THE PLACE OF USHERING MINISTRY
The church is the house of God and because God we serve a God who is not an author of confusion but a God who is orderly and organized( 1cor. 14:40).
It is therefore, pertinent that the church service are well organized and order is duly observed.
The ushering ministry is offen underestimated and even belittle by many people probably due to lack of knowledge and understanding of the scope and relevancy of the ministry.
As a matter of fact, many don't see not to even talk of categorising it as a ministry.
The question now is what is an usher in regard to the church wall.
An usher is a spiritual ambassador for the local church. God's ordained and organized body of believers. The church usher is a first representative of Jesus Christ for a worship service.
Ushering is an act of service that direct people into fellowship with God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is a most worthy ministry to reckoned with.
The ushers are saddled with the responsibilities of ensuring orderliness, security and the smooth running of church services.
The ushering are seen as the extension of the pastor hand as they provide the first impression of the church and the ministry of the pastor. Even ushers are called men of God(Jer. 35:4).
The issue of ushering does not begin with the new testament church, it has been there from the time of old testament.
Ushers in the old testament church are known as Tabernacle and temple doorkeepers. Even a whole king in the Bible called David longs and reference the ministry of ushering (Psalms 84:4 & 10).
In the days of Jesus, the disciples were seen serving as an usher in many meetings. They offen direct people who came to hear Jesus speak and to be touched by his hand.
Do you remember one occasion where Jesus rebuke the disciples (Acting as ushers) who tried to depraved the children from coming to him(Luke. 18:16).
It was the disciples that also organized the people, although Jesus supplied the miraculous loaves of bread and fishes but it was disciples that served the hungry multitude. Even many of the seven deacons appointed by the apostles were both preachers and ushers.
It is Crystal clear that preachers, teachers and even music ministers do minister to people in groups but ushers minister to individuals.
You will agree that not all have easy access to meet with pastors and even music ministers but everyone can have an access to an usher. It
Preaching can at times be omitted and classes can be dismissed but there is no substitute for the ministry of ushering. Any church that negate the place of the ministry of ushering miss out a huge opportunity to reach people. Without an ushering ministry, the church will be incomplete and live in disorder.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF USHERING MINISTRY
* Manning the church entrance and church auditorium.
* Identifying visitors ministers, special guest, church visitors and ensuring they're attended to appropriately
* Logistics and formalities during special programs
* Creating a friendly and welcoming atmosphere during church meetings
* Welcome worshippers, usher them to their seats, show kindness and care to those in need of physical support
* Ensuring orderliness during church meetings.
Note: The overall role of an usher is reaching, impacting and touching people lives.
