The identity of the Celestial Church of Christ was not decided by a human committee; it came down from Heaven by ๐ฑ๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ฒ ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐น๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป. Today, ๐๐ฒ๐น๐ฒ๐๐๐ถ๐ฎ๐น ๐ ๐ฒ๐ฑ๐ถ๐ฎ ๐ง๐ฒ๐น๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป takes you down memory lane to honor a true ๐ช๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ณ๐ฐ ๐ฐ๐ง ๐ง๐ข๐ช๐ต๐ฉ๐ช, Alexander Yanga, the man chosen by God to reveal the name of this great fold.
The story begins in the early days of the commission. Alexander Yanga, whom accounts identify as the son of Rev. S.B.J. Oshoffaโs elder sister, was a seeker undergoing spiritual healing at the residence of the Pastor Founder. During this period, Yanga was held in a powerful trance that lasted for ๐๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ป ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐๐. On the final day, he requested a piece of chalk and wrote on the wall: ๐๐จ๐ญ๐ช๐ด๐ฆ ๐ฅ๐ถ ๐๐ฉ๐ณ๐ช๐ด๐ต๐ช๐ข๐ฏ๐ช๐ด๐ฎ๐ฆ ๐๐ฆ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ด๐ต๐ฆโthe Celestial Church of Christ.
Beyond naming the church, Yangaโs spiritual sensitivity birthed one of our most sacred traditions. In 1948, he received and sang ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐บ๐ป ๐ฒ๐ต๐ฐ, โ๐๐ข ๐๐ช๐ด๐ฆ ๐๐ถ๐ฏ ๐๐ธ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ถ ๐๐ฐ ๐๐ฎ๐ช ๐๐ขโฆโ (Letโs work for the purification of our soul). To this day, this hymn, documented by ๐๐ฒ๐น๐ฒ๐๐๐ถ๐ฎ๐น ๐ ๐ฒ๐ฑ๐ถ๐ฎ ๐ง๐ฒ๐น๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป as a cornerstone of our heritage, remains the foundation of our Monthly Watch Night services.
However, Yangaโs life also serves as a vital lesson in the ๐ฐ๐ญ๐ฅ ๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ข๐ณ๐ฌ๐ด of the CCC. While he was a strong Prophet who became a pioneer missionary in Cรดte d'Ivoire, history records that once he was healed and established in the faith, he focused on ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฝ๐ต๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ and the "tongues of the land" so that all could understand. He stopped the practice of trance once his spiritual mission of naming the church was complete.
This aligns with the stern 1974 instructions of our Pastor Founder, St. S.B.J. Oshoffa. Papa emphasized that ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฝ๐ต๐ฒ๐ฐ๐, not uncontrolled trance or untranslated tongues, is the true mark of a Prophet. He warned that trance was never intended to be a permanent tenet, as the Church is for the ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐บ๐ฝ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ต๐๐บ๐ฎ๐ป ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ถ๐ป๐ด๐, not celestial beings.
Alexander Yanga passed away on February 8, 1991, but his legacy lives in every Halleluyah we shout. As we remember him today via ๐๐ฒ๐น๐ฒ๐๐๐ถ๐ฎ๐น ๐ ๐ฒ๐ฑ๐ถ๐ฎ ๐ง๐ฒ๐น๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป, let us heed the message of his hymn: let us stop focusing on the outward show of spirituality and start working on the ๐ฝ๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ณ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ผ๐๐ฟ ๐๐ผ๐๐น๐.
