Hamzat Seeks Prayers, Support of C&S Church
The Lagos State Deputy Governor and the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate for the 2027 election, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has sought the prayers and spiritual guidance of the leadership of the Cherubim and Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria ahead of the poll.
Hamzat made the appeal when he visited the ecclesiastical council of the church on Saturday at its International Headquarters along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Asese, Ogun State.
According to a report by the church on Monday, the Deputy Governor urged Lagos residents to continue to have faith in the APC-led administration, saying the party would sustain the development strides recorded in the state.
Quoting the biblical passage, “Except the Lord builds the house, they labour in vain that build it,” Hamzat said his visit to religious leaders across the state was part of efforts to seek divine guidance ahead of the 2027 election.
He said, “We are here because we have started our journey with the belief that we need to seek the face of God. We are visiting religious leaders in the state to pray for us and seek their support as we move towards 2027.
“We seek spiritual guidance, wise counsel and prayers. Hence, our visit to you, our leaders, is to support us all the way so that Lagos State will continue to grow.”
Speaking on behalf of the Ecclesiastical Council, His Eminence Baba Aladura Emmanuel Omoniyi Owomoyela congratulated Hamzat on his emergence as the APC’s candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
Owomoyela recalled that the Cherubim and Seraphim Church had partnered successive administrations in the development of Lagos State, noting that the church was founded in the state in 1925.
He, however, stressed that the church remained apolitical despite welcoming Hamzat’s endorsement by his party.
“As a church, we are apolitical, yet we are pleased with your endorsement by your party. We encourage you to remember that leadership is a sacred trust.
“Public office is not merely a position of honour but a call to selfless service. We therefore urge you, if entrusted with the mandate of the people, to govern with the fear of God, fairness to all citizens without discrimination, transparency in public affairs and unwavering commitment to the development of every community,” he said.
Owomoyela also assured the APC candidate of the church’s continued involvement in the electoral process.
He said the church would continue to mobilise its members to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards, participate peacefully in elections and vote conscientiously for leaders and policies that would promote development and good governance in Lagos.
“The Cherubim and Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria stands ready to be a dependable partner—not only in prayer but also in service, mobilisation, advocacy, youth and women empowerment and nation-building,” he added.
Hamzat was accompanied on the visit by former federal lawmaker and APC leader in Lagos State, Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon; the deputy governorship candidate, Princess Damilola Sonayon-James; former Minister of State for Defence and APC chieftain, Ambassador Musiliu Obanikoro; and the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Christian Religion, Rev. Bukola Adeleke, among other party leaders.
The church delegation included a member of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council, Baba Aladura Reuben Olorunfunmi Bashorun; the Lagos State APC Chairman, Snr. Apostle (Hon.) Cornelius Ojelabi; Chairman of the National Executive Council of the church, His Grace, Elder Pro. S.A.O. Adeoye; Secretary-General, Snr. Apostle Tayo Ajose; and Vice Baba Aladura of the Praying Band, L.A.V.O. Osinnowo.
Others present included the Founder of Love of Christ Generation Church, Rev. Mother Abimbola Esther Ajayi; Primate Johnson Koledola Kunlipe; Bishop Oluwademilade Akpata; Most Snr. Elder Apostle Gbenga Aluko; Elder Apostle Bola Odubela; Most Snr. Special Apostle Adebisi Adedire; Special Apostle Segun Adio; Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the church, Snr.
