“Serra is a lay Catholic organization that promotes vocations to
priesthood and religious life, and helps me to be a better informed
layperson. Speakers at our meetings discuss current issues in the
church, and we are forming vocation awareness committees in
every parish in the area.”
Since 1935, Serra International has grown from the informal luncheon of four men in Seattle WA. to a global associ
ation of over 19,000 individuals in more than forty-six countries, including Nigeria. On May 3, 1951, Serra International was made part of the “Pontifical Work for Priestly Vocations within the Sacred Congregation for Seminaries and University Studies.”
Archbishop Emeritus, His Eminence, Anthony Cardinal Okogie introduced Serra to Nigeria in !989 with the formation of Serra Club of Lagos. The Lagos Club has since given birth to and chartered seventeen other clubs in Nigeria with more than ten clubs in-formation in different part of of the country , including Somolu. With the proliferation of clubs across the world, the Serra International Board of Trustees devised a means of easy monitoring and coordinating of the programmes of the clubs. That necessitated the creation of districts, areas and national councils in different countries. Currently there are three districts in Nigeria namely: Districts 130-A, 130-B, 130-C, each warehousing chartered and clubs in formation.
