " I have everything money can buy except peace of mind". A celebrity regretted that " I had my ways of hiding my pain - laughing when there was nothing to laugh at; smiling when there was nothing to smile about. That was just my way of getting through life. Pretending like everything was okay. I guess I did it so well that I really began to believe it. I fooled myself. Using my escapism was my thing not to feel my pain - whatever would numb the pain... just because you have money doesn't mean you can't feel worthless, just because people consider you beautiful doesn't mean that you feel that way..."

Anyone - father, mother, siblings, spouse, children, neighbours, friends and some church members - can disappoint when one needs them most due to inherent limitations in terms of ability, knowledge, understanding and resources. But Jesus will never fail you; He does not have such limitations.

THOUGHTS FOR TODAY: When all you have is God, then you have all you need.
THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: ISAIAH 9-12.

PONDER: Reflect on the great things God did for David and the conditions he met in the text and observe God's dealings with you is the same.

HYMN: Rejoice in the Lord

1Rejoice in the Lord! O let His mercy, cheer,
He sunders the bands that enthral;
Redeemed by His blood, why should we ever fear,
Since Jesus is our “all in all?”

Refrain:
“If God be for us, if God be for us,
If God be for us,
Who can be against us,
Who, who, who?
Who can be against us, against us?”

2 Be strong in the Lord! Rejoicing in His might,
Be loyal and true day by day;
When evils assail, be valiant for the right,
And He will be our strength, our stay. [Refrain]

3 Confide in His Word, His promises so sure;
In Christ they are “yea, and amen”;
Tho’ earth pass away, they ever shall endure,
‘Tis written o’er and o’er again. [Refrain]

4 Abide in the Lord, secure in His control,
‘Tis life everlasting begun;
To pluck from His hand the weakest, trembling soul,
It never, never can be done! [Refrain]

PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord I praise you for delivering me from the wicked in all my journeys with you.
2. Give me faith and power that supersede the strength of my adversaries.
3. Let your fire of the Holy Spirit be in me and surround me so that I will be a threat to my adversaries.
4. Deliver the ministers in the church from their strong enemies that threaten their effectiveness in service.
