Dead to Sin!
Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
Romans 6:12
How can sin reign ?
Was Paul referring to a believer here?
Study slowly
Rom 6:7 KJV For he that is dead is freed from sin.
Free from sin, how?
The previous verse explains!
Rom 6:6 KJV Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
Our old man is crucified with Christ and the body of sin destroyed so that henceforth we do not serve sin.
The body of sin is the Old man. The old man here is not your dad..smiles.
What is sin?
Sin here is a noun. Which is the name of person, animal, place or thing.
Sin is obviously is not a person or an animal.
That's why saying "Sin is Dead" is an unintelligent statement. Sin can't be dead since it is not a person or an animal.
That leave either a thing or a place
When Christ Died on the cross, we were said to have died with Him.
Gal 2:20 KJV I am crucified with Christ....
He didn't just stand as our representative on the cross. That death was an inclusive one. We were joined together with Christ in His Death.
This is why the believer can't continue in Sin.
Rom 6:1 KJV What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
Sin here is a Noun and not an action.
Rom 6:2 KJV God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
Sin in chapter 6 cannot be conduct.
We are dead to sin.
We didn't die to sinful conduct.
If we were dead to sinful conduct, that would mean we can never sin again.
That's obviously not true.
What we were dead to was an Imputation of Sin.
In God's account, sin and us don't have a relationship.
We have been freed from sin.
Simply put, we are no more servants of sin
Before Christ died and rose from the dead, we all were under sin.
Rom 7:14 ...... I am carnal, sold under sin.
But the sacrifice of Jesus terminated that arrangement.
When we believed the gospel, this became our reality.
Freed from sin!
Rom 6:6-10 KJV 6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. 7 For he that is dead is freed from sin. 8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: 9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. 10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
Paul says to KNOW THIS!
Even though, this is our reality, we must know it. Ignorance will make a believer walk as though he hasn't been freed from sin.
He'd keep responding to the instructions of sin as though he is still it's slave. Sin is a principle in the world and as long as we are in this world we are open to the impulses and suggestions from that principle of sin operating in the world.
Knowing who we are in Christ is key to a victorious walk.
Knowing this fact is the first step in our walk in the reality of the finished work of Christ.
What am I to know?
That in the death of Jesus, I died to sin. This must be our epignosis. It must be the surpassing knowledge in our minds. Every other suggestions must surrender to this truth!
Now this..
Rom 6:11 KJV Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Next is to reckon. This means recognise this. Record this in your mind. Treat yourself in this light
Rom 6:12 KJV Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
The lust thereof is the actions of sins.
Don't allow the desires of sin overcome you.
How? By reckoning yourself indeed to be dead to sin.
So...
in Christ,
You are dead to sin.
You are to reckon yourself in this light.
What will be the result?
You will not obey the instructions of sin any longer.
How is this reckoning done?
Our confession.
This is what meditation is.
Speaking to yourself, muttering the truth to your mind.
You say intensely and as many times as possible everyday..
I am indeed dead to sin.
My original face is righteousness.
I've been born again from the dead by the resurrection of Jesus.
The Love of the Father rules in my heart.
I'm not selfish, neither am I a slave to sin.
I am God's Righteousness.
I am a saint and perfectly so forever.
Hallelujah!
You mutter those words continuously and intensely
That's meditation.
That's confession
That's how we get high in the spirit.
Eph 6:17 KJV And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
Many have been taught wrongly that the sword of the spirit is for cutting down devils.
It is not true. The sword of the spirit is for our own hearts.
In the prophecy of Simon when Jesus was born..
Luk 2:34-35 KJV 34 And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against; 35 (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.
The sword is for your own heart. For the revelation of Christ to overwhelm you fully.
When we preach the gospel to the unsaved, we are piercing their hearts with the message of the resurrection of Jesus.
Much more, I am to "stab" myself by meditating on my realities in Christ.
We pierce ourselves with the sword of truth by speaking forth the revelation of Jesus and our identification with Him.
The more I stab myself, the better.
This is how sin won't reign in my mortal body.
This is how fear, sickness, and all the enemy throws at us won't reign.
This is cleared now.
Blessed!
