Striving earnestly towards accurate biblical interpretation.
It is important that we insist on and emphasise the place of correct biblical interpretation alongside the need for Bible study. It's not just sufficient to study the Bible, but also to interpret the same correctly. A Workman needs not to be ashamed not just because he reads the word but because he rightly divides the word of truth.
To rightly divide - orthotomeo in the Greek, which means to cut through, to cut straight, I would compare it to a doctor who clinically dissects a patient in surgery. So to accurately divide would mean to clinically and carefully handle the word of God. It is a delicate procedure that requires skill and training, and it must be meticulously done.
Wrong interpretation of the Scriptures has grave consequences. Attention must be given to correct biblical interpretation. Listen. SOUND DOCTRINE IS A PRODUCT OF CORRECT BIBLICAL INTERPRETATION Twisting the Bible to suit your preconceived notions or biases could be highly detrimental personally, congregationally and transgenerationally.
I write this piece just to inform us of some deadly consequences of a poor approach to Bible interpretation. False teachings and twisting can be highly destructive. It has led to several pains and agony, even as far as death.
A man named Larry Parker, under the tutelage of a "faith preacher" (who wrongly taught faith healing by taking the verses out of context), stopped administering Insulin (injection for diabetics) to his diabetic son. The boy eventually died. In regret and remorse, the Man later wrote a heart-wrenching book titled _WE LET OUR SON DIE_
Blood transfusions have long been outlawed by the WatchTower Society, this is due to a wrong interpretation of some verses in Leviticus as regards ingesting blood supplies which was a Pagan practice prohibited by the Law. For this cause, they carry a signed card stating that they should not be transfused with blood even when found unconscious. Many have died as a result of this, even innocent children and babies.
A movement arose some time ago in Korea in the 1990s, the End time Theory (Jong Mal Ron), based their teachings on misinterpretations of 1 Thess 4:13 - 17 and other eschatological verses. They set a specific day for the rapture and also believed that if you were too heavy, you wouldn't be carried up during the rapture đđŞđĄđ¤Śââď¸ some pregnant women aborted because of this.đ¤Śââď¸đ¤Śââď¸
These are just a few mentions of what misinterpretation of scriptures can do. Time will fail me to list out even more contemporary scenarios of errors due to misinterpreted scriptures. Many practices in certain circles and denominations in the name of deliverance, healing, prophetic actions, holiness, consecration etc are deeply rooted in wrong biblical interpretations.
That it was DESCRIBED in the Bible, does not mean it was PRESCRIBED
That it's written in the Bible does not ultimately mean it must be practised.
That's where accurate interpretation comes in.
Brethren, strive to Rightly divide the Word of Truth.
