BEWARE OF WEARINESS AND DISCOURAGEMENT
"Now Ahithophel urged Absalom, “Let me choose 12,000 men to start out after David tonight. I will catch up with him while he is weary and discouraged. He and his troops will panic, and everyone will run away. Then I will kill only the king, and I will bring all the people back to you as a bride returns to her husband. After all, it is only one man’s life that you seek. Then you will be at peace with all the people.” This plan seemed good to Absalom and to all the elders of Israel."
2 Samuel 17:1-4 NLT.
The Webster Dictionary defined the word "weary" as being "exhausted in strength, endurance, vigor, or freshness". And the word "discourage" as "to deprive of courage or confidence : DISHEARTEN".
These two words are very powerful tools in the hand of the enemy. Ahitophel made Absalom to know that the best time to hit David was in his moment of weariness and discouragement. I want you to know that the enemy is looking for that moment when you are exhausted in your strength, when you can no longer endure, when you have lost vigour, or freshness. The enemy wants to hit you at that time when you are discouraged. Friend, don't give him that opportunity. It's alright to be weary as human or to be discouraged. But you have to grow past that level now. David, the scripture says "encouraged himself in the Lord."
Paul the Apostle said, "Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus."(2 Timothy 2:3 NLT). Child of God, you are called to endure hardness. Endure suffering. "If you faint in the time of adversity, your strength is small." You must continually draw strength from the Holy Spirit. Your freshness is dependent on how consistently close you are with the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 6:10 says, " finally brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might". The strength you need to win the battle of life must come from the Holy Spirit.
Don't give room for the enemy to get you weary and discouraged. Ahitophel told Absalom that the best time to attack David was when he's weary and discouraged. That it is a great message for us. Don't allow yourself to be weary and discouraged no matter what. Keep pushing. Keep moving. During the exodus from Egypt, the Israelites got to their wits end. They came face to face with the Red Sea, and the Egyptians chasing them from behind. They were in a dilemma. They cried to Moses, who in turn cried unto God. And God said, "tell the people to move forward." Situations of life can make you weary or discouraged. But you must determine to move forward if you want to win the battle.
In conclusion, the Bible says, "But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint."(Isaiah 40:31 NLT). Friend, draw your strength from the LORD. Paul said, " I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me". You can actually overcome that circumstance. You can actually win that battle. Only if you trust in the LORD.
God bless you.
