THE NEW JERUSALEM
Read: Revelation 21:1-7
Revelation 21:1-7 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.
I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.
'He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life.
Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.
MEMORISE:
And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. (Revelation 21:2).
EXPOSITION
It is no longer news, the recent US's recognition of Jerusalem as original capital city of Israel. Some other nations have also followed suit. This is a scripture fulfilled concerning the nation Israel. However, the Holy Spirit will be ministering to us this morning as touching a New Jerusalem which is not of the earth. Money plus other specified qualifications make one eligible to visit the Jerusalem in Israel, but the heavenly Jerusalem entry visa is holiness. Total holiness is the entry ticket (1 Pet. 1:15).
In the golden text, verse 8 highlights those who will not be part of the new heaven and new earth. What disqualifies a murderer also disqualifies a liar! What disqualifies the fearful (coward) also does the fornicate! What disqualifies the wine drinker also disqualifies the sorcerer! What disqualifies the abominable also disqualifies the adulterer, and so on and so forth... (Gal.5:19).
In which of these and other related are you still swimming? No sinful act is rated above the other. You are to keep the entire law of God (Matt.7:24). This qualifies you for entry into the New Jerusalem. There is no statistic, yardstick or required cut-off mark! It is either you make it at 100% or not! (Matt.5:48). It is good to become a Jerusalem pilgrimage (JP), but it is no visa to enter the kingdom of heaven. Becoming a JP, or not, does not add to or take away from your entry qualification into coming to the New Jerusalem, The Holy City. God inhabits the City is Holy. The people there are holy. Those aspiring to get there must be holy. May you be enabled, divinely, to meet up with this Amen.
PRAYER POINTS:
1. Lord make me holy unto you to the end of my race in life.
2. God, help me to know You have reserved a place for me in Heaven and to be passionate about getting there.
3. Lord, help all believers to be decided, resolute and sincerely thirsty about how to be with You forever.
