Sermon titled: THE LION IN A Man.
Text: Eccl.9:4 “For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion”.
Being a sermon delivered on Sunday June 27, 2021
BY BRO. ELIJAH ABIRE
Introduction
What is the lion in a man? Sometimes I wonder when some people shout at others, when some boast, fight or quarrel. Some will look very innocent from afar but when you get closer to them or you mistakenly march their legs, you will see a lion roaring from them.
Where is the lion in a man? He forgets that he is just a vapour. James 4:14
The lion is one of the most dangerous animals in the forest. It shouts for all. Hardly can any other animal destroy it. It kills other animals and terrorize them. Even human beings cannot go close. It is feared. Acts20:29;
But the irony is that soon it is old, and then you find it hiding. It does not roar again, it does not hunt for other animals again. It eats the left overs of animals that younger lions have kill and consumed.

The Hyenas are then able to corner the old lion and eat it alive. Where is the lion in a man? This is why Solomon said in our text Eccl.9:4 “For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion”.
“Will a lion roar in the forest, when he hath no prey? will a young lion cry out of his den, if he have taken nothing?” Amos 3:4
Remember that one day you will be old and unable to bark again. One day death will come and all your strength, the lion heart, the stubborn soul, etc will disappear. 1Cor.15:42-43.

THE LION IN THE MAN
David described the lion in a man like this: “My soul is among lions: and I lie even among them that are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword”.
But David here was not referring to the animal called lions but to wicked men as lions.
The lion in the man is likely to be in his mouth, the heart, the eyes, the legs and the hands. All these are used by evil men and women in dangerous means to destroy like the lion.
The lion in a man is likely to be in the money he has, the men in her life, the women in his life, the group he belongs (such as cults, coven or some evil societies). Our people used to say when a woman has a lion heart, it is either she is rich, adulterous or is a witch. Where is the lion in a man?
Prov.20:30 “This is the way of an adulterous woman: She eats and wipes her mouth, And says, “I have done no wickedness.”
Stop lying, you won’t hear
Stop fornicating and adultery, you won’t hear
Stop malice, you won’t hear
Stop chatting with your phone in Church, you won’t hear
Stop yahoo yahoo, you won’t hear
Stop insulting people, you won’t hear
Come to Jesus, you won’t hear because you are still strong.
Prov.14:12 “There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death”.
One day you will die. One day you will face the judgment seat of Christ. 2Cor.5:10

THE CHRISTIAN’S HEART
1. A Christian’s heart is a humble heart. The lion heart is not for a Christian. The Christian heart is a quiet heart, meek and gentle. Matt.10:16 “Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves”. 1 Pet.3:4 “But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price”
2. A Christian’s heart is a forgiving heart: Col.3:13 “Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye”
3. A Christian’s heart is not a quarrelsome heart. 1Tim.3:3
4. A Christian’s heart is not a sexually immoral heart. Read 2 Peter 2:13-14.
5. A Christian’s conscience must be soft to repent but hard to corrupt. 1Tim.4:2 “Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron”.

CONCLUSION
YOU NEED TO KILL THE LION IN YOU SO THAT CHRIST CAN BE FORMED IN YOU. THE LION IS STRONG BUT GROWS OLD. THE LION IS STRONG BUT DIES. NO ONE IS STRONG EXCEPT GOD. TODAY IS THE DAY OF SALVATION. HUMBLE YOURSELF BEFORE GOD. SOFTEN YOUR HEARTS. REPENT AND BE BAPTIZED IF YOU ARE NOT YET A CHRISTIAN.
THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS

HOW MUCH CLEARER CAN IT GET?
There is One Body (church) with Many Parts (members).
Read for yourself what the Bible says...
1 Corinthians 12:12-26
12 The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ.
13 Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit.
14 Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part.
15 If the foot says, “I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand,” that does not make it any less a part of the body.
16 And if the ear says, “I am not part of the body because I am not an eye,” would that make it any less a part of the body?
17 If the whole body were an eye, how would you hear? Or if your whole body were an ear, how would you smell anything?
18 But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it.
19 How strange a body would be if it had only one part!
20 Yes, there are many parts, but only one body.
21 The eye can never say to the hand, “I don’t need you.” The head can’t say to the feet, “I don’t need you.”
22 In fact, some parts of the body that seem weakest and least important are actually the most necessary.
23 And the parts we regard as less honorable are those we clothe with the greatest care. So we carefully protect those parts that should not be seen,
24 while the more honorable parts do not require this special care. So God has put the body together such that extra honor and care are given to those parts that have less dignity. 25 This makes for harmony among the members, so that all the members care for each other.
26 If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad.
What more can I say? There is ! There is and Jesus is the founder, builder, head, bridegroom, Savior, purchaser of it! It is the church of Christ and you need to surrender to God, obey the gospel of Christ and become part of it!
Amen. Thank you - Bro . Winston S Chambers. Rightly dividing the word of God to you.

DOCTRINES THAT MAKES THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST UNNECESSARY
1. Universal Salvation
Some hold to the idea that everyone will be saved in the final day, hardened criminals along with sweet innocent babies. Hell is not a pretty doctrine, but it is in the Bible. In fact, the Greek word meaning eternal punishment is used twelve times in the New Testament (Matthew 5:22,29,30; 10:28; 18:9;23:15,33; Mark 9:43,45,47; Luke 12:5; James 3:6).
It should be noted that our Lord Jesus Christ used this word eleven of the twelve times. He is the one who taught about eternal punishment. Some will be lost, and that makes universal salvation a false doctrine. If finally all will be saved, it would be useless to preach the Gospel to save them. There are conditions for salvation, and those who obey will be saved.
2. Calvin’s Concept of Predestination and Election
This is the belief that before the foundation of the world, God chose individuals. If we are one of the elect (chosen), we will be saved, and we can do nothing to be lost. If we are one of the non-elect, we will be lost, and there is nothing we can do to be saved.
The choosing that God did before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4, 5) was not individuals, but was for those in Christ to be holy and blameless in love. If the elect will be saved anyway, and the lost can do nothing to be saved,
3. Direct Operation of the Holy Spirit
This is the view that the Holy Spirit separate and apart from the Word of God, comes to the individual and converts the sinner. I have never seen it happen. In Africa and India, I have never seen a Christian in a backward village, unless a Gospel preacher had been there and preached the truth. When people hear, believe, and obey the Gospel, they have been converted by the Holy Spirit. “The seed is the word of God” (Luke 8:11). The Holy Spirit gives life to the Word, and people are converted by the Word. That is why Jesus said, “… preach the gospel to every creature.” There are no Christians where the Gospel has not gone.
If the Holy Spirit will convert one person directly, why does He not convert everyone? If He converts one but not all, would He be a respecter of persons?
4. The Belief that All Religions Are Just Different Roads to Heaven
We live in a very tolerant age. We certainly ought to be kind, patient, and considerate, but not to the extent that we disregard and reject the very Book that will one day be the standard by which we will be judged (Revelation 20:12).
If I know my heart, I want everyone to be saved and none to be lost. However, reality says that will not be the case. Jesus taught, “and these shall go away into everlasting punishment; but the righteous into life eternal” (Matthew 25:46).
The way we live determines our destiny. Our Lord stressed this point. “Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation ” (John 5:28, 29).
I have the deepest respect for the sincere Hindu, Muslim, and even the cults. A person is not wrong because he does not agree with me, and he is not right because he does agree with me. What is the standard of right and wrong? Hear Jesus: “Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven ” (Matthew 7:21).
If all religions lead to heaven, that would make Gospel preaching unnecessary for those in any kind of religion. Our Lord did not come to make people religious, but to set people right religiously. The written Word of God is our guide to take us from this world to the next. Only truth can do that. “And we shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32).

WHAT IS THE BREATH OF LIFE?

"The climax of God’s creative work was His extraordinary creation of man.

“The LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and
breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living being” (Genesis 2:7).

The supreme Creator of heaven
and earth did two (2) things in
creating man.

First, He formed him from the very dust of the ground, and,

Second, He breathed His own breath into the nostrils of Adam (Man).

This distinguished man from all of God’s other creatures.

This one (1) passage (Genesis 2:7) contains three (3) significant facts about man’s creation.

The first is that God and God alone created man.

Second, God breathed His own breath of life into man. Man is more than “dust”. Man has a spirit. God is the Source of life, and He directly placed life within
man.

This life-giving breath is seen again in John 20:22, as Jesus imparts new life to His disciples.
Third, Genesis 2:7 tells us that man became a living soul (KJV).

The only question is where
we will live/spend our eternity? Eccl. 12:7,13,14.

Question:
Recently someone said they found a contradiction in the New Testament. They said Acts 2:21 and Romans 10:13 say that all who call in the name of the Lord will be saved. Then Matthew 7:21 says that not all who call upon him will be saved. Then in Acts 2:39 it says that only those the Lord chooses will be saved. I was wondering what your response would be.

Answer :
As most linguists will tell you, one of the difficulty in translating from one language to another is caused by idioms in a language. Idioms are phrases that really don't say what they
mean, but native speakers understand them without much thought. A popular example from English is "It's raining
cats and dogs" to mean there is a torrential downpour going on outside. In the Bible times, "in the name of" was a way to say "by the authority of" or "with the authorization of". We still use
the phrase when you hear on a show, "Stop in the name of the law!" The phrase means the person is being ordered to stop, not because someone feels like stopping them, but because
the law authorizes the person to
demand another person stop. You can see this when Peter is asked, " By what power or by what name have you done this? " ( Acts 4:7 ). Peter's response was that it was " by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth " ( Acts 4:10 ). Peter was saying he had the authority given to him by Jesus to perform the miracle.
Perhaps you noticed in several Bible translations the word "iniquity." The word literally means going against thename. In Greek it is a compound word
of "against" and "name." Thus, iniquity means acting without authority, lawlessness, or sin.
To "call on the name" is to claim a right issued by the authority of another person. When Paul was about to be sent to Jerusalem, he made an appeal: "For if I am an offender, or have committed anything deserving of death,
I do not object to dying; but if there is nothing in these things of which these men accuse me, no one can deliver me to them. I appeal to Caesar" ( Acts 25:11 ). In Greek, the word Paul used
that is translated "appeal to" literally means "call upon the name of". Therefore, " And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved " ( Acts 2:21 ) means that whoever appeals to the authority of the Lord will be saved. You can't claim a right to something the Lord authorized
while simultaneously going against what the Lord commands. We can see this
when Paul was baptized. " And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord " ( Acts 22:16 ). By being baptized, Paul appealed to the authority of the Lord to be saved. Not just because a person says he is making an appeal, it doesn't follow that
he really is doing so. People are known to lie. Jesus asked this thought provoking question: " But why do you call Me 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do the things
which I say? " ( Luke 6:46 ). The problem for some is that their words don't match their deeds. This is what Jesus addressed in Matthew, " Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' And then I will
declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!' "(Matthew 7:21-23). Notice the last word, "lawlessness," is that same word that means going against the name. People were appealing to the Lord, but their deeds were contrary to what the Lord authorized. By the way, you probably learned this as a child. If you ever tried to tell an adult, "But mom said I could have a
cookie!" (and she didn't), when she found out about it, you likely got into big trouble. " Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let
every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to
your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call " ( Acts 2:38-39 ). Peter stated that people who repented and were baptized
would be forgiven of sins and receive the gift of salvation from the Holy Spirit (see also Ephesians 1:13-14 ). This promise was offered to everyone: this generation and all succeeding ones, this immediate audience and all across the world -- as many as God calls to
Himself. In fact, the Greek word that is translated "church" literally means "the called out." " But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you
may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now
have obtained mercy " ( I Peter 2:9-10 ). The method God chose to accomplish this calling is through the Gospel. " But we are bound to give thanks to God
always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in
the truth, to which He called you by our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ" ( II Thessalonians 2:13-14 ). That gospel is for all people. "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek " ( Romans 1:16 ). Therefore, when Peter said, "as many as the Lord our God will call" it is really a roundabout way to say "everyone" but it emphasizes that this is God's choice and not man. It became a critical issue
early on in the church when some wanted to claim that people had to become Jews to be saved. Peter pointed to the example of Cornelius' conversion to point out that God
offered Gentiles salvation as Gentiles and not as Jews. The Jews could not limit whom God calls. Hence, what you have is someone who did not understand the meaning of the
terms in the Bible to draw a conclusion that the Bible contradicted itself. Since we are able to show a way of understanding the verses, without stretching anything out of context, that doesn't lead to a contradiction, the claim of self-contradiction is false.
