"Deeds may be hidden for a while, but they cannot be hidden forever."
The Bible says:
"Do not be deceived; God cannot be mocked. Whatever a man sows, that he will also reap." — Galatians 6:7
BITTER TRUTHS
1. Whatever a person does, he will receive in return. — Ecclesiastes 12:14
2. If a person seeks the good of others, he will find good on his own path.
3. If a person plans evil against another, he will encounter evil himself.
4. If a person lifts others up, he too will be lifted.
Another Yoruba saying:
"Character is like smoke; it cannot be hidden."
TWO MAJOR TYPES OF CHARACTER IN OUR SOCIETY
1. Evil character and deceitfulness — Genesis 6:5; Psalm 55:10–14; 56:7; Jeremiah 17:9
2. Good character (Omoluabi – uprightness and integrity) — James 3:13–17
HOW DID BABYLON BEHAVE?
1. Babylon did not delight in good. — Psalm 109:17b; Proverbs 14:14
2. Babylon sought the downfall of other cities.
3. Babylon waged war against other nations. — Jeremiah 20:10–11
4. Babylon turned the joy of God’s beloved into sorrow. — Genesis 49:22–23; Exodus 1:10–11
5. Babylon became a source of affliction to the beloved. — Psalm 129:1–2; 55:3
6. Babylon opposed the work of God. — Nehemiah 4:1–3
JUDGMENT AGAINST BABYLON
1. Babylon fell and was destroyed. — Revelation 18:2, 5–6
2. God handed Babylon over to its enemies. — 2 Timothy 4:14; 1 Timothy 1:20
3. God avenged the blood shed by Babylon. — Deuteronomy 32:43; Genesis 9:6
4. Their position of honor was taken away. — Jude 6; Genesis 6:4
5. Their journey ended in eternal destruction (hell). — Revelation 20:12–15
INSTRUCTIONS FOR BELIEVERS
1. Do not take revenge yourself. — Romans 12:19; Proverbs 20:22; 24:29
2. Do not let evil overcome you. — Romans 12:21
3. Feed your enemy. — Romans 12:20
4. Provide for the needs of God’s people. — Romans 12:13; 1 Timothy 3:2
5. Live in peace with everyone. — Hebrews 12:14
CONCLUSION
"Let the one who does wrong continue to do wrong… and let the righteous continue to do right… Behold, I am coming soon, and my reward is with me, to give to each person according to what they have done."
