Topic: *Ways of hearing from God* 1
Bible: Prov. 20:27
Introduction
God speaks to all his children but only few listen and many don’t even know what it means to hear. Hearing from God is the birthright of everyone that is in Christ Jesus. You need to understand this biblical fact “you are your number one prophets under the new covenant”. I have not personally figure out times, when God would jump people when it comes to personal life issues (IF THEY ARE WALKING IN THE WORD & SPIRIT ) and tells others what He wants to communicate with them except they are not sensitive to his leading.
Under the New Testament, there is no one time when Jesus sent any disciples to go and deliver a message to a believer or disciple. This does not mean it can’t happen but it forbids building a doctrine on the practice of such method. Everyone occupying a particular office is there to confirm what God has spoken to you maybe because you not listening or still doubting.
The major responsibility of the prophets in the church today is not for people to go to them so that they can see vision for them. That is Old Testament style and that was because people don’t have Holy Spirit in them then and could not communicate with God except through those who are called to one office or the other. This is because some people who are called by God for service do have Holy Spirit UPON them which is for service. God always equip priest, prophets, kings, and anyone chosen for an assignment for the task.
Therefore, people have to meet them so that they can help them to inquire from the Lord but not the same under new covenant.
The number one way through which God speaks and leads His people is found in Rom. 8:14, the bible says,
*For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.*
We need to note here that the bible did not say that as many their Pastors, prophets, teachers, bishops, apostles ... it is simply as many either new born or old born again that are led by the spirit of God, are the sons of God.
Note pls, God doesn’t put all these categories of people in church primarily for the purpose of leading His people (in daily communication and direction for their life). God gave us a new spirit at salvation and not corrupted spirit. Our spirit, which is the real person we are, is sanctified and pure just as God made it in the beginnings when He created Adam. God speaks to us primarily through our spirit where the Holy Ghost is dwelling after salvation.
When you became saved, the Holy Spirit came into your heart to have his territory there- Eph.3:16. Our own spirit is called the inward man. Notice in every places where spirit is used, when it starts with capital letter, it’s Holy Spirit that are referring to and small letter represents our own spirit man. God is a spirit and he deals with every believers through their spirit. God doesn’t talk to you through flesh neither can you know God by feelings. Feelings is the voice of the flesh just as conscience is the voice of your spirit.
Everyone that is born of God is a spirit according to John 3:6.
The reason why we have not enjoyed much of the leading of the spirit man is that we often think dreams and visions are more superior. Holy Spirit resides in our spirit man and since our spirit man is born again and pure, it knows what is right from what is wrong. It will lead us daily if only we obey.
You see, if only you can follow what your inner man is telling you daily, you will prosper and deal wisely in all affairs of life. Many people will say after committing an error that something is telling them not to do what they already did. To my understanding so far in my walk with the Lord, it is our spirit man that is picking signal from what Holy Spirit is saying but many people cannot understand that and they keep repeating same mistake repeatedly.
Man is a spirit, who has a soul and lives in a body. The spirit is the link between man and God. It is through the spirit that we contact he spiritual realm (God) because God is a Spirit and they that worship Him must approach in spirit and truth (John 4:24), we contact physical realm through our body (5 senses), and contact the intellectual realm through our Soul (Mind) .
In Prov.20:27, the bible says;
*The spirit of man is the candle of the lord, searching all the inward parts of the belly.*
The spirit of every born again is the channel through which God reach them. If your spirit man is renewed, it will lead you on daily basis. God doesn’t speak to your body nor soul but through your spirit. God lightens your spirit to give you illumination. Our spirit receives direction from the Holy Spirit and makes it known to our soul.
The voice of our spirit is CONSCIENCE. Your conscience will always be there to guide and direct your steps. When you are born again, your conscience will henceforth forbid you from getting away from sin without forgiveness. Your spirit begins to convict you of your wrong actions not the Holy Spirit. It will begin to remind and correct you on things to do and those not to do. For example, many of us regret after taking actions we have a caution or feelings we should not have taken. In that case, we always say something is telling me not to do that thing. Well, there is nothing like something that speaks, it can only be the voice of your spirit man. If only we can learn how to obey it daily, we will gradually begin to enjoy our work with God. If we promptly obey what our spirit instructs us to do, we won’t have reasons to be committing incessant errors
