When God wants to use a man, your background is not a limitation.
Apostle Alabi Ola Solution
Text: Judges 6:11–16; 1 Corinthians 1:26–29; Jeremiah 1:4–10

One of the greatest deceptions of the enemy is to convince people that their background is stronger than God’s purpose for their lives. Many have abandoned their calling, buried their gifts, and settled for less because they believe where they came from determines where they can go. But throughout the Scriptures, God consistently demonstrates that He is not limited by a person’s family history, social status, education, past failures, or present condition. When God decides to use a man, He does not begin with his background; He begins with His purpose.

The story of Gideon is one of the clearest examples of this truth. Israel had fallen into sin, and because of their disobedience, they were oppressed by the Midianites for seven years. The nation lived in fear. Whenever they planted crops, the Midianites invaded and destroyed everything, leaving Israel impoverished and discouraged. Gideon was found threshing wheat in a winepress, hiding from the enemy. There was nothing about his situation that suggested greatness. He was not standing on a battlefield as a warrior but hiding as a fearful man trying to preserve a little food for his family.

Yet when the Angel of the Lord appeared to him, He did not speak according to Gideon’s condition. He spoke according to God’s purpose. The angel declared, “The Lord is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.” Gideon could not understand those words because all he could see was his weakness, his fear, and his insignificant family. His response revealed how deeply he had been affected by his background: “My family is the poorest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.”

Gideon believed that his family background disqualified him, but God was not interested in Gideon’s opinion of himself. Heaven had already decided his destiny. God was not looking at his father’s house; He was looking at the deliverer hidden inside him. This is the mystery of divine calling. God sees what man cannot see. While people judge by appearance, family name, education, wealth, or reputation, God judges according to His eternal purpose.

Many people today are still making the same mistake Gideon made. They keep introducing themselves by their limitations instead of introducing themselves by God’s promises. They say they were born into poverty, that no one in their family has ever succeeded, that they come from an idol-worshipping home, that they have no connections, no education, or no opportunities. Yet none of these things have ever prevented God from fulfilling His purpose. Every limitation that men celebrate is simply another opportunity for God to reveal His power.

God has never depended on human qualification to accomplish divine assignments. Moses was a fugitive when God called him from the burning bush. David was a forgotten shepherd boy when Samuel poured the anointing oil upon his head. Joseph was rejected by his brothers and sold into slavery before he became a ruler in Egypt. Jephthah was rejected because of his birth, yet he became a mighty deliverer in Israel. Rahab was known as a pr******te, but she became part of the genealogy of Jesus Christ. Peter was an ordinary fisherman before becoming one of the pillars of the early Church. Paul was a persecutor of Christians before becoming one of the greatest apostles. These examples prove that God is not intimidated by a person’s past. His grace is greater than every human failure.

The greatest obstacle to destiny is often not the enemy but the wrong perception people have about themselves. Gideon saw himself as weak, but God saw him as mighty. Jeremiah saw himself as a child, but God saw him as a prophet to the nations. Moses saw himself as someone who could not speak well, but God saw him as the man who would confront Pharaoh. Your opinion about yourself may be shaped by your experiences, but God’s opinion is established by His purpose.

When God chooses a man, He also gives him the grace to fulfill the assignment. Divine calling always comes with divine empowerment. God never calls people because they are already able; He calls them because He is able. The strength for the journey comes from the One who sends them. That is why the Lord told Gideon, “Surely I will be with thee.” The secret of every successful calling is not human ability but God’s presence.

There are people whose family history is filled with failure, disappointment, idolatry, and hardship. Some were born into homes where no one served God. Others grew up without opportunities or support. Yet when the hand of God comes upon a life, history begins to change. One encounter with God can rewrite generations of failure. One act of obedience can break a cycle that has lasted for decades. One person surrendered to God can become the answer to an entire family and even a nation.

Your background may explain where you started, but it cannot decide where God will take you. Your family may not have produced great men before, but God can begin a new chapter through your life. The poverty you experienced is not your identity. The rejection you suffered is not your destiny. The mistakes of yesterday are not the final story of your life. The God who called Gideon from fear to leadership, Joseph from the prison to the palace, David from the sheepfold to the throne, and Peter from the fishing boat to the upper room is still calling men and women today.

Do not allow your background to become an excuse for remaining where you are. Do not let the opinions of men silence the voice of God over your life. Heaven has never been limited by earthly circumstances. When God decides to lift a man, no family curse can stop Him. No ancestral history can frustrate His purpose. No lack of education can hinder His wisdom. No rejection can cancel His calling. No weakness can overpower His strength.

Always remember that God specializes in choosing unlikely people so that all the glory will belong to Him. If your life can only be explained by your qualifications, then men will praise you. But when your life can only be explained by the grace of God, then God alone receives the glory.

Therefore, refuse to be imprisoned by your past. Refuse to be defined by your family history. Refuse to measure yourself by human standards. Lift your eyes to God, believe His Word, and walk boldly into your calling. The God who called Gideon is still looking for men and women who will trust Him beyond their limitations. When God wants to use a man, his background becomes nothing more than the platform upon which God’s glory is revealed. Let your life become the evidence that God’s purpose is greater than your past, His grace is stronger than your weakness, and His calling is higher than every limitation.

"He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the beggar from the ash heap, to set them among princes and make them inherit the throne of glory. For the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s, and He has set the world upon them."- 1 Samuel 2:8

God is not only interested in changing your position, but He is also committed to preparing your character for where He is taking you.

A person lifted from the dust and seated among princes does not arrive there casually. There is a process of preparation, pruning, training, and transformation that must take place before glory can be stewarded well.

That is why your total submission to God’s process is essential. The Lord trains those He intends to use greatly. He develops strength, maturity, endurance, humility, and spiritual depth within them.

You must therefore yield yourself to the dealings of God and the consecration your destiny requires. Embrace the work of the Spirit that weakens the grip of the flesh. Allow God to deal with pride, fear, greed, lust, insecurity, self-exaltation, and every appetite that cannot accompany you into your next season.

As you walk with Him, your desires are purified, your character is strengthened, and your life becomes aligned with His purpose.

Do not quit midway through the process.

Scripture says, “Endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ” (2 Timothy 2:3). There may be seasons that feel uncomfortable, hidden, stretching, or painful but God wastes nothing. Every season of pruning produces capacity for greater glory.

So allow Him to cut away excess. Let Him shape you. Let Him refine your motives and deepen your dependence on Him. The chiseling may be uncomfortable, but the outcome will reflect His glory.

Trust the wisdom of God as He forms your life into a unique kingdom expression. God is wise. And He knows exactly what is required to prepare you for the throne He has destined you to occupy.

So do not resist the process. Submit to it. Grow and endure through it. And in due season, God Himself will lift you.

One man’s gift is a seed; another man’s support is the rain that makes it grow.
