DIVINE SEPARATION

By God’s design, valuable resources are hidden beneath the surface of the earth. Those who will access these resources must mine rigorously to bring them out.
Proverbs 25:2 — “It is the glory of God to conceal a thing…”
Sacred and valuable things are often separated, hidden, or kept securely. Even as human beings, it is normal for us to separate valuable things and keep them in a safe place.
What Is Divine Separation?
Divine separation is a purposeful act by God to set an individual apart from worldly systems, toxic relationships, distractions, or anything that may hinder His purpose, in order to prepare that individual for a higher spiritual purpose.
There are many distractions in this world.
Whenever God separates a person, it is often to refine, protect, and give clarity for something He intends to accomplish through that person.
The Scriptures are filled with instances where God called people into a journey of separation.
Genesis 12:1 — The Call of Abraham
God called Abraham to leave his country, his kindred, and his father’s house and go to a land that He would show him.
There is no way God will call a person without bringing about some form of separation. Separation brings clarity, protection, and preparation for what God intends to do.
If you do not intentionally engage in healthy spiritual separation, distractions can gain access to your mind and influence your focus, decisions, and spiritual sensitivity.
The call to separation also serves as a form of preservation.
Israel in Goshen
God separated His people and preserved them in Goshen.
Why did God preserve them in Goshen?
It was a place of protection and preservation. It helped them remain distinct from the surrounding Egyptian system, foreign gods, and practices.
There was a need to preserve their identity and spiritual clarity: Our God is not their god.
The blood on the doorposts became a seal of separation and protection for God’s people.
THREE KINDS OF SEPARATION THE BIBLE TEACHES
1. Positional Separation
Every believer in Christ has been separated positionally.
Because we are in Christ, we have been transferred from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light.
We are seated with Him because we are in Him. Our position has changed—from darkness to light, from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of God’s dear Son.
This separation is established by our relationship with Christ.
2. Experiential Separation
God can separate us for a divine assignment.
This involves separation from worldly systems, patterns, influences, and the waves of the world.
Acts 13 shows us that among those who were already believers and serving God, there were those who were specifically separated for a particular assignment.
It is not enough that we have salvation; we must also understand how we are expected to conduct ourselves as people who have been separated unto God.
God must be experienced in our daily lives.
There are boundaries.
We do not simply do whatever we feel like doing. Our conduct, choices, relationships, and lifestyle must reflect the fact that we belong to God.
Experiential separation is the practical expression of our spiritual position.
3. Entire Separation
Malachi 3:18
There is a distinction between those who serve God and those who do not.
Entire separation speaks of a life that is completely distinguished for God—a life in which there is a clear difference between those who belong to God and those who do not.
God’s purpose in separation is not merely to remove us from something; it is to prepare us for something.
When God separates you, He is refining you, protecting you, preserving you, and giving you clarity for the assignment He has prepared for you.
