FOOD FOR THOUGHT TODAY 10/01/2024

Philippians 4:8 KJV - Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Do you remember the saying "garbage in, garbage out?"

Let us ponder on this message for a moment.
Do you know that what you allow into your mind is what comes out of you and what comes out of you is what defines who you are.

So the question for today is:
1. What do you fill your heart with?
2. What are those things that you see most, hear most, talk about most and even act most?

Feel free to share your view and thoughts about this topic as we help each other to grow.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT TODAY 11TH SEPT, 2023

Topic: “Everybody” Isn’t Always Everybody

“COME ON, Mom, be reasonable,” pleaded Kirsten. “There aren’t going to be drugs or anything. It’s just a party.”

“You’re not going to a party at Brad’s house-or anywhere else,” her mom argued, “unless there are some adults around to chaperone.”

“I can’t believe you’re doing this to me,” Kirsten whined. “Everybody else is going to be there. I’ll be the only one whose mother won’t let her go.”

Kirsten didn’t speak to her mother for the rest of the weekend. Everybody goes to those kinds of parties these days, she reasoned.

Kirsten got a surprise when she found out on Monday that Julia and Christopher hadn’t gone to Brad’s party either. Kirsten had bought the common belief that “everybody’s doing it.” What a lie! Everybody is not doing it, whatever it is. Sometimes it seems that way, but an aware teen will eventually spot a lot fewer people “doing it” than the crowd would have him or her believe.

Everybody is not having premarital s*x. Recent research indicates that more than 50 percent of Christian kids are not doing it. That’s a significant number.

Everybody is not using to***co. Some surveys indicate that as many as 80 percent of today’s youth don’t smoke.

Everybody is not using alcohol. Surveys reveal that around 30 percent of high school students do not use alcohol and nearly 10 percent have never tried it.

Everybody is not doing drugs. The Institute of Social Research at the University of Michigan reported a sharp drop in the use of co***ne and other drugs by teenagers. Over 40 percent of all American young people have refused illicit drugs all the way through to high school graduation.

Everybody is not losing or outgrowing their faith in God. A survey oftwo thousand youth shows that 61 percent regard religion as the most important part of their lives.

Students often use the lie that everybody’s doing it to manipulate their friends, parents, and peers into conforming to the crowd. Don’t believe the myth. Everybody is not doing it. And even if everybody is doing it, you don’t have to. Daniel and his three friends didn’t yield to the pressure to conform, and God blessed them as a result. A hefty percentage of youth today know how to say no. And more and more, that’s just what they’re doing.

NOTE:
Daniel made up his mind not to defile himself by eating the food and wine given to them by the king. Daniel 1:8
How strong is your resolve against this subtle pressure to conform?

Topic: It’s What’s Inside That Counts

CATHERINE’S cover-girl beauty qualifies her for the pages of Vogue or Mademoiselle. Her slim figure slides perfectly into a black evening gown. Her elegance and charm would grace the elite parties of the super-rich.

So what is she doing in a sewer?

In the old hit television series Beauty and the Beast, Catherine hangs around Vincent the man-beast. The whole plot of the series revolves around one gigantic question: What does she see in him? A gorgeous woman in love with a half-man, half-lion who lives in abandoned subway tunnels-what’s up with that?

That puzzle, of course, is part of why the show works. Catherine is attracted to Vincent not because of his appearance, but in spite of it. She is in love with the guy under the lion’s mane. She loves him for his sensitivity and compassion. And part of the show’s appeal is that love like that is rare.

Lots of people buy into the idea that looks are everything. Our culture tells you that girls or guys who lack the looks of supermodels are, well, unattractive. That’s ridiculous. Television, magazines, movies, and videos constantly drum into us a prepackaged image of what is beautiful and what is not. The media machine also pushes the idea that being beautiful means instant, unending happiness.

As a Christian, you aren’t obligated to be ugly. But you’re not obligated to look like a commercial for cosmetics or a body-building machine either. There’s a lot more to beauty than clear skin, bulging biceps, and piercing blue eyes. The biggest beauty more often comes from a person’s attitude and disposition. God chose David to be king of Israel not because of David’s appearance or physical attributes but because of the attitude of his heart.

Beauty as the world defines it often isn’t a blessing. Believe it or not, beauty sometimes is the beast that drives a girl to depression or robs a guy of his self-esteem. There are many outwardly stunning people who happen to be inwardly lonely, insecure, and unfulfilled.

Truth is, if you seek happiness in the color of your hair or the cut of your clothes, you’re sure to be disappointed. Clothes can be cool, but they aren’t as important as what lies beyond the reflection in the mirror. Whether you are pleased with the person you see has more to do with what you can’t see than with what you can.

NOTE:
People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at a person’s thoughts and intentions. 1 Samuel 16:7.
How are you trying to spot in yourself-and in others-a beauty that is more than skin deep?

DA CHOSEN GENERATION MINISTRIES

WORD FOR TODAY THURSDAY 6TH JANUARY 2022

Topic: Relying on Grace

Yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me. 1 Corinthians 15:10

Let us face this fact: We came into the world with nothing, and we will leave it with nothing. Where do we get the notion that man’s idea of success and God’s are the same? You have written a book; you are a clever manager and promoter; you are a talented artist; you are independently rich; you have achieved fame and fortune. Without the gifts of intelligence, imagination, personality, and physical energy-which are all endowed by God-where would you be? Are we not born poor? Do we not die poor? And would we not be poor indeed without God’s infinite mercy and love?

We came out of nothing; and if we are anything, it is because God is everything. If He were to withhold His power for one brief instant from us, if He were to hold in check the breath of life for one moment, our physical existence would shrivel into nothingness, and our souls would be whisked away into an endless eternity. Those who are poor in spirit recognize their creatureliness and their sinfulness-but more, they are ready to confess their sins and renounce them.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
What do i have that has not been given to me by God?
All I have or am, Lord God, has been given to me by Your almighty hands. Forgive me when I tend to boast about my own accomplishments for I am nothing without Your grace and love.
