SECOND LESSON MATTHEW 3:13-
TOPIC: NEW LIFE IN CHRIST (THE BAPTISM )
CCC HYMN:: Hymn 406 STANZA 3. In the depth of the Red sea Pharaoh and all his army, all perished and woke no more, for Israelites, peacefulness when all hope was exhausted, Sea transformed into dry land, with such powers, Lead us into life everlasting.
The first lesson provided how God led the Israelites by the way of the Red Sea not because there’s no other way but the Bible purposely states that God took them by the way of the Red Sea pointing a prophetic picture centuries before Jesus Christ would walk to river Jordan to be baptized by John the Baptist
The Israelites had lived a sinful life for over 430 years in Egypt before God raised Moses to bring them out of their bo***ge
the life they lived in Egypt was the life of sin so God wanted them to live a new life so he sent Moses to deliver them this is a typical example when God sent Jesus to deliver us from the bo***ge of sin whereby to live a new life in Christ one must first undergo Baptism which was the reason why Jesus before he started his ministry did baptism
He told Nicodemus in John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Nicodemus an John 3:4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?
John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
Jesus gave Nicodemus the theology of baptism and the significance
Going under the water is an emblem of burial. It represents the end of your old story. It is a declaration that your old nature—the one bound by sin, guilt, and shame—has been put to death. It is the definitive statement that you are no longer a slave to your past.
Your identity is no longer defined by your mistakes, your habits, or your failures. When you come up from the water, you are raised with a completely new identity. You are a new creation. The power of sin has been broken, and you are now a beloved child of God.
Paul the Apostle gave a notation in Romans 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
Romans 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Baptism is to live a life of obedience to God this is what Jesus our Lord told John by saying Matthew 3:15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
This was what God so in Christ that the voice came unto him saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Who ever keeps the commandments of God is a beloved child God
John 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
baptism is a powerful call to identity and obedience. It highlights three core truths: it fulfills the command of Christ, symbolizes our death and resurrection in Him, and serves as an outward declaration of our new life.
