We began the teaching series for the month titled Surefooted today which is a sermon series preparing us for the end of a year and the beginning of a new one.

We read from Scripture,
Psalm 18 and Psalm 23

To be Surefooted is to be
1. Firm
2. 2. Stable
3. 3. Make Progress
5 interconnected ways to be firm and make progress.

1. Affirmation. Affirmation makes you FIRM. PS 23.1. The Lord is MY SHEPHERD... Learn to speak about God to others and to yourself. Let your ears hear the testimonies while you wait for its manifestation.

2. Rest. In man's scheme, hardwork precedes progress but with God, REST is the core of progress. Ps 23.2

3. Balanced Emotion. He restores my Soul. PS. 23.3 The soul is the seat of Emotions. Acting contrary to issues opens up opportunities for progress.

4. No FEAR. I FEAR NO EVIL. Fear cripples your plan and demotivates you. Take steps in courage and assurance that the Lord is with you. Ps. 23.4

5. Vision. He Prepared a table before Me In the presence of my enemies. Shepherds take their sheep to a high ground where it's eady to see the prey while He annoints the sheep because oil irritates flies. To make progress, that high ground is to see farther and wider. Ps. 23.5.

We'd be looking at those elements from next Sunday onwards.

Don't miss any teaching experience this month.

Blessings.

Fear Not and Follow the Holy Spirit

We certainly don't want to move in the flesh or out of God's timing, but when God is moving, you can't be afraid to move with Him. Satan brings fear to our mind and emotions when the Holy Spirit is trying to lead us in a new direction. He tries to use fear to keep us from moving forward with God.

Isaiah 41:10 says, 'Fear not, for I am with you.' If you've been afraid of something and desire to be free, the time will eventually come when you'll have to face your fear and not run from it. Just take Jesus' hand, acknowledge that He is with you, and do it. Don't be afraid, for He is with you.

Is Christ the Balm of Gilead?

I've seen church programs with the theme, 'Balm of Gilead' and this is used to describe the power of God in Christ to heal the sick. This phrase appears in the book of Jeremiah and has nothing to do with the power of God.

Jer 8:22; 'Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?'

The children of Israel had been told to trust God for the healing of their bodies but they had forsaken God and gone into idolatry as usual. In their sicknesses they had trusted the balm in Gilead to no avail. A balm is a medicinal substance. Gilead was an area east of the Jordan River, well known for its spices and ointments. So this was not about the power of the balm of Gilead but a mockery of how trust in this has brought no cure. At Exo 15:26 God had told the children of Israel, 'I am the Lord that healeth thee.'

The prophet also taunts and mocks the Egyptians with this...

Jer 46:11; "Go up to Gilead and take balm, O virgin, the daughter of Egypt; In vain you will use many medicines; You shall not be cured."

Have you seen this is not about the power of the Balm of Gilead but its limitations? This is a simple contextual appraisal of scriptures. The healing power of Christ is not the balm in Gilead and it surpasses it without any form of comparison.

Are you sick?
Receive your healing in the name of Jesus, which is the Power of the Spirit.

This is clear now and forever!

Blessings!

Dead to Sin!

Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
Romans 6:12

How can sin reign ?
Was Paul referring to a believer here?

Study slowly
Rom 6:7 KJV For he that is dead is freed from sin.

Free from sin, how?

The previous verse explains!

Rom 6:6 KJV Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

Our old man is crucified with Christ and the body of sin destroyed so that henceforth we do not serve sin.

The body of sin is the Old man. The old man here is not your dad..smiles.

What is sin?

Sin here is a noun. Which is the name of person, animal, place or thing.

Sin is obviously is not a person or an animal.

That's why saying "Sin is Dead" is an unintelligent statement. Sin can't be dead since it is not a person or an animal.

That leave either a thing or a place

When Christ Died on the cross, we were said to have died with Him.

Gal 2:20 KJV I am crucified with Christ....

He didn't just stand as our representative on the cross. That death was an inclusive one. We were joined together with Christ in His Death.

This is why the believer can't continue in Sin.

Rom 6:1 KJV What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?

Sin here is a Noun and not an action.

Rom 6:2 KJV God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

Sin in chapter 6 cannot be conduct.

We are dead to sin.

We didn't die to sinful conduct.

If we were dead to sinful conduct, that would mean we can never sin again.

That's obviously not true.

What we were dead to was an Imputation of Sin.

In God's account, sin and us don't have a relationship.

We have been freed from sin.

Simply put, we are no more servants of sin

Before Christ died and rose from the dead, we all were under sin.

Rom 7:14 ...... I am carnal, sold under sin.

But the sacrifice of Jesus terminated that arrangement.

When we believed the gospel, this became our reality.

Freed from sin!

Rom 6:6-10 KJV 6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. 7 For he that is dead is freed from sin. 8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: 9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. 10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.

Paul says to KNOW THIS!

Even though, this is our reality, we must know it. Ignorance will make a believer walk as though he hasn't been freed from sin.

He'd keep responding to the instructions of sin as though he is still it's slave. Sin is a principle in the world and as long as we are in this world we are open to the impulses and suggestions from that principle of sin operating in the world.

Knowing who we are in Christ is key to a victorious walk.

Knowing this fact is the first step in our walk in the reality of the finished work of Christ.

What am I to know?

That in the death of Jesus, I died to sin. This must be our epignosis. It must be the surpassing knowledge in our minds. Every other suggestions must surrender to this truth!

Now this..

Rom 6:11 KJV Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Next is to reckon. This means recognise this. Record this in your mind. Treat yourself in this light

Rom 6:12 KJV Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

The lust thereof is the actions of sins.

Don't allow the desires of sin overcome you.

How? By reckoning yourself indeed to be dead to sin.

So...

in Christ,

You are dead to sin.
You are to reckon yourself in this light.

What will be the result?
You will not obey the instructions of sin any longer.

How is this reckoning done?

Our confession.

This is what meditation is.
Speaking to yourself, muttering the truth to your mind.

You say intensely and as many times as possible everyday..

I am indeed dead to sin.

My original face is righteousness.

I've been born again from the dead by the resurrection of Jesus.

The Love of the Father rules in my heart.

I'm not selfish, neither am I a slave to sin.

I am God's Righteousness.

I am a saint and perfectly so forever.

Hallelujah!

You mutter those words continuously and intensely
That's meditation.
That's confession
That's how we get high in the spirit.

Eph 6:17 KJV And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

Many have been taught wrongly that the sword of the spirit is for cutting down devils.

It is not true. The sword of the spirit is for our own hearts.

In the prophecy of Simon when Jesus was born..

Luk 2:34-35 KJV 34 And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against; 35 (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.

The sword is for your own heart. For the revelation of Christ to overwhelm you fully.

When we preach the gospel to the unsaved, we are piercing their hearts with the message of the resurrection of Jesus.

Much more, I am to "stab" myself by meditating on my realities in Christ.

We pierce ourselves with the sword of truth by speaking forth the revelation of Jesus and our identification with Him.

The more I stab myself, the better.

This is how sin won't reign in my mortal body.

This is how fear, sickness, and all the enemy throws at us won't reign.

This is cleared now.

Blessed!

Excerpts from Today's Sermon
By Ps. Ayo Sparks

The Word was not created. The Word Created.

The written word is not Logos, Jesus is the Logos... Living and Active.

The only way to decipher the voice of God from the voice of your head is by the Word. Heb. 4.12

The way we make contact with God is via the word.

7 "WE AREs", by the Word

1. We are convinced by the Word | It is by the Word that we are convinced that the world needs Jesus, that we are the Righteousness of God in Christ and that Satan has already being judged. John 16.7-10
2. We are Reborn by the Word | The natural character of the Word is eternity... The same becomes of us because we are born of HIM. 1 Peter 1:18
3. We ARE renewed by the Word | No physical transformation occurs without mental transformation. The word renews us by renewing our minds. Romans 12.2
4. We are one with God by the Word | Christ and the Word are one. It is the word dwelling in you which is equivalent to Christ personally dwelling in you. Col. 3.16
5. We are Built up by the Word | The word builds the Christ nature and love nature of the Father into us as individuals. You can't build up spiritually on philosophies or theories about the word or on history of the word. We are only made spiritual by living in the word and the word living in us. Acts 20.32
6. We ARE healed by the Word | He hath borne our sicknesses and carried our diseases away. HE SENT HIS WORD AND HEALS US. Psalm 107
7. We now know the Father by the Word | THE Fatherhood of God is revealed to us by the Word. God wants to be intimate with us and so he ceased calling us servants but sons. John 14.23

It is the word on our lips that counts. The word becomes a living thing in our lips.

Our words becomes God's word when we make the word our words. God's word in your mouth, fresh and refilling causes changes on the outside because our inside is filled with it.

So, feed on the word.
