CHRISTIAN MATURITY
(Sacred Vows)
It's like this: When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child does. But when I grew up, I put away childish things - 1Cor.13:11 NLT
The reason why you are confused maybe something is a sin or not is because you don't have boundaries/vows governing your life.
If as a christian, you are still struggling to outgrow many things you should have outgrown, you need to do some things. These include, but not limited to making vows - Sacred Vows.
Not until you realized that no one can be the determinant of your life, that you are the sole general of your life and the captain of your ship, you may find it a little difficult to put away childish things.
If you find it difficult to leave some childish things behind you, or you think growing spiritually is a big deal, why not make some vows? Make some sacred vows, which must cover all the major areas that matters to you;
Marital Vows - As a married man/woman, you have to set certain limits in your relationship with opposite s*x so as not to fall into any kind of scandal. Also as singles, we can also vow not to do certain things with opposite s*x before getting married.
Monetary Vows - Making vows to worship God with your substances, also paying and be faithful with your tithe. For example, you can vow that you will be paying in church for offering, at least nothing less than how much you spend on your lunch daily. That is, if daily, your lunch is N1000, you can vow not drop anything less than N1000 for your offering, and before you know it a thousand naira would even be a peanut to you.
It is true that's its so easy to make a vow but not easy to fulfil. But these things can help you with fulfilling your vows;
- Recognize the fulfillment of the vow
- Don't be silent about your vows. If possible, tell people about your vows.
- Make a strong commitment to never go back on the vow you have made.
There's this story of a young man that prayed to God to give him a goat and made a vow that if the goat gives birth to two kids, one will be for God and the other for him. His prayer was answered, God gave him the goat and the goat eventually gave birth to two kids.
One day this man went to his farm, but before he returned a car had crushed one of the two baby goats. On his arrival, his neighbours alerted him of the unfortunate incident, he said in a loud voice "Oh! God's goat is dead"
The question is; why is it that its God's that was crushed by the car? Let's search our lives, why is it God's things that is always dying in our hands.
Remember, better not to vow, than to vow and not pay.
Say this prayer; Lord, let me grow spiritually, let me love you more. Give me the power to outgrow being childish spiritually, give me the grace to make sacred vows and stay by it.
AMEN
