22nd Sunday after Trinity , Harvest thanksgiving
Theme: "Harvest of Divine Promise"
READINGS
Old testament lesson|Text: Gen. 26:12–22
Epistle lesson: 2 Cor. 9:6–11
Gospel lesson: John 4:31–38
Let’s begin with Isaac. In Genesis 26, during a time of famine, Isaac sowed seeds in a foreign land, and in that same year, he reaped a hundredfold because the Lord blessed him. Despite opposition and the Philistines stopping his wells, Isaac moved forward, naming each place, trusting God, and eventually reaching Rehoboth “Now the Lord has made room for us.”
Isaac’s story is one of divine promise fulfilled through obedience, faith, and perseverance.
THEME: HARVEST OF DIVINE PROMISE
Beloved in Christ today’s message encourages us to recognize that the true harvest comes not only from our labor but from God’s promise and blessing. It’s a call to trust God with our seeds, be it time, gifts, service, or resources and to respond in gratitude through giving and faithful living.
But we often sow sparingly, holding back our gifts, doubting God's provision, or forgetting to thank Him. We chase earthly rewards and withhold compassion, even when we have been given so much. Like the disciples in John 4, we are often concerned with physical bread while ignoring the spiritual harvest around us.
Remember God's words in (John 15:5) “Without me, you can do nothing” .
Though we are weak and forgetful, God is faithful. Jesus says, “Look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.” He calls us into a harvest we didn’t plant, He already did the work through the cross.
In Christ, the barren become fruitful. The empty-handed are filled.
He is the Seed, the Sower, and the Lord of the Harvest.
Because of Jesus, we reap mercy, joy, and eternal life even when we didn’t deserve it.
As recipients of divine promise, we are called to reflect God's generosity. We don’t give to earn blessings we give because we are already blessed.
Paul reminds us in 2 Corinthians: “God loves a cheerful giver… you will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion.”
Let us sow kindness, service, time, and treasure into the lives of others and into the Church not out of guilt but in joyful response to God’s abundant grace.
Beloved, in Christ, we have reached our Rehoboth. God has made room for us, not because of our works, but because of His promises and finished work on the cross.
Let this Harvest Thanksgiving be more than a tradition, make it a moment of true reflection. Sow faithfully. Give cheerfully. Live joyfully. And remember: You are part of the harvest of divine promise.
Shalom 🙏
