LESSONS TO LEARN FROM ROTTEN TOMATOES
One day, I noticed a tomato I had left at home for too long. It had become rotten, filled with maggots. As I looked at it in amazement, the Lord spoke to my heart: everything that lives—plants, animals, and humans—was created from the earth, and when life is gone, the body itself becomes food for maggots.
This brought a sobering lesson. The less privileged, the “God-forsaken,” the weak, the broken, and those you may have oppressed with your position, power, or influence—are no different from you. The people you have despised and treated as though they were nothing will end up in the same earth as you. In the end, the same maggots will feed on all remains—whether rich or poor, powerful or weak. There are no special maggots for the wealthy or privileged.
Romans 12:3 reminds us:
"For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith."
And verse 10 adds:
"Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another."
Another lesson struck me the day I went with my siblings to see the remains of our father. In that place, I saw the beautiful and the unattractive, the tall and the short, the big and the small—all lying helplessly side by side. I became sober and thought deeply: if human pride and arrogance could save anyone at this moment, it might have been worth it—but it could not.
Jesus Himself said in John 15:5:
“…for without Me ye can do nothing.”
Death proves our helplessness. But here lies the good news: while every man’s body may return to dust, Jesus Christ conquered death. He said He would raise Himself after three days, and He did. He resurrected in power and life!
This is the truth: once you stop breathing, you no longer have control. Your eternity rests in the hands of God. The only way to be assured of eternal life is through Jesus Christ, the resurrection and the life. True glory is not in earthly pride, riches, or position, but in being united with Him.
