Striving earnestly towards accurate biblical interpretation.

It is important that we insist on and emphasise the place of correct biblical interpretation alongside the need for Bible study. It's not just sufficient to study the Bible, but also to interpret the same correctly. A Workman needs not to be ashamed not just because he reads the word but because he rightly divides the word of truth.

To rightly divide - orthotomeo in the Greek, which means to cut through, to cut straight, I would compare it to a doctor who clinically dissects a patient in surgery. So to accurately divide would mean to clinically and carefully handle the word of God. It is a delicate procedure that requires skill and training, and it must be meticulously done.

Wrong interpretation of the Scriptures has grave consequences. Attention must be given to correct biblical interpretation. Listen. SOUND DOCTRINE IS A PRODUCT OF CORRECT BIBLICAL INTERPRETATION Twisting the Bible to suit your preconceived notions or biases could be highly detrimental personally, congregationally and transgenerationally.

I write this piece just to inform us of some deadly consequences of a poor approach to Bible interpretation. False teachings and twisting can be highly destructive. It has led to several pains and agony, even as far as death.

A man named Larry Parker, under the tutelage of a "faith preacher" (who wrongly taught faith healing by taking the verses out of context), stopped administering Insulin (injection for diabetics) to his diabetic son. The boy eventually died. In regret and remorse, the Man later wrote a heart-wrenching book titled _WE LET OUR SON DIE_

Blood transfusions have long been outlawed by the WatchTower Society, this is due to a wrong interpretation of some verses in Leviticus as regards ingesting blood supplies which was a Pagan practice prohibited by the Law. For this cause, they carry a signed card stating that they should not be transfused with blood even when found unconscious. Many have died as a result of this, even innocent children and babies.

A movement arose some time ago in Korea in the 1990s, the End time Theory (Jong Mal Ron), based their teachings on misinterpretations of 1 Thess 4:13 - 17 and other eschatological verses. They set a specific day for the rapture and also believed that if you were too heavy, you wouldn't be carried up during the rapture 😂😪😡🤦‍♀️ some pregnant women aborted because of this.🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

These are just a few mentions of what misinterpretation of scriptures can do. Time will fail me to list out even more contemporary scenarios of errors due to misinterpreted scriptures. Many practices in certain circles and denominations in the name of deliverance, healing, prophetic actions, holiness, consecration etc are deeply rooted in wrong biblical interpretations.

That it was DESCRIBED in the Bible, does not mean it was PRESCRIBED
That it's written in the Bible does not ultimately mean it must be practised.
That's where accurate interpretation comes in.

Brethren, strive to Rightly divide the Word of Truth.

And he said, My Presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest. Exodus 33:14

Read : Exodus 33:12-17

12 And Moses said unto the LORD, See, thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people: and thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send with me. Yet thou hast said, I know thee by name, and thou hast also found grace in my sight.

13 Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people.

14 And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.

15 And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.

16 For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth.

17 And the LORD said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name.

Message

Only a fool would think that he or she can exist independent of God, who is the Maker of the heavens and the earth and all that is in them (Romans 1:20-22). Moses, the servant of God, knew this and he consequently did not make the mistake of doing anything without God’s approval. In today’s Bible reading, he insisted on the presence of God going with them as they journeyed through the wilderness to the Promised Land.

There is this story of three fishes in the sea living under the threat of sharks. They went to the Almighty God to ask for help concerning the danger of death looming over them.
The first fish asked God for many eyes so that it could see sharks approaching from any direction and escape to safety. The second fish demanded for wings so that it could fly away from the reach of sharks whenever they came after it. The third fish only asked for the presence of the Almighty God wherever it went. The Lord granted all their requests, and they swam away happily. Not long after, sharks came after the first fish, and immediately with its many eyes, it saw them coming! It took a jump into a nearby pond where the sharks could not go and began to laugh at the sharks. However, the water in the pond soon began to dry up and this fish died. The second fish also saw sharks coming for it, because it had been granted wings, it flew like a bird out of the water, but only to be caught in the air by an eagle flying by. So, the second fish ended up in the stomach of an eagle, which was happily surprised to have a delicious fish as its mid-flight meal. In contrast to these, the third fish, which had wisely requested the presence of the Lord, went swimming about without any fear of death from ferocious sharks. It was basking in the protection that comes with carrying the presence of the Lord. When the mother-shark would not go after it, the baby-shark asked its mother, “Why don’t we eat this beautiful fish?” The mother-shark cautioned it against entertaining such ideas, pointing to the shadow of the Almighty God following the fish everywhere.

Beloved, all that you need to succeed and have breakthroughs this year is God’s Presence in your life. I therefore encourage you to give your life totally to God through Jesus Christ. For His Presence to envelope your life, you need to walk daily with Him by fellowshipping with Him in the place of prayer and worship, and by framing your every thought around His Word. If you are faithful in doing this, He will abide with you, and you will live in safety throughout this year and beyond (Psalm 91:1-2).

Key Point:
The God that creates is the One that prospers, and He is the One that protects. Seek and ask for His Presence in all that you do from today.

HYMN 2 : I NEED THEE EVERY HOUR

I need Thee every hour,
Most gracious Lord;
No tender voice like Thine
Can peace afford.

Chorus:
I need Thee, oh, I need Thee;
Every hour I need Thee;
Oh, bless me now, my Savior!
I come to Thee.

2. I need Thee every hour,
Stay Thou near by;
Temptations lose their power
When Thou art nigh.

3. I need Thee every hour,
In joy or pain;
Come quickly and abide,
Or life is vain.

4. I need Thee every hour,
Teach me Thy will;
And Thy rich promises
In me fulfil.

THEME : THANK YOU FATHER!

Memorise:

Bless The Lord, O my Soul, and forget not all his benefits: Psalm 103:2

Read : Psalm 150:1-6

1: Praise ye the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary:

2: Praise him in the firmament of his power. Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.

3: Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp.

4: Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.

5: Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.

6: Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.

Message

King Hezekiah declared a profound truth when he testified that only the living can praise the Lord ( Isaiah 38:19 ). Children of God, as living spirits, we have many reasons to be thankful for. Whenever I consider the lovingkindness of God and His tender mercies, demonstrated through protection, providence, love, forgiveness, healing, good health and, above all else, salvation of the soul, I always come to the conclusion that indeed the Lord has been very gracious to His children. No wonder the Holy Spirit, in Psalm 150:2, succinctly instructs us to

“Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.”

This is so important that in Psalm 103:1-5, David counsels his own soul to bless the Lord in thanksgiving, admonishing himself not to forget any one of God’s benefits. In other words, there is tendency for us to forget all that the Lord has done for us. Nevertheless, we have no reason to be ungrateful to God, because His goodness forever flows to us. Prophet Jeremiah testifies of this truth in Lamentations 3:22-23, saying:

“It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”

Moreover, what is our joy as children of God? It is the assurance of better tomorrow: the assurance of better year ahead of us. Only those who are saved by the grace that is in Christ Jesus have this assurance. Declaring this assurance, the Holy Spirit in Isaiah 3:10 says,

“Say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings. “

Who is the righteous? The righteous is the one who has accepted Jesus Christ as his or her personal Lord and Saviour. The righteousness of Christ is bestowed upon such person because they believe and have appropriated the ransom paid on their behalf by the Lord Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God who took away the sins of the world ( John 1:29 ). God is saying to you that you should be grateful to Him for all He has done for you in the past, particularly in the just concluded year . If you remain thankful, your tank of blessings shall be full as you go into the New Year. However, not giving your life to the One who paid the supreme price for your salvation is the greatest form of ingratitude. Therefore, repent and give your life to Christ today! He will be your Shepherd and you shall want nothing throughout the New Year and in the years to come. Hallelujah!

Action point:
Thank the Lord for all His goodness and mercies over your life in the past; give your life to Him afresh and renew your commitment to serve Him in holiness and perfect obedience in this New Year.

MESSAGE :
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be
baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus
Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall
receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. " Acts 2 : 38.
For anyone who wants to partake of salvation
from sin, Satan and the world,
God requires genuine, heartfelt repentance. In
Acts 2 : 37, after preaching to the multitudes, they
asked Peter, "What shall we do?" He simply
replied, "Repent and be water-baptized, and you
will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." From his
response, we understand that the Spirit of life
Himself is a gift, and that if you will have Him,
you must start from the place of repentance. If
you want to experience the move of the Spirit in
your life, begin with repentance. Repentance is
the foundation stone on which faith in Christ is
built. Anyone who claims to be a servant of God
but who did not start from the place of
repentance is only engaging in self deception.
Examine yourself today. Are you
saved? Have you truly repented?
After you have successfully laid the foundation of
repentance, your conscience
will be purged by the Blood of Jesus and made to
come alive through the prompting of the Holy
Spirit ( Hebrews 9 : 14, Romans 9 : 1 ) ; to the
extent that if you as much as tell a lie, you won't
get away with it. You will remain troubled until
you confess and restitute the lie. If you are never
under the pressure of the Holy Spirit to make
right your wrong deeds, you can be sure that
something is wrong with your foundation. Many
years ago, while travelling to Lagos from Ilesha
( South-West, Nigeria ), I forgot to buy a gift for
my father in the Lord. By the time I got to
Surulere, Lagos, I realised this oversight and so I
bought some oranges to give to him from there.
As Papa peeled and sucked the oranges, he
said, "These oranges are sweet. You must have
bought them on the way." "Yes sir", I replied. The
Holy Spirit said to me, "You just lied." My
response to this was "How did I lie? Roadside is
roadside, whether at Surulere or between Ilesha
and Lagos." The Spirit then said, "You know his
question meant whether you bought them on
your way from llesha to Lagos." I replied, "Does it
matter? Does this affect the sweetness of the
oranges?" The Spirit insisted, You have lied." So l
turned to my father in the Lord and told him l
bought the oranges at Surulere, Lagos and not on
my way from llesha, and Papa exclaimed, "Holy
Spirit!" He knew the Spirit was dealing with me.
Does this same Holy Spirit deal with you when
you lie or sin? If your conscience is not
responding to the pricks of the Holy Spirit, it
means you have strayed from Him.
PRAYER POINT : Father, quicken every part of my
conscience that has been seared by persistent
disobedience.

HYMN 7: O JESUS, I HAVE PROMISED.
1. O Jesus, I have promised,
To serve Thee to the end;
Be Thou forever near me,
My Master and my Friend;
I shall not fear the battle
If Thou art by my side,
Nor wander from the pathway
If Thou wilt be my Guide.
2. Oh, let me hear Thee speaking,
In accents clear and still,
I dare not trust my judgment:
Thy way shall be my will;
Oh, speak to reassure me,
To hasten or control;
Oh, speak, and make me listen,
Thou Guardian of my soul.
3. O Jesus, Thou hast promised
To all who follow Thee
That where Thou art in glory
There shall Thy servant be;
And Jesus, I have promised
To serve Thee to the end;
Oh, give me grace to follow,
My Master and my Friend.
4. Oh, let me see Thy footmarks,
And in them plant mine own;
My hope to follow duly
Is in Thy strength alone.
Oh, guide me, call me, draw me,
Uphold me to the end;
And then in Heav'n receive me,
My Savior and my Friend.

MESSAGE :
Some people make all kinds of vows, pledges
and promises before they receive the blessings of
God, but after they experience the blessings, they
make no move to keep their promise, redeem
their vow or honour the verbal commitment they
made to God. If you bare one of such people,
repent now and make good your promises. If we
take a close look at the patriarchs of old, we will
find really determined people to learn from
amongst them. Take for instance David. He was
just a shepherd boy when the Almighty God
picked him up and blessed him. What did he do
with the blessings? He determined in his heart to
build a temple for God, but God said to him,
“Your hands are full of blood because you are a
warrior. I cannot allow a soldier like you to build
me a temple.” Then he replied, “Lord, if You will
not allow me to build You a temple, I will provide
most of the money needed to do it, while you
can set someone else to supervise the building.”
In 1 Chronicles 22 : 14 - 15, we see David fulfilling
his promise to God on this. His heart was there.
Most of the gold, silver, bronze and other
materials that Solomon needed to build the house
of God were provided by David.
Moreover, if you look closely at the events in 2
Samuel 24 : 22 - 24, you will discover something
about David’s attitude towards giving. As a
matter of principle, he never gave God a casual
offering. Anytime he had the opportunity to give
offering to God, he gave substantially and did it
sacrificially. He delighted in giving wholesomely
to God. No wonder he was blessed beyond
measure, financially and materially. If you add up
what he singlehandedly gave for the building of
the temple in today’s terms, you can safely say
he was a billionaire. He gave 3,400 metric tons of
gold, 34,000 metric tons of silver and so much
bronze that it could not be weighed. What is your
attitude towards giving? Do you wait to be
pushed, compelled or begged before you give to
God? What is the most valuable thing you have
ever given to God? Are you still in the practice of
giving to God only when you can afford to?
When you receive God’s exponential blessings,
they will be more than what you can handle.
They will go far beyond what you need. What
then do you want to do with such blessings?
Have you told God about it? Do you have a
burden or vision for the Kingdom of God that
you will pursue?
ACTION POINT : God is the greatest giver, and if
you have His nature, you will give sacrificially like
Him.

BLESSING
1. There shall be showers of blessing:
This is the promise of love;
There shall be seasons refreshing,
Sent from the Savior above.
[Chorus]
Showers of blessing,
Showers of blessing we need:
Mercy drops ‘round us are falling,
But for the showers we plead.
2. There shall be showers of blessing--
Precious reviving again;
Over the hills and the valleys,
Sound of abundance of rain.
[Chorus]
3. There shall be showers of blessing:
Send them upon us, O Lord;
Grant to us now a refreshing;
Come, and now honor Thy Word.
[Chorus]
4. There shall be showers of blessing:
Oh, that today they might fall,
Now as to God we're confessing,
Now as on Jesus we call!

"And that ye put on the new man, which after
God is created in righteousness and true
holiness."Ephesians 4:24
Read: Ephesians 4:17-24 (KJV)
17. This I say therefore, and testify in The Lord,
that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles
walk, in the vanity of their mind,
18. Having the understanding darkened, being
alienated from The Life of God through the
ignorance that is in them, because of the
blindness of their heart:
19. Who being past feeling have given
themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all
uncleanness with greediness.
20. But ye have not so learned Christ;
21. If so be that ye have heard Him, and have
been taught by Him, as The Truth is in Jesus:
22. That ye put off concerning the former
conversation the old man, which is corrupt
according to the deceitful lusts;
23. And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
24. And that ye put on The New Man, which after
God is created in Righteousness and True
Holiness.
MESSAGE:
A. An encounter with Jesus Christ is such a
powerful experience that it can bring about a
change of name.
1. Mark 3:16 "Simon, to whom He gave the name
Peter;
2. This change of name indicates a change of
destiny.
3. His Power of Transformation changes you
from a sinner to a saint.
4. Romans 1:7 "To all who are in Rome, beloved
of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and
peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus
Christ.
5. There is no greater change than that of a
changed life made possible by The Redeeming
Power in The Blood of Jesus Christ.
6. If you were known as a night crawler before
encountering Jesus, you will become known as a
more responsible person after encountering Him.
7. The truth is, if you really encounter Jesus
Christ, you will lose most of your old friends
because it would be difficult for them to relate
with the new you.
8. They won’t understand you anymore, because
9. You won’t talk the way you used to talk,
10. You won’t drink like you used to drink or
11. You won’t even dress the way they dress.
12. Following a definite encounter with The
Person of Jesus Christ, what You like and hate will
change, so much so that if you fail to leave your
old friends, they will be the ones to desert you.
13. If you say you are born again, and all of your
old pals still feel comfortable around you, your
salvation is most likely not genuine.
C. Before I became Born Again, I had many
friends, some of whom were sailors.
1. When they returned from their trips, they
brought me assorted alcoholic drinks.
2. Therefore, when my friends wanted to drink
alcohol, they would visit me because they knew I
would have a lot in store.
3. They sometimes said they could not pass by
the house of the king without saying hello to the
king.
4. I never knew I was king of alcohol in those
days.
5. However, after my conversion, when my old
friends visited me, I would offer them soft drinks.
6. They would protest, saying that I already knew
the choice alcoholic drinks they normally
enjoyed, but I simply told them that I did not
stock such anymore.
7. Consequently, I lost most of my friends, but
today, God has given me like-minded, godly
people as replacements.
8. Have you truly encountered Jesus?
9. What changes have you noticed in your life?
10. Are you still keeping all your old friends, or
have they observed the changes in your life and
dumped you?
11. Sometimes, some people are afraid of losing
their old friends, and as a result, they do
everything to hide their new found faith from
them.
12. This is unacceptable in The Kingdom of God.
13. The reality is that if you have met Jesus, you
are linked to the greatest Friend anyone could
ever have.
14. You should be proud of that and let all your
friends know about it.
15. If you are ashamed of Him here on earth, He
too will be ashamed to talk about you in Heaven.
16. Mark 8:38 "For whoever is ashamed of Me
and My Words in this adulterous and sinful
generation, of him The Son of Man also will be
ashamed when He comes in The Glory of His
Father with The Holy Angels.”
Action Point:
Some people have bars in their houses. If you are
truly saved, such bars should not accommodate
any alcoholic drinks. Get rid of that alcohol!

fornication sinneth against his own body." 1
Corinthians 6:18
Read: Job 5:12-14, & 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 (KJV)
12. He disappointeth the devices of the crafty, so
that their hands cannot perform their enterprise.
13. He taketh the wise in their own craftiness: and
the counsel of the froward is carried headlong.
14. They meet with darkness in the day time, and
grope in the noonday as in the night.
1 Corinthians 6:18-20 (KJV)
18. Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is
without the body; but he that committeth
fornication sinneth against his own body.
19. What? know ye not that your body is The
Temple of The Holy Ghost which is in you, which
ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
20. For ye are bought with A Price: therefore
glorify God in Your Body, and in Your Spirit,
which are God's.
MESSAGE:
A. A conspiracy can be defined as a secret plan
by a group of persons to do something unlawful
or mischievous.
1. Whenever you agree or partner with one or
more persons to do something against God’s
Express Word or will, you are guilty of
conspiracy.
2. The attitude of The Holy Spirit towards
conspiracy is clear from His Judgement against
Ananias and Sapphira, who conspired to test Him
with their lie (Acts 5:1-11).
3. Ahithophel and Absalom also engaged in
conspiracy against the Lord’s Anointed, King
David.
4. 2 Samuel 15:12 "Then Absalom sent for
Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counselor, from
his city—from Giloh—while he offered sacrifices.
And the conspiracy grew strong, for the people
with Absalom continually increased in number."
5. They paid for this sin with their lives, and they
both died similar deaths through hanging (2
Samuel 17:23, 2 Samuel 18:9-14).
6. Do you know that many people still conspire
to lie to The Holy Spirit today?
7. When auditors are visiting some churches,
their pastors will connive with accountants to
present doctored records.
8. On arrival, when the auditor asks the
accountant if the books presented are the actual
financial records, they would affirm that they are.
9. That is conspiring to lie to The Holy Spirit!
10. Those who engage in conspiracy often die
together, just like it happened to Ananias and
Sapphira, Absalom and Ahithophel, and Korah,
Dathan and Abiram (Numbers 26:9-10).
11. This is where married couples need to be
extremely cautions.
12. If your spouse is going the way of
destruction, never follow him or her.
13. Do all you can to deliver him, but if the fellow
refuses, let him or her take the evil step alone.
14. Are you engaged in a conspiracy to defraud
your employer or government?
15. It’s time to pull out of such schemes and
repent.
B. In like manner, the Holy Spirit hates adultery
and fornication. Why?
1. It is because your body is The Temple of The
Holy Spirit. You are His Dwelling Place.
2. Adultery separates God from His temple. It
keeps God outside His throne in your heart.
3. Some people erroneously think that they can
fornicate without affecting the presence of The
Holy Spirit in them.
4. No way! How can you expect the Holy Spirit,
Whose personality is defined by holiness, to
dwell in a body yielded to filthiness?
5. The Bible in James 4:4 says, “Ye adulterers and
adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of
the world is enmity with God? Whosoever
therefore will be a friend of the world is the
enemy of God.”
6. Fornication strips The Glory of God away from
you and clothes you in rags and shame.
7. There is nothing glorious about sexual sin.
8. It never adds anything to you; rather, it always
takes away your prized possessions.
9. Repent and flee fornication daily!
10. Whatever separates God from you is
something to resist by all means!
Action Point:
Confess and repent of any form of conspiracy or
sexual sins you are involved in. Break away from
every form of relationship that facilitates these.

58:13-59:15
AUTHOR: Pastor E. A. ADEBOYE
HYMN: ON THE HILL AWAY
1. On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
the emblem of suffering and shame;
and I love that old cross where the dearest and
best
for a world of lost sinners was slain.
Refrain:
So I'll cherish the old rugged cross,
till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
and exchange it some day for a crown.
2. O that old rugged cross, so despised by the
world,
has a wondrous attraction for me;
for the dear Lamb of God left his glory above
to bear it to dark Calvary. Refrain
3. In that old rugged cross, stained with blood so
divine,
a wondrous beauty I see,
for 'twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and
died,
to pardon and sanctify me. Refrain
4. To the old rugged cross I will ever be true;
its shame and reproach gladly bear;
then he'll call me some day to my home far
away,
where his glory forever I'll share. Refrain
