Spiritual gifts are God’s potentials endowed upon each believer at conversion. The gifts are meant to enhance the development and stability of the moral character of individuals, as well as help in the propagation of Christian faith. The process requires self-determination to keep growing in the face of daunting life-challenges.

In today’s Bible passage, Apostle Paul reminds Timothy, his beloved son, about the need to pursue personal spiritual growth. To ensure spiritual fervency, Timothy, like every committed believer in Christ Jesus, was encouraged to engage in daily reading; studying and meditation on the Scripture; participate in spiritual warfare through prayer and fasting; be practical in the choice of friends and relationship to keep, among others.

Apostle Paul teaches about improving and developing the gifts of God, when he wrote to the church at Colossae, “As you receive Christ Jesus as Lord, be rooted and built up in him, strengthen in the faith as ye have been taught.” your gift must be put into use on daily basis, and never to be allowed to become dormant or passive. Every trusted believer in the Lord Jesus Christ is mandated to utilize his or her gifts maximally.

Insight: Do not neglect your God-given gifts. Use them to benefit humanity and glorify God.
