YOU ARE WHOM YOU WORSHIP

Read: Psalms 115:1-8

Psalms 115:1-8 Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth's sake.
Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is now their God?
But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.
Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands.
They have mouths, but they speak not: eyes have they, but they see not:
They have ears, but they hear not: noses have they, but they smell not:
They have hands, but they handle not: feet have they, but they walk not: neither speak they through their throat.
They that make them are like unto them; so is every one that trusteth in them.

MEMORISE: Those who make them become like them; so do all who trust in them (Psalms 115:8).

EXPOSITION
Happy Palm Sunday 2022! Glory be to God. On this auspicious day that people chose to spread materials in worship of the King of kings as He triumphantly entered into Jerusalem, heralding the Passion Week, let us talk about worship. You are indeed whom (or 'what', as the case may be) you worship.

The Psalmist, in Psalms 115, talked about Israel's worship of idols. These idols could not hear, speak, see, or even feel. They were the works of human hands, made of silver and gold; brought forth by the imaginations and beliefs of human beings. Hence, the Psalmist lamented that when Israel made or put their trust in such idols, they became like them. Implication: they could not "hear, see, speak, or even feel." They became as "worthless" as these idols. In the end, many of them could not appreciate the beauty, glory, and truth about God; and even broke away from His love.

In this day and age, most of us do not worship idols such as those worshipped by Israel. However, many of us might be struggling with "idolatry" brought forth by our time spent with our hand phones or gaming media, on a daily basis. If we are not careful, we might become more and more like what we are spending our time on. We could become just like our hand phones: having much data or information, but very lacking in real human interaction or involvement. We could become so entrenched in the hyperactivity brought forth by gaming that we become increasingly distant to real people in the real world. We could even become easily angered or irritated with people around us. As we continue to worship (or become addicted to) such devices, we might just become more and more like them; great to look at on the outside, but really hollow on the inside.

We become whom or what we worship. Therefore, let us focus our eyes on the One who is truly worthy of our attention, so that we can become more like Him and worship Him in spirit and truth with all the musical instruments and melodies we have at our disposal such as Jazz, drums, guitars, etc.

PRAYER POINTS:
1. Lord, help us to take step back and realise how much we have come to rely on our devices, even those brought with our monies.
2. Help us Lord, to break away from our addictions, so that we can refocus on You.
3. Pray for CAC Odubanjo Region, our father in the Lord, the Superintendent, and its officers at the various levels, as led by the Spirit of God.

BURN THE IDOLS LEFT BEHIND

Read: 1 Chronicles 14:8-12

1 Chronicles 14:8-12 And when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David. And David heard of it, and went out against them.
And the Philistines came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.
And David enquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? and wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the LORD said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand.
So they came up to Baalperazim; and David smote them there. Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters: therefore they called the name of that place Baalperazim.
And when they had left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire.

MEMORISE: And when they left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire (1 Chronicles 14:12)

EXPOSITION
After David's enthronement and establishment over Israel, envious enemies, that time around, the Philistines, came challenging him (1 Chro. 14:8,9). Victory over a challenge introduces another. The presence of challenges doesn't mean one is devoid of God's presence; it only affords Him opportunities to prove and promote His supremacy over Satan and his advances, in and through one's life.

David knew the right Place to go for help (God's Presence), and called for His help (v. 10). Where do you approach in times of challenges (Psa. 46:1; 121:1ff)? He fought the battle in God's name and strategy, got the victory accordingly, and returned the glory to God (1 Chro. 14:11). Who takes the glory of your exploits (cf. Isa. 42:8)? But something happened that we must learn from.

The defeated Philistines, some of whom were put to flight, abandoned their gods as they fled (v. 12a). Such idols, if left untouched or undealt with could become snares to the people in the future. Allowing them to remain could suggest David's subtle love for, and interest in them. Moreover, if the idols were left there, it is likely the people could have resorted to them for pleasure, or in pain/problems, and that could have incurred God's wrath on them.

The above must have informed why David quickly commended his men to burn them with fire (v. 12b). Allowing the devil and his instruments to stay and fester/flourish is tantamount to committing su***de in the cruellest and crudest way (Eph. 4:27). Those who have tried that in the past had themselves to blame. Beware of those things that come in the wake of your victories/successes. Not all of these are God-glorifying. Be discerning, and never be careles, lest you be ensnared by gods (idols in whatever forms) the defeated enemies left behind to ensnare you (2 Cor. 2:11).

PRAYER POINTS:
1. Thank God for the victories, successes and breakthroughs He has been granting you.
2. Pray for the grace to be sensitive enough not to fall in the devil's traps.
3. Pray for the Church to be discerning enough as not to fall into snares the so-called 'big catches' can set before her after 'conversion.'

LIVING WATER🌊 CAC DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE

📆 Thursday, April 7, 2022. -World Health Day

IS YOUR DNA STILL POSITIVE?

Read: Genesis 1:24-27

Genesis 1:24-27 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.
And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

MEMORISE: Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth" (Genesis 1:26)

EXPOSITION
On this World Health day, it is not out of place to know that DNA is the hereditary material in humans and almost all other organisms. God Himself is the Author of genetics, for by His commands, every beast and fish multiply after their respective kinds, even till today. Though, man was the last to be created, he was created in the image of the divine--Trinity. However, the devil robbed him, and he lost the image of God in him. The joy is that Jesus came to restore him to the original image that carries the divine DNA, i.e. after being born again: 'But the free gift is not like the offense. For if by the one man's offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many' (Rom. 5:15).

Jesus came to impute on as many as would receive Him 'the kind of God' which should make us behave like God (cf. Rom. 8:29). But, oh! We are not like Jesus (CACGHB. 524). Why? Corruption and rebellion that remove the kind of Jesus from Pastors, Evangelists, Christians. They have sold off their images, and now have upon themselves satanic images in dressing, hairstyles, attitudes, body tattoos, music, teachings, dance styles, etc. The question now is, Is your DNA still positive even after you are born again?

It is high time you offloaded every weight from your life, else you miss the mark when the Master eventually comes to select only those who bear His mark. Paul says, 'From now on let no one trouble me, for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus' (Gal. 6:17). Some believers face unnecessary troubles that they sometimes erroneously think are persecutions for Christ's sake. However, in the actual sense, they are being punished for the prince of this world's godless loads with many of them. May we receive grace to be changed for His glory, in Jesus' name. Amen.

PRAYER POINTS:
1. Lord, please remove every satanic mark and symbol from my life.
2. Lord, infuse Your precious, holy blood in my entire system so that the 'DNA' of sin would not have any place in my life.
3. Pray for CAC Odusona Region, our father in the Lord, the Superintendent, and its officers at the various levels, as led by the Spirit of God.

YOUR SPIRITUAL ARMOUR

Read: 2 Corinthians 10:1-6

2 Corinthians 10:1-6 Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you:
But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh.
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

MEMORISE: Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil (Ephesians 6:11).

EXPOSITION
In June 1944, after a 24-hour weather delay, just before the invasion of Normandy, France, where gathered the largest military operation in the history of warfare, a famous letter was read to the "soldiers, sailors, and airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Forces," issued by General Eisenhower, saying: "Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped and battle-hardened. He will fight savagely." Here, the General wanted his troops to understand the grim reality of the battle that awaited them because failure to do so would only lead to greater casualties.

Ponder on that scene and you will catch a clue of how terribly fierce our daily spiritual warfare has been since the Fall and redemption of Man. The enemy said, 'I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my desire shall be satisfied on them. I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.' You blew with Your wind, the sea covered them; they sank like lead in the mighty waters (Exod. 15:9-11). And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force (Matt. 11:12).

Many Christians are yet to grasp the reality of the spiritual warfare and the enemy, Satan, we are engaging. But thank God for the divine provided spiritual armour for our already settled victory in the warfare (Eph. 6:13-18). No Christian should be deceived that Satan is a caricature. The Bible speaks of the devil being a real foe; he is mentioned more than 100 times (1 Pet. 5:8). Yet, he is made powerless by the finished work of Christ. Hallelujah! We are fighting from victory to victory, assured of Christ's victory over Satan (Rom. 16:20; 1 Cor. 15:57; Rev. 12:11).

Dear reader, to win our spiritual warfare, better than the invasion of Normandy, France, is to always put on the whole armour of God, and walk worthy of our callings in Christ Jesus. Don't go anywhere without putting on your spiritual armour.

PRAYER POINTS:
1. I wear my spiritual armour; I shall not be disgraced in battle of life, in Jesus' name.
2. Holy Spirit, equip me with every weapon I need to win the battles of this life, in Jesus' name.
3. Pray for CAC Anosike Region, our father in the Lord, the Superintendent, and its officers at the various levels, as led by the Spirit of God.

BE AN ENCOURAGER

Read: Acts 4:33-37

Acts 4:33-37 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.
Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,
And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.
And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus,
Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles' feet.

MEMORISE: Now we exhort you, brethren, warn those who are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all (1 Thessalonians 5:14).

EXPOSITION
The Scripture in Galatians 6:2 says, 'Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ'. The word, "bear" comes from the Greek word which means, "To carry, to take up, or to take away or carry off." The word "burden" comes from a Greek word which means "a weight." When you put these two words together, "bear" and "burden," it means to take away or carry off the weight someone else is experiencing. Basically, it means to bring relief and comfort to someone else's life when faced with adversities.

Barnabas is adjudged the "Son of Encouragement." He lived to the meaning of his name by what he did outstandingly, by alleviating the sufferings of the early church saints who were in dire financial needs in Jerusalem then. This is practical Christianity. If a Christian brother or sister is weighed down or menaced by some burden or threat -- financial, mental, bodily health, marital crisis, joblessness or the loss of a loved one, be alert to that, and quickly do something to help. No gossip please! Do not let them be crushed or destroyed under the weight of such difficulties.

Yes, bearing one another's burdens can be difficult and clumsy, for it takes deep courage, faith, and trust to offer timely help. However, since burdens are not limited to financial help alone, even when it is, the load can be made lighter when we know Who to trust (God), and He alone we give the other person's burden to, so the encourager (you) is not crushed under it. To put all burdens into earnest prayers before God is to trust Him for an outcome that we cannot control. This shows that we trust the Lord who loves us more than we do, and we are readily available as encouragers (unreserved helpers), just like Barnabas did, believing God to command someone else to bear our burdens too.

PRAYER POINTS:
1. O Lord, use me as a timely encourager to those in distress.
2. I rebuke and chase you spirits of selfishness, greed and self-centredness out of my life, in Jesus' name.
3. Pray for CAC Hanson Region, our father in the Lord, the Superintendent, and its officers at the various levels, as led by the Spirit of God.

SEEK WISDOM

Read: 1 Kings 3:1-15

1 Kings 3:1-15 And Solomon made affinity with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh's daughter, and brought her into the city of David, until he had made an end of building his own house, and the house of the LORD, and the wall of Jerusalem round about.
Only the people sacrificed in high places, because there was no house built unto the name of the LORD, until those days.
And Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father: only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places.
And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar.
In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.
And Solomon said, Thou hast shewed unto thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.
And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in.
And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.
Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?
And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.
And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment;
Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.
And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honour: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days.
And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days.
And Solomon awoke; and, behold, it was a dream. And he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and offered up burnt offerings, and offered peace offerings, and made a feast to all his servants.

MEMORISE: How much better to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver (Proverbs 16:16).

EXPOSITION
The world is dynamic. To be relevant in it, you mustn't be stagnant. There have been serious improvements on the tools used in different professions. There were times when 1000 men need to work on the farm before large productions can be made. Today, just 10 human endeavours, including mining, as today commemorates International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance In Mine Action. All of these are products of advancement in knowledge. Anyone who does not move along as the world moves, such fellow may become irrelevant. The question is, 'Are you relevant in your respective duty post?'

Solomon became a king by royal heritage. You too may be qualified for that position. You are due for promotion in your respective duty post, your business is moving and getting enlarged everyday. All of these are good news. The challenge here is, that next level you aspire to, can you manage it? Solomon was qualified but he knew in himself that he would find it difficult to manage the people well, hence his prayer for God's wisdom. It is never a crime to have reasonable ambition, but it will be a criminal act, if you get there and you destroy the good records someone else had built before your arrival.

The fact is, there is no better time you need wisdom than now (Prov. 4:7). Nothing can one do right maritally, spiritually, physically, professionally and academically, without wisdom and excellence. This is the same excellent spirit Daniel possessed and that made him outstanding in his time. The spirit of wisdom, which qualifies and positions one for excellence and success, is the Spirit of Christ, the wisdom of God. By Him, kings rule, judges give right judgement, etc. Only He can qualify you for the next level, and brings relevance to your life.

To get wisdom, if it means going for further studies that will boost your credentials, please do. If you need to unlearn some things to learn the right skills, please go ahead. Don't rest on your oars. The world is advancing everyday. Update yourself regularly and relevantly.

PRAYER POINTS:
1. I receive grace to do the right thing at the right time in all areas of my life, in Jesus' name.
2. My heavenly father, take me to higher height and make me capable in Jesus' name.
3. O Lord, make me relevant in all my doings, in Jesus' mighty name.
