ZOI TEENS- THURSDAY 28/08/24.
TOPIC: RESPECT.
SCRIPTURE: Romans 12:10.
“Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honour”.
There was a girl who lived with her aunt. Her aunt loved her so dearly that, she handed over most of the household activities into her care to oversee. There was also a young man, whose father had died and the same aunt also took him in to help him.
Now being a busy person, their aunt wasn’t always around which left everyone in the house at the mercy of this young lady. She became power drunk and tormented the lives of the others. She would starve anyone for unnecessary reasons and speak very rudely and disrespect everyone. Eventually, the young man left and excelled in life. He became the manager of a big company, and returned home to greet his aunt.
Meanwhile, the girl who was disrespectful also graduated and was actively looking for a job. When they met each other at the house, she was still the same disrespectful lady but all of a sudden, she started showering this young man with honour and asked for a position in his company. Now, remembering how this lady treated him and the others, even watching how she was still behaving, by being selectively respectful, he gave the slot to someone else. He wouldn’t want such a person to corrupt the company or treat people badly around him.
There is nothing to gain from disrespect other than strife and loosing God's blessings. Many are selective with who they honour, but the Bible clearly states in the book of Peter to honour everyone.
“Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the emperor” (1 Peter 2:17).
We cannot afford to be selective in respecting others because in truth, we do not know who is who in the eyes of the Lord. For whosoever you honour, you honour God in return and then yourself. We do not give respect to gain something in return, it is simply an act of kindness and obedience to God's word that promotes peace and blessings upon our lives. Even a little child loves to be recognized and honoured. Respect should be given to everyone irrespective of their status.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father I thank you for your word today, help me to honour you, my family and everyone I come in contact with in Jesus Name, Amen.
