OPEN DAY!!!
THE MEETINGS are here already. Some had theirs last week and some will have theirs this week. I understand that schools, and sometimes parents, expect teachers to communicate in a “nice” way. That is important. But let me draw a thin line here: the line between lying and telling the truth is very, very thin.
Dear teachers, professionalism matters, but truth matters even more. You have the capacity to communicate the truth, and it is your responsibility to do so in a respectful and courteous way. Your feedback right now can help children thrive with the support of their parents. If you turn a blind eye just to avoid being labeled “that teacher,” you are not meeting the child’s needs.
Remember the story of Esther’s uncle, Mordecai: “If you don’t help us, salvation will come from somewhere else.” As teachers, God has placed you in a position to set things right for the child.
*Be objective. Pray for utterance to speak correctly, in the right tone, without sentiment. Pray for entrance, so your words are not misinterpreted.* Consider carefully what positives you will highlight, and what challenges or suggestions will help the child achieve more.
Do not sugarcoat, do not stay silent. Speak the truth, trusting God to guide your words for the benefit of both students and parents.
The Lord will give us wisdom in this season. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
