Text: (Proverbs: 20: 1 ) says WINE is a mocker, strong drink is raging and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.
This highlights the negative effects of alcohol.
Strong drink is any beverages that intoxicates.
The bible warning against the dangers of excessive alcoholic drinks and beverages containing ethanol.
Alcoholic is a psychoactive substance produced by fermentation of sugars,
Example: include beer, wine, spirits ( like vodka, whiskey and other more.
In (Ephesians: 5:18) warns against getting drunk, and it says be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess, but be filled with the spirit.
There are common symbols associated with drunkenness.
In psalm: 69:12 says they that sit in the gate speak against me , and I was the song of the drunken Man.
his staggering: in (Job:12:25)says They grope in the dark without light, and he maketh them to stagger like a drunker man
his vomiting: (Jeremiah:25:27) says Therefore thou shall say unto them, thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel drink and be drunken and spew, and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you.
My heart is broken, all my bones shake, I am like a drunken man and like a man whom wine had overcome
Drunkenness is spoken in the bible to describe a helpless people whose ways have brought them punishment from the Lord's fury.
In (Isaiah:63:6) says And I will tread down the people in mine anger, and make them drunk in my fury and I will bring down their strength to the earth.
The wine of fornication: ( Revelation: 17:2) say With whom the Kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.
The effects of Alcoholic drinks on the body:
Liver damage: Heavy drinking can lead to liver cirrhosis, fibrosis, or cancer
Heart problem: Excessive drinking increase risk of heart disease, high blood pressure and stroke.
Brain damage: long-term use can impair cognitive function, memory, and coordination.
Addiction: Drinking too much can lead to dependance.
Increased Cancer risk: Link to cancers like liver, breast and colon cancer.
God instructed priests: in ( Leviticus: 10:9) and say Drink no wine or strong drink, you or your sons with you . when you go into the Tabernacle of the congratulation least you die. it shall be a statute for ever through out your generations.
This shows the importance of sobriety, most especially for those in spiritual leadership.
The bible speaks of drink in several symbol ways:
One can drink from the wells of salvation: ( lsaiah:12:3) says therefore with joy shall you draw water out of the wells of salvation.
One can drink from the blood of Jesus: (John:6:54-55) say whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life, and I, will raise him up at the last day.for my flesh is meat indeed and my blood is drink indeed
In ( John: 4:14) say But whosoever drinkerh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst, but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life ( Hallelujah)
All who are thirsty are invited to come and drink ( Revelation:22:17)
(Isaiah:55:1( and Revelation: 14:10) The sinful drink God's wrath. The wine of the wrath of God which is poured out without mixture into the cup of His indignation .
I pray for those are addicted with Alcoholic drink and drunk may the Almighty God deliver you and set you free from today in the name of Jesus.
