One of the major ways people become familiar with God is through continuous exposure without engagement. Constantly hearing the Word without practicing it gradually dulls the heart. The truth that was meant to transform you becomes ordinary, and familiarity begins to replace reverence.

As you practice His Word, your heart remains tender, your reverence for Him is preserved, and you position yourself to continually receive from your Father.

When you come to God in prayer, after understanding that He is your Father and He dwells in heaven, the next thing is to hallow His name.

To hallow God’s name is to approach Him with reverence and honor. This keeps familiarity out of your relationship with Him. In our natural, fallen state, we easily become familiar with what we are constantly exposed to, and familiarity often destroys honor.

If you will continually receive from God your Father, you must consciously guard against familiarity.
